Mystery solved on my random wheel purchase:

Guy swore they were special M6 motorsport wheels that were wider than standard M6 167 wheels.

I googled a few things and nothing turned up so decided he didn’t know what he was on, but bought them anyway for £700.

They arrive and he’s right - definitely genuine oem, but fronts are 10j and rears 11j both bigger than they should be?

Bit more googling and it turn out they’re rare M6 competition wheels which were forged and wider than normal M6 167

Offsets are even more aggressive so be interesting to see if they fit the touring but bit of result I reckon for £700

See if I can try them on some time this week

Great set of wheels!

If you find that they do not fit and become surplus to requirements then I would be interested in taking them off your hands. I'm going to go up a size on tyre width on my M6 and was just going to do it on the standard wheels but if a set of the comp pack wheels were available then it would make sense to use those.

All the best with the M5 T anyway, it's absolutely stunning!

Thanks - gonna try them sometime this week but if they don't fit (its the rears on a touring that get a bit tight!) i'll give you a shout!

To Hijack the thread completely...

If the competition set do go on & James doesn’t want your originals, I’d be interested in taking them off your hands. Or...

James B, if you’re going to buy these, can I buy your original set from you? laugh

I’d love a set at competition size, but would settle for ordinary size. I want them for my winter set, as I’ve just swapped tyres over this weekend gone, to the summer MPS4S in oem size. No feedback yet, only done 10 miles back from the fitter.

Mr Touring,

Thanks, that would be great. I'll wish you luck with fitting (but with my fingers crossed behind my back! wink )

Prinny,

Yes, If the Comp pack wheels were to come my way then I'd sell you the regular set.

Mr Touring,

Sorry, I feel I should offer you first dibs on a wheel swap with me if the Comp pack wheels don't fit your car. Clearly you were looking to fit the 5 spoke wheels to the car so you may still want to achieve the look. Mine were freshly refurbished before I bought the car so are perfect.

I'm having trouble with the misses as apparently I already have wheels on my car - so to be honest if they don't fit or don't look absolutely spot on ill be 'moving' them on!

Ill keep you posted!

I've had issues like that too. I once tried to turn the conversation around with her shoes. Well...it appears that shoes and wheels (despite costing a similar amount!!!) are entirely different things and the fact she has many many pairs already makes no difference to the fact she 'needs' more. My car had wheels that were round and looked fine. She didn't understand that the new ones would weigh less. I daren't even go near a weight topic.....

I know that feeling! laugh Though I did win the shoe argument by buying a pair of cowboy boots in Vegas a few years ago. getmecoat Still in trouble for that one!

At the end of the day, I’m johnny-come-lately here. Once you’re both resolved to your satisfaction, if there’s anything left over for me, I’ll be grateful.

Mr Touring,

I was doing a little checking online and spotted this thread. Not sure if you have come across it but it goes some way to explain the differences between the E61 rear wheel/tyre and the E60/63/64. I never realised there was a difference at all!

Very useful thanks!

Its really confusing and the competition rears are even worse as the offset is 6! They will be 18mm closer to the centre of the car so I will definitely need spacers

I think its just gonna be a suck it and see!

Yeah you're probably going to want a 20mm hubcentric spacer on there to get back to a normalish look and then a little more if you want to achieve the look you currently have.

I know! Not keen on anything over 20mm to be honest

They’ll definitely fit without tyres! Handling, Acceleration & Braking might be somewhat more entertaining too. scratchchin

Best of luck, & pictures, please.

Top marks for the boot organisation!!

All the best today. I hope it’s more successful than my evening was last night. Did my sister in law a favour by changing her brakes and pads all round on her 07 plate Cooper S. Fronts were fine, NSR rear caliper was seized solid though. Aargh!

They’re going to look magnificent but it’s going to very very tight - need to stick tyres on to see what’s actually happening

I agree, that’s going to be tight! But the 5-spokes look far nicer in my (biased) opinion.

As much as I recommend PS4S’s, they’re a ‘fat’ tyre, and it might cause you problems under load if you go above the std 275 width, looking at that picture. Is it possible to roll the arch lips? Might get you that extra couple of mm, & make all the difference.

Oooft! They are a very good looking wheel on the wagon!

I really hope the tyre works for you. In all seriousness. It makes little difference to me as the tyres I want still fit the rims I have I’ll just fit spacers to allow for the arch filling I want.

If they don’t work then I can still take them, saves me spacers costs. #manmaths
