It does have manual mode but the delay from when you click for next gear and timing it to perfection is extremely hard especially when you're doing 10 second 1/4 mile passes. The ZF8 is a very stout gearbox but manual mode isn't its strongest point. Plus, I don't want to shift at 7k RPM, 6,500 should be the sweet spot.

yes these things can take a bit of getting used to. The auto in the E63 is slow to react on the paddles so if you go flat out in 1st / 2nd you need to be asking for the next gear around 4k rpm so it doesn't smack into the limiter
