Quick question, my steering wheel has this set up. Does anyone know what the one under R/T does? I can't find anything in the user manual for the steering wheel!
.
Does anyone have any ideas?
We had the 2007 X3 3.0sd with the same wheel, never figured that out, never figured out the one below either, assumed it was voice command but it did nothing, for the hands free maybe? .
Does anyone have any ideas?

The R/T (radio/telephone) and voice comms button are for cars with bluetooth built in. R/T switches between radio and phone, the voice comms button is for telephone voice commands. Ie "dial *phone number*.
Unless you have Bluetooth functionality in the car, the buttons are useless.

Quite glad the question was raised! I've had an E46 shed (on schedule to tick over to 175,000 this week, coincidentally) for the past year - and have been forever bugged by the function of those two buttons, but have never actually remembered to do any research.

Seems pointless them being on the steering wheel then ha. Had a quick look and don't think mine has bluetooth. Not that I'm popular enough to get any phone calls...
If you have a little phone tray and a pairing button on the centre console under the armrest you will have bluetooth Expensive to retrofit and problematic anyway with anything other than iPhones.
If your car is a 184 manual it won’t have swirl flaps. The steering wheel buttons are for the phone. R/t switches between phone and radio. The face one picks up/puts down the phone.
The buttons work on my 330 with an ancient Nokia hands free kit.
Good choice of car.
Diesels are less prone to radiators bowing as the intercooler sits beneath the rad and supports it. They do sometimes leak at the seams still, my old 250k 330d rad (original) had just started to weep.

We had it in ours, never used it, didn't know we had it until we cleaned it ready to be traded in at BMW, don't imagine a 2007 mic would be too good for phone calls anyway. Expensive to retrofit and problematic anyway with anything other than iPhones.

Short guide I did for fitting bluetooth to my E46 330ci if you decide to do when you take head unit out to fit Aux in. I did it at same time put aux in connector in flat bit next to ashtray.

Edit to add, parrot controller in glove box( not needed once setup), steering buttons work. Voice commands can be programmed into parrot but if you've got an android phone can use voice phone voice commands

I've covered around 250 miles so far and loving it still. It could do with a bit of a clean. Worked out where my AUX will end up, little place for it by the handbrake. Removed some of the trim fairly easily, but waiting in some bits to arrive today to remove the rest without breaking anything!
My girlfriend isn't too keen on it as I'm now a BMW wker...before I was just a wker ha.

So the AUX didn't work...bit annoyed!
It also needs a airbag recall that hasn't been done yet. BMW tried to sell me all sorts with it . Downside is they need it for the whole day, so not sure when I can get that sorted as I'm guessing they won't give me a replacement ha.

Sounds like an incompetent dealer. Drivers airbag takes seconds to remove, passengers minutes. Total time for both with an incompetent technician would be 1 hr.
Everything I've read online is that it takes a hour, maybe 90 minutes at the most. I'm guessing as I'm not a paying customer they aren't bothered to do it quickly...eezeh said:
Post a picture of the sticker on the underside of the radio, I can tell you if it's compatible with Aux input or if its the cable.
I'm trying to find one of the rare alpine units compatible with Aux.
Thanks, I'll do it shortly.I'm trying to find one of the rare alpine units compatible with Aux.
