The little red LEDs might be the background lighting that comes on with the headlights, There are some next to the rear view mirror that shine down.
They're not very bright but all the BMWs I've had have had something similar.

Don’t remember seeing any red led stuff like that when I took the glovebox out to swap the cd-changer for the ipod kit. I am now somewhat intrigued - will have a look tomorrow when it’s light out.

Apart from that, I’d complain about that polishing work - he’s only gone & left a rag over one of the headlights... wink

Mine hasn't got them, but it's a 645 rather than the M6. They do look a aftermarket and I'd expect BMW lighting to be similar to the white lights.

I agree. I think they must be aftermarket. BMW would never allow an overlap like the one evident on the right hand lug where it overlaps onto the footwell light.

I guess the only question now is what was their purpose. It would explain the lack of bulbs in the original lights. I’ll remove one and see how it’s powered and connected.

Great cars, but a bit too large and lardy for my liking!

This looks like a better place to put a V10!

beautiful car OP. I backed out of buying one of these a few years back as it was a bit bulkier than what I was looking for - but I've honestly regretted it ever since!

I agree that the Z4 makes for an excellent platform but I also feel it’s already beautifully matched chassis to engine in the Z4M guise. My mother drives one and it’s a superb car. That said, if the engine were to let go in the Z4 and the body were to suffer a significant rust issue in the M6 then a mating of the salvageable components could occur. wink

I'm wondering if the unknown lights under the dash could be infrared? What could the reason be for that?

So you could see your feet while driving using night vision goggles?

I think they’re probably just red footlights....

I thought that but there's genuinely no brightess to them at all. They're literally one small diode and the output appears really low. I'll take one off this evening to take a proper look.

Have you tried them in the dark? Some unmarked police cars have dim red leds fitted for an interior map light that doesn't ruin night vision. I don't think many forces would run a V10 coupe though hehe

The car belonged to a Russian who lived in London. Would the KGB run a V10? laugh

I'll try the dark thing and will see.

Your mother drives a Z4M?? What a woman!

Obviously your exquisite choice of cars is hereditary!

Lovely looking car that OP. I actually looked into buying a V10 M6 as I still love how these look and the engines are awesome.

My only real worry was the SMG box as I'd heard of costly things needing to be done but that was my only worry.

I actually ended up with a very low mileage CLS63 that was extremely well cared for so opted for that. Still have a soft spot for this 6 series though.

We are very much a petrol loving family!

My grandmother had;

205 GTi 1.6
205 GTi 1.9
Subaru Impreza Turbo Wagon (at 70 years old! She wanted some 'overtaking oomph'! This later became my track car)
and her current ride now that she's nearly 90 is an Audi A3 Sportback Quattro

My mother bought both of the 205's from my Gran and then had a Honda Civic Vti hatch (EG model) an Audi A3 1.8T and now the Z4M Roadster which she has had from new and now has a hefty late 30k miles on it laugh

Thanks Alex!

Actually I think the box isn't the worry as such but the clutch may be. This one had it done a year ago so that's off my list of concerns. Otherwise I think they're quite well screwed together. A warranty is just a sensible thing to have.

I know the CLS63 very well as one was a serious contender for me too. Do you have the power pack and the rear diff? Always wondered if the rear diff made a difference in the real world as the traction control is so good on those i would imagine the average user wouldn't be able to tell the difference!

Bad move, you'd be shocked how they shrink around you and bely their size.

I went out and checked these unidentified lights and unscrewed the passenger one from its position. It has been fitted cleanly and used an existing hole for the wiring.

But there don’t appear to be any identifying marks or logos on them to help

So that’s that for the moment!
