Cheers but I want a 5 door and I live nowhere near Edinburgh. And I'm not on Facebook.

I'll have a check soon but I'll hopefully be getting my confirmed build date in the next week or so.

I ended up bailing after waiting 5 months for a Golf GTE....VW are terrible and honestly wouldn't consider trying to buy another unless they had a car built to my spec.

Could be a while, make yourself at home.

VW Live chat said:
Josh: Thank you for your patience. It appears that your build week has been temporarily removed. This may be that the factory is looking to apply a different build week to the vehicle. In this case, I would recommend contacting your selling Volkswagen Retailer and they will be able to look into your order in more detail for you and see why the build week has been removed. I apologise for the inconvenience.

Put the kettle on then rolleyes

Honestly though, I've never bought a new car but seems crazy that they don't seem to be even remotely ready to fulfill orders before taking them. I understand that a lot of people like to personalise their cars these days, and hence they can't be on the shelf and ready to go, but surely they could have the majority built and then 'add' in the bespoke options.

Sure their is much more to it than that of course… but 8 month+ lead times really isn't acceptable.

The emissions testing has hit them hard, as well as a larger percentage than expected swing to petrol for a lot of cars that have histroically been very high sellers as dervs (can't remember the last time I saw a TDI new Tiguan!), plus a completetly unexpected demand for the up! GTI...

I wouldn’t worry too much about that, my order also has no status. I’ve been led to believe the Bratislava plant is closed for a further week, then the orders should be getting build weeks assigned again. Lots of people are in the same boat.

Went in to a Dealer to look at an UP! GTI and the conversation with the salesman went like this.

Im interested in an Up Gti? you wont get one its 52 weeks lead time.

Have you got one here? yes its in the car park round the back help yourself.

Anyway it was locked so didn't even bother going and asking for the keys. Went straight to the Fiat garage down the road and bought an Abarth 595 Turismo.

I’d be interested to see a thread on the Abarth, they look great but I need the 5 doors.

It’s becoming clear that VW have built a great car and then made a mess of handling the demand for it. I’m going to chase again for a build date.

I’d have tried a different dealer. Sure VW are struggling to get them out, but there does seem to be dealers quoting reasonable lead times. Oh, and did you read this?

I think the next week or two is going to see a lot of movement. And at the end of the day, it’s not so much been handling demand of the Up GTI, it’s been dealing with the whole WLTP situation. There was a chap on another there saying he’d ordered a Golf last November and still didn’t have it!

I was told by my dealer that the build week was confirmed as 24th of September but I became sceptical of that when the app or website didn't confirm it. Live chat told me that the build week was still unconfirmed.

Just had an email today saying that the status has changed. I logged onto the app and it's saying that the build week is confirmed as 5/11/2018.

More tea anyone?

Worst readers cars thread ever. Four pages and over seven months, and still no car!

VW is now short for vapourware.

Hope you get the car this year OP, and that it's worth the wait!

Reading things like this makes me wonder how VAG actually sell any cars. Looking at the leasing thread, it appears that if you lease any VAG car you can expect to wait six months for delivery.

I can only assume that they sell so many cars and demand is so high that if you want one you have to wait.

Just checking the thread you ordered the car on the 17th February, assuming it is built when they now estimate it will be at least 10 months from ordering before you actually get the car?

I don't know how you have the patience, I would have bought something else a long time ago.

The long and short of it is at the moment, they don't sell very many.

Sorry, I'll try harder next time laugh

It simply boils down to the case that I don't need to replace my current car and I haven't found anything else that I want.

I know it's a shambles but if I cancel, the dealer just flips the car for a profit. If I re-order, I don't get the £500 deposit contribution.

From what I can remember from the test drive, it'll be worth the wait. It should be even quicker as a combination of eating well and running will have improved the power-to-weight ratio by 2 stone since February.
