Projects such as this one, always go through that "why am I doing this" thought pattern.

It seams the engine mounts are the lynchpin of the equation.
I hope once they are done it gives you the motivation to get this running\driving.
That will be another big stepping stone in the project.

All the best with it. smile
This is the first project I’ve done where there isn’t an off the shelf solution for engine mounts and unfortunately it’s been the stumbling block for the whole project. It won’t stop me from doing similar in the future though. I’ll just have to learn how to weld at some point!

Lupo front end?

Just saying.
Externally the van is going to stay as standard looking as possible. Apart from the fact it’s going to be lower than standard with slightly wider wheels there shouldn’t be anything externally that gives the game away.

Spent a little more time on the interior today. I got the centre console secured down properly, fitted the handbrake lever gaiter, gear lever gaiter and found an old Momo gearknob to chuck on there for now. I also refitted the instrument cluster and then the steering wheel.

It’s not much but it’s suddenly made the pile of bits in the footwell much smaller and the interior actually looks like an interior again smile

sammo you can get custom mounts of ebay for what your doing, im looking at putting the 1.8t in my mk2 caddy but cant get a decent spec list because everyone uses all different staff driving me mad some say i need custom mounts other say i dont then iv red this

Use the MK4 20v AGU engine & gearbox with the following

engine & gearbox mounts & driveshafts from:

MK2 Caddy TDI
SEAT ibiza TDI or 16v or 20v
Corrado 16v
MK3 Golf TDI
Passat B4 16V or TD

Acc pedal:

MK2 Caddy with engine code 1Y
Any petrol 6k Ibiza

thats it, you can even use the 20vt fuel pump in the caddy tank

wink

Today was a day of tidying up and getting the van ready to go and have it’s engine mounts made smile

I started off with clearing all the crap out of the back that I’ve been hoarding in there for the last couple of years. Once I’d cleared it out and thrown a lot of stuff away I refilled the back with the remaining parts of the van smile This should make things much easier when it comes back!

Once that was done I needed to get the engine back onto the support bar so the van can be moved. I then removed any nuts and bolts I had resting in the engine bay!

Last but not least I have the cabin a clean smile It’s been full of interior bits, screws, rubbish, foam, more rubbish and all sorts of other things for as long as I can remember! I cleared everything out, threw away some more bits that weren’t needed and then gave it a much needed hoover. The last thing to do before packing up for the day was to put my vast array of engine mounts inside for the fabricator to take inspiration from haha!

That’s it for today. The van is being collected on Wednesday and I expect to have it back by the weekend smile Although I’m working next weekend so nothing will be happening then anyway.

Just to say another lurker here watching and hoping for updates! - how you manage to do it with a little one about, I do not know, I struggle to find the time to wash the car, never mind stick the winters on, never mind change an engine etc!

Thumbs up to 996Keef for that offer!

I only have my Daughter on the weekends so I can do little bits after work in the evenings (when I’m not out Marathon training) and then on the weekends I’ll tend to take her out earlier in the day so that she’s knackered by the afternoon and just wants to sit and watch rubbish on her iPad. Seems to work haha.

The only problem is that sometimes I’m knackered by the afternoon as well haha. Then we both end up sat on the sofa!

Another fan of this thread here, glad to see you're still on with it and I look forward to more updates! It will be nice to have a different engine to the usual conversions despite some of the headaches!

Plenty of headaches going on that’s for sure!

I’ve been following your Corrado as well. Always wanted one but never got round to owning one.

We have another update.

The van has gone to have its engine mounts made smile It was collected at about 10am this morning and off it went smile We had a slight issue getting it off the driveway (which turned out to be a flat rear tyre!) but apart from that it rolled out fine. I should have it back in a couple of days and then the fun begins!

Happy days, OP! Hope the mounts work out and you can crack on with this; I’ve enjoyed following the build so far. It’s going to sound fantastic!

A quick update just to say, the engine mounts haven’t been started yet. I’ve told the guy not to rush and make sure he takes some photos that I can show you lot smile
