Just signed up to comment on this thread.

Small world I almost bought that car new in 2001!

She was known as the Jewel of the Guy salmon dealership. smile

A fully loaded Vogue was a rare sight!

Most of the Range rovers there were nice but she stood out.

i believe she was a run out model so all the latest tech had been crammed into her.

Also With her rare and beautiful Monte Carlo Blue coachwork she did stand out against the crowd of dull colours that graced the forecourt

Only a handful were painted in that colour which i think was a great shame as the shape of the car suited the colour perfectly!

also if i remember correctly she also had side steps and roof bars

Unfortunately like a fool I went off and bought an Early L322 and i still regret it.. wink

It was full of issues from the start.

Great to see she's still around.

Just to add to this "blog"

Had the front seat out, to remove the cooked BeCM.

Opened the BeCM and found a burnt track, my fault really as i accidentally put a 30amp fuse in a 10amp fuse slot.

It has to be reconditioned eventually wink

Well...

It's been a while since I updated this 'fred.

So why not now?

To put ya'll out of your misery she is fixed,ish..

Works ok thanks to a forum member on LZ who replaced the Faulty bits.

She is now currently coming back together, but I thought best to start at the beginning instead of jumping directly to the present,,

Ok..

I bought this..

Need not worry though she was just to tide me over..

until I got this for free.

Then I suddenly decided that I needed to fix the P38 so i can have 3 unreliable cars to look after, the TD5 D2 is Brill BTW.

Anyway...

As you do I was ripping this thing apart to find the fault/short that caused the ECU explosion..

The DSP AMP for the HK system was last on my list, and thank the car gods I checked it, looks a tad crispy.

I've never been so excited about something being burnt out in my life, so to confirm I got a tad trigger happy and ripped the AMP apart.

And hazzah!

Once that was removed and the plug taped up, the computer fixed etc

She sprung into life!!

Now..

Next update coming in 3-2-1.. etc lol

Interior juices...

Are not pleasant, i'm not going to go down the seat replacement like D4MJT but I did clean the 19yrs of gunge and what have you off the seat(s)

Little did i know that Lightstone is a relatively white colour - not a creamy brown!! yuck!

Anyway, after a good scrubbing and rubbing and wire brushing and vomiting., we have this..

And my P38 is the super rare 6 seater model smilewink

The same went for the rear seats

And anyone who has had the pleasure of a LR of any description is familiar with a saggy headliner..

Saggier than a withes labia.

So i shamefully glued it back up "temporary" mind you.

Just to let everyone know, this stuff it shyte,.

But it did help glue my spare tyre cover back together, as the carpet had peeled off, another p38 foible.

And during!

Done.

The carpet like the seats was mank..

So as per usual i gave it a rub with some Autoglym interior cleaner, also hoovered the whole car.

Yeck.

And after.

Smells much fresher!

And then I played with my Knob(s)

A tad scuffed from years of use so i raided the shoe care box and came up with some shoe scuff shizzle which seemed to do the trick!

  1. Excuse the dust!

Much better!

Next installment.

I finally got the seat in and the cumspewter..

Then I put a new draft thingy in the door and refitted the door card..

Also the wood was wiped down..

Also added an air freshner!

Look at that walnut shine!

Anyway later that day I took her for a spin around the farm lanes.

She said hello to the sheeps. wink

I've also got the economy that all P38 owners are use to seeing!

I think thats a new record. .

And as per usual I shined her up good and proper!

The exterior trim was also treated with trim care and the chrome was polished up!

Did the bumper too! wink

So she's getting there wink

Great project, I could see myself doing stuff like this when my lottery win comes through...
Have you thought about getting a gliptone kit to repair the leather cracks and creases? They have a colour matching service that requires something like a headrest to be sent through for them to match to, if they don’t already have the upholstery colour mix on file.

It’s what I did in mine and it knocked 10 years of use out of the seats pretty convincingly.

Good to hear. Have a hairdryer handy when you apply the colouring. It also helps to do it when the seats are warm in general.
I used dish sponges with the green scourer portion sliced off to apply it to my seats. You can cut them in to different shapes and sizes to get in to different places.

I used a dabbing technique rather thana brushing or spreading motion for the most part, it seemed to give me more control over how I built the colouring up. The only time I wiped it on was to go perpendicular to a large crease to make sure I got it in to the base leather.
Having some decent quality masking tape with strong adhesive is a good idea too, masking the stitching up gives a much better finished product. It’s worth cleaning the stitching properly first otherwise the shiny new leather makes it look worse.

1) Have you managed to insure it yet?

2) Is the LPG working?

3) Tell me more about this 6-seat option...

I used autoglym upholstery cleaner and a stiff shoe brush..

A tad rough imo but this leather was caked in so much gunk that is was necessary!

Thanks, I have a LR D3 and the leather has a lot of ingrained dirt..... though not vomit inducing levels !!
