Well hello - what’s this what’s turned up……

Lovely mate. But when are you getting rid of the black wheels?
You need to start a silver wheel club!

I think the hint is the blue M3 in the photo above.

Lovely, looking forward to hearing more about this. Is it intended to be a daily that can be taken on track?

Good stuff, big fan of these and it’s still an itch that I’d I like to scratch at some point.

I loved your megane, maybe a touch hardcore as a daily I must admit. It will be interesting to see how the m3 compares, I'm tempted by one as a daily myself.

So, replacement time.

Criteria was:
1. More comfy than Megane
2. Auto or semi auto for commute
3. NA
4. Trackable
5. Epic engine

Having then spent a week behind @rolspole’s gorgeous e46 M3 in estriol blue that seemed the obvious choice - especially as I have never had an M3. However two things put me off: SMG and the fact it felt a bit too close to the MCoupe in age, noise and feel.

At that point I moved on a generation and realised the S65 V8 was what was missing in my life. I’ve never really got over the loss of the S85 V10 and this would be close enough! Also with DCT a decent auto, the e92 a comfy and cosseting place to be it tucked all the boxes.

I’ve always loved them in Red but two red Mcars outside the house seemed a bit too, well red so I started looking for a Santorini blue example, preferably with the competition pack as I much prefer the wheels and you get all the good bits.

So after a little looking and a slight movement north in my budget I bought FG12 NUX.

A KA401 car of which there were 100: 50 frozen white, 25 Japan Red and 25 Santorini Blue. They were well spec’d specials with comp pack, extended leather with matching stitching, and other bits and bobs.

58k miles and in great nick. Other useful mods included back box made noisy, adj. top mounts, stud conversion, GTS gearbox flash, decent alcantara steering wheel and lovely Michelin PS4S all round. I even liked the blue start button!

Initial thoughts are that I love it. The engine is epic, the noise and throttle responsible delicious. The DCT perfect and the whole package exactly what I was after.

Looking forward to it stopping raining so I can go for an actual drive!!

I should have tried a more standard Meg first - mine was definitely too hardcore unless fully on it!

M3 so far is epic! Downshift blipping is addictive!!!!

Nice. I think the E92 M3 has aged really well.

I'll look out for you on the A33 wink

I saw your Clownshoe at Zedfest on Sunday, but didn't manage to catch up with you. It still looks stunning!

Great afternoon drive to C&M for dinner and car spotting with the famalam. Catherine’s first drive in the M3 and she loved it - which has eased some of the buyers guilt!

Some cool stuff at C&M as well: couple of favourites were this 635Csi and a beautiful Metro 1300

Fab day!

Your clown shoe twin was at Bicester

Had to double take!

Also, same metro.

My plan was Bicester heritage then C&M but the old people asked for help…

Driving out today and there was an enormous amount of fanatic cars about. Don’t think I’d seen so many cherished cars in such a short trip. Today was a good day.

Ah! S50 MNB - one day I’ll have to meet him! Plenty of people seem to mix us up!

I think quite a few of the cars had been at Bichester and were in their way back - loads on the roads today!

As you say - a good day!

Good week this week. Monday was M 50 celebration at Bicester Heritage. The lovely Mrs Touring helping me get both Ms there!

Then this morning my first chance to stretch the V8 in the M3 on my own and chase MDifficult in his ridiculous new mid life crises……sorry I meant car.

Great fun on some initially very foggy roads and I’m loving the M3 more and more each time I drive it. Brilliant all rounder!

Loving the new M3; that’s a cracking colour too.

The S65 with the DCT gearbox is a cracking combo; I really enjoyed the ones that I’ve driven. They make a glorious noise too…I was a bit meh about the noise fir a while because I’d always compared them to a B7 RS4 or a C63. Then I heard an early S55 powered car which made me realise how good the S65 sounded! hehe
