I do like those wheels it had one but it looks better on the OEM ones, modified CLS's soon look a bit naff, not that it did, its just on very safe ground with original AMG ones.

Really lifts it being such an uncommon colour as well, mine was silver, as were 99,998 percent of them.
I did actually go to view a silver CLS 55 with red leather in Manchester, about half hour from Andy but it had been bumped on the front and repaired badly. Id seen this one on ebay and had to view it to put my mind at ease, as soon as we pulled up i was not leaving without it. Bought it, 50+ invoices later and here we are an about as immaculate CLS 55 AMG as you can get without being a museum piece.

I'll have to disagree with you there.

When I floored it up that hill in 2nd gear with the V8 noise bouncing off the stone walls either side of the road leaving your dad's car about half a mile behind - that's when you weren't leaving without it biggrin

Sorry, maintenance post alert...

B service carried out.

Full inspection with all undertrays off.
Genuine oil, filters , sump plug washers even down to the winterfit screenwash , and with using the factory tools a correct oil level.

Also made sure oil was drained from both drain plugs.

Not to mention a new star for the engine cover.. its the little things.

Nice touch with the new Star... what was the cost of that item? Are you sourcing parts during the lockdown? How's availability?

The new star is a centre cap star and the original mesh, as you cant actually buy the correct star, new cover and its dealer only. I’ve used locking wire to hold it down rather than bond it its a lot neater. So literally a few £ and a bit of time.

I ordered the parts just before all this began, but there are a few MB dealers across the country still open. Most of the service items are used on many other vehicles so MB still have good stock.

Great work I have to say I prefer (I'm probably in the minority) the aftermarket alloys they suit the car better & imo make it look fresher.

I do like them, however this car isn’t the car i want too modify too much. I think the owner at the time had a bit of stick about them so decided to go back to the original wheels.

I’ve managed to trace another owner and have a chat with him. He was the vendor who put it into anglia classic car auction.

He told me that actually the car was owned/registered by Mercedes when it was new as a press car etc.

He also sent a few pictures that he had.

Rocker cover gaskets & breather covers sealed... again...

This time using only genuine parts, even down to the sealer and breather cover bolts.

If a job is worth doing it’s worth doing right.

Boot badges refitted, yet another wash. TPMS now all coded out correctly. Just the wing “V8 Kompressor” badges left to do now!

After re fitting the original wing “V8 Kompressor” badges, another MOT, the sunroof safety recall and health check done with no advisories the car is ready for another year on the road. I can’t believe its been 13 months ive owned this car! No major faults to report. I still get exited every time I pick the keys up, and for me thats what its all about.

If I had that car I could look at it all day long. As for the noise they make when you fire them up......

Love the rims too - what are they? There's a fella running something similar on a CL500 on MBclub.

It sounds even better with an X pipe and C63 rear silencers. Cold start is just something else.

As for wheels they are the optional factory 19” AMG wheels. This one has had them from new according to a VIN de coder. They would have come with the 18” AMG wheels otherwise. The odd picture with the aftermarket wheels are 20” Vossen CVT’s. I found this out as I keep in touch with the last but one owner, he is still a keen petrolhead and AMG owner.

The CLS (specifically the 55) is in my fantasy garage for when the wife decides we need to move to the countryside and I get to buy a toy. To me, the 55K is one of those all-time great engines and I'd love to scratch that particular itch. The SL,S and CL's make me bit nervous. The E's great but I've had a couple of 500's. So it would have to be the CLS 55.

Yours looks great on those 19's and it must sound epic - they sound pretty amazing from the factory. Years ago I was a kids' rugby game and one of the dads had one. It was warm and all the windows were down. He stuck his arm in the open window, twisted the key and it barked into life then say there growling at me.

So much want.
