Loving the new M3; that’s a cracking colour too.

The S65 with the DCT gearbox is a cracking combo; I really enjoyed the ones that I’ve driven. They make a glorious noise too…I was a bit meh about the noise fir a while because I’d always compared them to a B7 RS4 or a C63. Then I heard an early S55 powered car which made me realise how good the S65 sounded! hehe
Colour is stunning - I stop by the window all the time!

The engine/gearbox combo is excellent and feels relentless when revving it through.

Sound wise - mine has had the 1.5 mod to the box and sounds beautiful. It’s not got the bass of even the Haywood & Scott on the Z3M but it sounds like a race car and i love it! Like a metallic bark that turns into a scream

Very happy bunny

Update:

The E92 M3 seems to have been made with people like me in mind. It does everything I want so so we’ll and apart from the horrific thirst, is a brilliant daily.

Makes me happy every time I see it! I’ve had the throttle actuators done and the dct serviced so just the rods to worry about now - but I’ll get them done next year.

Fun trip through torrential rain for the recent Sunday Service - always fun in the little Z. I was worried the arrival of the M3 would take some of the Zs thunder. Would I choose the Zs keys for drives still? So pleased it still had the X factor which makes it such a joy to drive!

Today saw very important mods for both beemers: their PH Smileys!

Very pleased with the red on red and blue on blue!

Finally the Meg has finally sold. The market definitely has dipped so I let it go for a little less than I wanted it overall I’m pleased. Will I scratch the Renault RS itch again in the future - definitely.

I will miss the Meg’s thunder!

Some cracking pictures as always.

How bad is the thirst in the E2 on a daily basis? I’m hoping the figure that you’ll tell me will make be feel better for bottling buying one this year! hehe

The thirst is prodigious. Basically 20mpg everywhere - less when pressing on.

The key Is I’ve never had a car that did more than 27mpg and the M5 did closer to 11mpg so I can live with it.

The other key is to not have a long commute!

Finally got out with MDifficult and his 1M this morning for a very satisfying drive up to C&M for breakfast.

The two are really well match and share so much hardware - main differences being the power trains and their respective characters and deliveries. That and the fact the M3 is clearly more slippery than the little white brick at high speeds!

The M3 is a genuine delight to drive. MDifficult told me to put on my big pants and use the MDM mode more and after a few clenchy moments I started to get use to the slight shift at the rear as the power goes down. The rears are massive 275s PS4S and they have huge grip and a really natural progressive give to them. Really good fun on a cold, slightly slippy morning like today.

Previously when we’ve been out, MDifficult has been cocooned in his helmet and Atom so it was great to finally let him hear the V8. I think he particularly enjoyed the downshifts into every corner, roundabout and tunnel!

I’m tempted to say it’s the best sounding engine I’ve owned - but the S85 V10 probably just still holds it. What the S65 V8 does though is rev so freely and quickly to 8k+! It’s an angrier, rortier noise than the V10. Sounding much more race car and is absolutely addictive!!

The combination of that exhaust, and the GTS map on the gearbox is *chef’s kiss*

I’m using my M3 as a daily currently..

Getting 19mpg with mixed driving, I explained it to a colleague at work that it’s costing me around 45p a mile currently laugh but I love it!

Good to hear that the M3 is living up to expectations. I still really want one, but not fit now with that thirst! laugh Love the colour of yours too.

It’s good to hear that the clown shoe still has its appeal. thumbup

Thing is depends on the commute doesn’t it. One of my colleagues spends more each week driving a 118d as she lives further away - moral of the story: live close to work, drive great cars!

How did I miss this thread, great write up, fantastic pictures and fabulous cars. That was a Sunday afternoons entertainment, what a journey.

I also love cars from the 80’s/90’s and bruiser BMW’s. But for some strange reason, I’m really attracted to the little Clio, sometimes, less is more, if that makes sense.

Thank you for taking the time to post.

Thank you! Gives me somewhere to go back and see what’s been!

And I agree - doesn’t matter what I’m driving - the Clio would have got me there slightly quicker and with a slightly bigger grin! I sold it to my cousin with strict first refusal instructions!

Great morning at the Thruxton Pistonheads Sunday Service. -5degrees when MDifficult came a calling!

Then a Christmas miracle - whilst tiptoeing down the M3 I managed an unheard of 31mpg!

But arrived safely to lots of amazing cars, a very slippy surface and a decent sausage and bacon bap!

Highlight of the morning was a go on a ridiculously icy and slippy skid pan. Ben Lowden has managed to take some excellent photos which make me look like a driving god, but unfortunately the reality was just a twit in an M3 pirouetting around and around and around!

He is also took these beauties:

All in all an excellent winter day out
