The cup holder did actually slide past!

Funnily enough, I was surprised at how well this works. Shows up E39 cup holders, although that isn’t hard!

I’ve changed the thermostat and coolant. Looks like there was just water in there...

Anyone know where the gauge is supposed to sit in these? Still can’t get it to reach the natural half way point. I know some cars don’t, but still...

I’ve ordered a new coolant temperature sensor for the sake of a fiver. Will fit that and see.

I've got to replace the rear axle bushes for the next MOT which looks like a pig of a job though....
Pedro -I can recommend buying the tool from eBay for it. Made a pig of a job an absolute breeze. Worth the £25 or whatever it was at the time

Forgot to mention, I picked up a working jack and spare wheel. A bit of security when away. Did a trip to Leicester this week, she was going well.

A quick update of the costs.

Assuming it sold for the price paid, going okay. Something went wrong with the dates, should be Feb and March '18. Would never normally pay that for a battery, but it was the 11th hour and it included fitting.

Mine just sailed through its taxi test (six monthly enhanced MOT) 204K and just had an oil and filter.
Natural home for the temp needle is just below half in mine. Best £1500 ever back in 2009ish

I have no idea what BMW were thinking with those cupholders in the E39, they couldn't hold a bloody weeble upright never mind a piping hot cup of coffee...

...Their worst design flaw was siting them right in front of the climate sensors, if you ever parked up with a Maccy D's milkshake in the cup holder, the car would try to boil you alive as the shake made the car think it was freezing.

Thanks for info on temperature. Thermostat was probably alright. Still, at least there is some antifreeze in there now.

My cup holders were broken in the E39, so didn’t experience the coffee issue! They are good in the E91, though.

Very nice! Identical to my 1.9DCI 2001 'Expression' (expression of what I'm not too sure...). Same colour, nice to see what mine will look like when I eventually wash it!

Bought for £150 in November, straight pass in January on the MOT! Needs a few bits sorting now, but nothing too major. Takes me to work and back in relative comfort and so far 100% (touch wood) reliability at 53mpg.

I came froma 2005 Ph2 Initiale Laguna 2, and this one scares me much less than it did (auto lights, auto wipers, auto handbrake etc). Plus, because I was breaking the old one for spares then scrapping the remains I could swap EVERY little broken bit of trim out, failed bulbs, swap the steels with bald tyres for the alloys with decent tyres on etc.

So confident was I that I even gave it a service, and it's not broken yet! Mine has a vacuum leak somewhere though, front steering rods need doing and the air con radiator is rotting out but still holding gas (but who needs air con on a £150 shed), and one exhaust rubber is broken and being held up with wire.

I don't think they truly deserve the rep they have, especially now at the prices they are. At this age, the fact that it still runs and drives means it's probably OK, and is a bin it job if the clutch goes. Plus theres oodles of info out there, join the Renault Laguna Owners Club on facebook, I use that more than the HBOL that came with the car!

Problem is, if the clutch goes on this, I think I'd have it done rotate

I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised... but I’m always hopeful there are people who care about cars (any car), out there.

Changed the spark plugs. 3 different brands fitted at the same time. Four spark plugs cost me about £10. Can you tell which was near the oil filler?

And changed the old CTS for good measure.

It definitely starts quicker now. Performance increase to be confirmed.

I'm back, again.

The car has been treating me well, I've just had a couple of days around the country roads of North Yorkshire. Delightful.

I'm thinking that treating the car on a regular basis will please the shed gods.

Look at this pollen filter.

Nasty. Air filter wasn't too bad.

I'm still impressed with how easy this car is to work on. The coolant and thermostat was so easy compared to the BMW, for instance.

I've ordered a few more parts, no doubt an update soon.

looks like she's running well - i find it really satisfying to see neglected cars bought back up to scratch! No doubt it's much better to drive now than when you bought it!

Indeed.

The costs are not difficult to justify. Second oil filter, delivered to my door, cost £2.72. Bargain.

Top shedding. I had an estate as a company car in 2003, which replaced a 2000 Saab 93 Turbo cabriolet (3rd child etc) and it didn't disappoint.

I think they've aged really well, and the rare coupe looks ace.

2,000 mile update - all is well.

I took the car from Lincs down to Surrey today (and back), 7.5 hours in the car and 40 MPG. It is a little small for me, but I can't complain at the price.

I need to get the tyres fitted that I've bought (4 x new 225 45 17 for £132.95, delivered). Bargain.

I don't mind doing the work to a car if I don't feel it is fighting me all the way.

Sounds like the Laguna is happy to be fettled smile

Going well. Keep up the good work.

Enjoying the updates. Does make me feel like I'm spending far to much on my shed though.

Another update.

I replaced the resonator as it fell apart when I first took it off. There is a horrible boomy note when accelerating without it, as well as it pulling in air from the back of the engine. It is a bit of a rubbish design and not in keeping with the ease of use when working around the rest of the engine bay. Blue writing removed with some nail polish remover, shortly after!

I took a look at the non-operational NSF window. I was greeted with a lovely piece of timber and some knackered cables. I had a bash with a £6 fixing kit, but it defeated me at the last step, so I've ordered a whole regulator (£14!).

Because of that defeat, I treated the car to a quick headlight restore and used some epoxy to stick a door seal back that looks like it had been incorrectly installed from the factory. Nice use of a child's broom to aid it setting whilst ambient temperatures are still low.

I'm off on a trip to Essex/Watford/Surrey tomorrow, with quiet induction noise (yay!), but no nearside door panel (nay).

Back so soon? Yes, I am. Because this shed is being treated like (relative) royalty.

After a successful trip around the M25 and it generally performing as I need, the car has had some further work.

It has had the four of eBay's finest 17" tyres fitted.

The garage commented that the tracking was perfect, an absolute treat and extremely rare! To be fair, tyre wear has been even and it drives well (and I didn't ask for the tracking to be checked...).

Next up was that window. The £14 regulator was significantly easier than the 6 quid fixing kit, it was almost a pleasure.

It is all back together and now allows me to ask for directions from the nearside.

As the undertray still hasn't had its bolts ground off to allow me to get to the sump plug, I used a rubbish pump to do a second oil change, as last time it wasn't a full change. It went better this time, as the car was level and not on ramps.

The car is whisking me away to Manchester and Devon this week, giving me a chance to appreciate the 8mm tread depth and electrically operated window goodness.

Thoroughly enjoying the updates - keep them coming! I said this on a Mondeo thread, but I love a good shed thread.
