Honestly, it's epic. The noise gives you goosebumps. Colour scheme is very special too. The pull, the lowdown power is unreal.
Wheels - they are OEM and correct spec but not the original set as they were sold on when the Vossens were fitted then another set bought to replace them - hence TPMS not working when I had it.
One regret - I never recorded the noise!

Rocker cover gaskets & breather covers sealed... again...
This time using only genuine parts, even down to the sealer and breather cover bolts.
If a job is worth doing it’s worth doing right.
I’ve got the same engine and I’ve got an oil leak from this area. This time using only genuine parts, even down to the sealer and breather cover bolts.

Is this a straightforward job?

Yes straight forward if your handy with a socket set. The worst part is getting all the old sealer off the breather covers. Is this a straightforward job?
There are plenty of guides on the internet for doing this job.
Plus id only use the MB sealer, its expensive @ £30 a tube but all the other gasket sealer/RTV just doesnt last.

Im yet to record it, but I will not be letting it go until I have. As for the colour everybody comments on it. It really is one of those colours. The one that gets me the most Is “Is it a real AMG?” Wheels - they are OEM and correct spec but not the original set as they were sold on when the Vossens were fitted then another set bought to replace them - hence TPMS not working when I had it.

I suppose people have got used to all those AMG Line Premium Plus Plus Plus Plus 1.9 Four Pot Night Edition Murdered Out Diesel Dag Dags.
Unfortunately everything today is AMG line or M sport, S line etc and it definitely ruins the idea. I usually just say to people look at the absolutely massive stoppers crammed behind a 19” wheel. Would you see them on a c220d?? I bought my CLS55 new and still have it. It’s a 05 plate. It was originally used for my daily run to my local station for commuting. A journey long enough to get the liquids warm, but not so long to add a lot of mileage. I stopped commuting a few years back but the car has remained my local runner. Despite being lucky enough to have other more recent AMG models, including the latest 4WD E63S, I just love the CLS. Having just read the whole of this thread from start, I completely agree that this model is a fantastic mix of performance and sophistication. Our household has been lucky enough to have owned AMGs continuously for some twenty years now and so have witnessed their progressive transition from a family of relatively discrete Q cars to the more ostentatious mega brand the cars now personify. For me the 55 iteration represents the high point of an era. Massive torque. Having only 5 speeds doesn’t matter as you rely on the torque. And the original CLS incarnation is to my mind the most satisfactory as the body design is stunning (quite a gamechanger in hindsight) and the interior much classier than the equivalent age E.
Mine has always been MB serviced. I’ve had some of the age-related niggles mentioned by others, including parking sensors and Keyless go buttons on the door knob. I’ve only very recently had to change the rocker cover gaskets for the first time. And although I love its originality, I have very recently replaced the steering wheel gear change buttons with g paddles, and have changed the front grille with a discrete aftermarket one as I’ve always found the silver slatted grille the weakest point visually.
I’m afraid it’s black with a black interior, but this definitely reinforces its disguise as a Q car. COMAND is feeling somewhat old fashioned, but a modern iPhone loaded with TomTom Go can overcome this weakness.
I really enjoyed reading this thread and the affection that the designo CLS has generated, and couldn’t resist endorsing what a fabulous car this is. Who knows whether it will ever appreciate, but in a world which is rapidly turning away from the internal combustion engine, particularly large supercharged ones, I count myself as having been lucky enough to enjoy this car. And I don’t intend to sell ever.

This one one of the many reasons i wanted a large engined autobahn stormer before we are all rolling around in hybrid and electric cars. I agree with Andy, lets see some pics! Looks very clean. Agree with under-the-radar, they're just a much more classy shape compared to the newer stuff. Yours has 18" wheels, crazy that the maximum factory size on these was 19" - all the current AMG-effect tat is "rollin' on 20s" at least
Have you seen the split rim 19” wheels that were only available on the 55 with the performance pack? Now they are a rare set of wheels. There’s a set on ebay at the moment £2,250 with no tyres or valves. Id love a set of SLR turbines but they are like hen’s teeth and fetch about £5,000 its crazy the money wheels can cost. The optional 19s are hard enough to get un buckled or welded. I know because im looking for one! J4CKO said:

Looks like a designo car... look at the door cards and rear seats. Two tone black/beige definitely had the front seats changed, they look similar to W204 AMG seats. Strange..Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
