What a gorgeous car with a brilliant spec. A proper machine. Kudos to the previous owner who retrofitted cruise control: that's a real hallmark of a nutcase. I was only a boy when these were current but I have always thought they are a very, very handsome car. I understand the build quality is the best BMW ever came up with and a cut above the Merc 124? And what are those new wheels? I haven't seen those before, they look interesting.

Another awesome old BMW thread! This would be an excellent daily for sure. I had a very similar E32 735i with the same engine/trans setup and it was a fantastic daily, the only issue being fuel consumption!

Having owned both, the W124 and e34 trade blows on the quality and integrity front. I think I’ll call honours even.

The wheels are style 3’s. optional wheel but rare on a 34, more common on the e32.
I always thought the Style 3’s centre faces were concave, as opposed to the flat centre faces of these wheels. Was it this style of wheel that was most commonly fitted to 4wd variants of the E34?

They are concave chap, not flat. It's not the best photo to be honest!
Ah. If possible, can I have custard with my humble pie?

Watching this with interest; friends’ parents had these when I was younger and I greatly enjoyed my E36 (2.8 & 3.2) years a couple of years ago.

The vibration comes from the rear of the car for a 5mph zone around 70-75mph and appears from the rear of the car, and is generally older rear tyres that have flattened and hardened with age.
This was the case with my E46 328ci that spent some time off of the road. Rear tyres were from 2006! New boots have transformed it.

Lovely car OP. My dad had one for just over 10 years. He got it when it was a year old. His was a black sport (M-sport?) model with a body kit and very oddly sized metric tyres. It never missed a beat in about 120k miles. I remember the occasional drives when i was young and how well it went. The only downside seemed to be that it never did better than 18mpg. Hope you enjoy it.

Beautifully built and very classy car indeed. Really like the fact that this era of BMW are not overly complicated with technology and have such a solid feel to them. Watching this one with interest!

I worked with a chap in the late 1990s who had one of these which was a basic spec, I think it was a 518i. I was a passenger in it a bit and, being the most basic spec, I expected it to be horrible. However, in my view the quality of the design and construction just shone through. It was a world above the large cars made by more mainstream manufacturers because of what it fundamentally embodied: really thoughtful, high quality engineering. I would love a good one.

Great to see some E34 love on here.

The best car I have ever owned was a 1995 530iSE with a manual gearbox in black with full sports interior. We did a boys trip to Le Mans in it and I used it daily for about a year or so. The V8 was a brilliant engine and it was such a solid well built old smoker. Sold it on eBay to an Irish guy who flew over from Dublin and it was last seen doing number 11's up my street and about 3 months later I had the Irish police contact me asking about the car!! Bit of a shame but I guess it ended its days doing bank jobs or something!

That looks cool. Were those alloys an option 'back in the day' ? They look quite unusual.

I have an E39 523 but I still have a soft spot for the E34.

My first BMW was an E34 520i then in between I had a couple of E46 3 series and then an E34 530i (V8)

The E34 mostly missed though is this one: (525i Sport)

This was part exchanged against a MK4 Golf GTi but hey....

OP, where did you source the car from?

Sorry if you have already explained this and I've missed it.

These have aged so well. I kind of wish I had one when you could pick up a decent one for £2kish.
