After nearly 3.5 years and around 55k miles I’ve done my last service on the 330d. Insp 2 with a new crankcase breather.
I changed the turbo too for a brand new Garrett as the old one had a whine when cold. That was a fun job in 23 degs heat!
I have two people interested in buying it so will see what comes of it.
It’s funny starting a new project-there’s not a single oil leak on the 330d’s engine at 172k, whereas my 335 at 95k has two!
I’ll miss it. Here’s a hint of the history it has:
1st owner saved the Autocar review and marked off the options he wanted in the price list.

It’s gone after 3.5 years and 46k miles with me. I will still see it as sold it to friend. I described it as “trigger’s broom”. The engine and springs are original, but they are about the original mechanical parts left. I found the original sale receipt, £26,665. I sold it for three times what I paid for it, (I was the second owner) which isn’t bad. I could have got more on the open market but I’m not a fan of strangers pointing out faults on a 19 year old car and demanding a discount.

The replacement has its own thread and more oil leaks and less torque! It is slightly faster though. The new project has begun.

I saw the old beast today. Now on 188k miles. Has needed a new front wheel bearing for the new owner and one rear tyre. It does eat rear tyres.
It has one new fault which I couldn’t fix. The heater control panel is dead. All fuses are ok, a new ignition switch and control panel didn’t fix it. I’ve sent the new owner off to the local specialist to fix it. I’ll see it for an oil change in the new year. Showing 43mpg indicated-compared to “more modern and more efficient” 335d at 28!
