I was told by my dealer that the build week was confirmed as 24th of September but I became sceptical of that when the app or website didn't confirm it. Live chat told me that the build week was still unconfirmed.

Just had an email today saying that the status has changed. I logged onto the app and it's saying that the build week is confirmed as 5/11/2018.
My build date is also 5/11/2018, and has been for 6 weeks now. Eagerly awaiting confirmation. Like you, the GTI isn't replacing anything so I've just been going through the motions of waiting longer than any sane person would!

The long and short of it is at the moment, they don't sell very many.
Down 30% on this time last year across the whole VAG group, according to SMMT

How much can we read in to this though? Surely SMMT records registrations, not sales. VW might be selling loads of cars, but at the moment they're failing to get them to customers.

Well... they're taking deposits, but for various reasons they're not getting cars to customers at any sort of pace. Our local dealer mentioned he personally would hand over 30 cars in September... this year he had 4.

So now there's an empty "your new car?" space in the dealership? How fitting! 😄

Seriously though, I'll be interested to see what you all make of your new wheels.

Any former RS Twingo/Clio, Panda 100hp or Swift Sport owners expecting one of these?

Yup, current Panda 100HP owner, which will be retired and the running gear put into a Yugo once my up! GTI arrives.

With daughters just about to learn to drive, I was toying with the idea of an Up! GTI to replace my Fiesta ST, but.... A local tuning company recently remapped a 90hp / 160Nm Up! to put out 136hp / 222 Nm, so maybe I won't need to spend the extra for some funky seats and wheels?

I'll give you an update, 1 week in, 250miles and at 7.30 am this morning on my way to work I find a note on the windscreen, "sorry I've hit your car" and three panels scratched on the nearside. She left her number.

Ffffffffffffffffffff

Annoying, but at least a note was left.

Good luck with the car going forward.

This seems to be happening a lot, which suggests they've got their act together! My confirmed build date going off the app is w/c 12th, but dealer says it is next week. I'm hopeful that it's all going to go through nice and quickly from now on in.
