Mine got collected yesterday and taken away.
Golf GT TDI sat on the drive now instead. It's ok. It's not an S5 though..

Just glancing at Autotrader I had no idea of used starting prices for these — to think some Ph elect an old E46 M3 over this is bizarre.
I paid £12k for mine and it's worth every penny

Do people supercharge or turbocharge these lovely N/A V8’s for extra horses

APR
JHM
TTS (in the UK)

Are the notable ones....

Getting married, needed a release of equity plus the misses to be lives in the NE and it was costing me £35 a pop to go see her. The Golf will do for now, its harmless enough and the controls are all familiar. Got 61mpg on the way back in it today without trying. Could never get out the 20's with the Audi, £500+ tax etc etc.

I'd still have another though.

With the weather being a washout in the morning so all chance of doing the brake lines was abandoned for another more dryer day. So i set about doing the firmware update, mine being the original version the car left the factory with.
Version 3250

Loving things which are fairly idiot proof i used this guide
http://mr-fix.info/mmi-2g-software-update-version-...
my satnav being MMI 2G High and i bought the 3 CD disc pack from my local Audi Dealer

The guide documents that all discs be removed from the front and rear CD players, what it fails to state is which player the update CD goes into... having nearly burned the planet down to the ground having used the Nav CD player in the boot and constantly getting CD not recognised, it suddenly dawned on me that maybe i should use the in dash CD...
(I did say i like things idiot proof... clearly i'm a special idiot!!!)
anyway having got the correct disc in the correct player...

it all started to download perfectly.
Disc 2 was done twice as i have inbuilt Bluetooth
and with the last disc downloaded we have

I have the battery charger plugged in to keep the battery levels high, it kept on coming up with low battery voltage, now as the battery is of an unknown age/condition I thought i'd swap it out for a known good one...

Still having the old A5 has it's uses as the battery is the same on the 3.0tdi and the S5, the battery on the A5 being recently new i swapped them over.... It made zero difference, so now another issue to investigate

Well the battery issue turned out to be that the replacement battery had to be recoded.... never known of that before, everyday is a school day.

I found this thread on the A5 forum
http://www.a5oc.com/forums/a5-s5-topics/42834-batt...
which showed the way forward.
Just a note to others if you are inputting the whole code, including the batteries part number, make sure you have 2 spaces after that and before the 3 digit code, the long coding needs to see 26 characters in total, including spaces.

The Dr Leather wipes arrived. The seats smell lovely now, first time I've done anything other than wipe them with a damp cloth in the last 4 years!

I've found them to be excellent, i hate that worn shiny look leather gets.
Have you cleaned your steering wheel and gearknob yet? It brings them back to that lovely matt leather..
Regular cleaning with these will keep the leather fed and nourished.

Given an £8k(ish) starting price do people think this is likely low to tiny depreciation opportunity with mid 300’s bhp.
Getting more BHP is very costly relative to the market values + I guess not many buyers want modified cars.

condition is paramount, these cars can get very spendy, very quickly.... value wise who is to say?
it took the S2 (as the S5 is IMHO it's spiritual successor) a long time to reach decent values, but then they are a lot rarer these days....
My last S2 sold within the last year for north of £15k, despite me buying it for £5k a couple of years previous to that.
15 years ago you could buy an ur quattro for peanuts, now look at their values
1st gen RS6's are in a similar boat, having bottomed out their values are slowly back on the climb...

but a knackered car needing money spending on it will always be a knackered car......

if you plan to modify an S5 then plan on it being a keeper, don't sink a ton of money into it expecting to recoup your investment....

every day's a school day and all that...
music on and no bass... quick Google and it's a known issue when updating the firmware... shame the bloody install guide doesn't fking mention it whilst you are installing everything the first time hahaha

anyway, it was a quick fix.....

You'll need to access the hidden menu on the MMI unit by pressing setup and car.
Select MMI > SETTINGS > SWDL manuell then press return until you are back to your radio screen.
Remove all discs from your multi changer and your satnav unit in the boot and insert disc 1 of 8K0 998 961 in slot 1 of your in dash changer.
Press setup and return together to access the disc.
Select 'update from CD-ROM' by pressing the control knob.
Select the option "Custom" with the control button.
Select User-defined option > TUN > TUN (H42) and check both Bootloader (22>22) and Application (620-620)
Return back to the page where you initially selected TUN and scroll to the bottom to Start download
Approximately 2 minutes later, the downgrade will have completed and you can select the option to restart MMI.
and then sit confident in the knowledge that you have not only updated your firmware but also restored your recently lost bass....

oh but if you fk it up, I hold no responsibility to you being inept.... wink

So todays update is nothing more exciting than ordering more parts from my local friendly neighbourhood Spide... (wrong Universe) Audi Dealer...!

each night i have been fitting the rest of the interior LED's, very pleased with them... i did discover the passenger puddle light housing in the base of the door was cracked, so a new one was ordered and fitted (with the bulb replaced for the LED
The rear "S5" badge had a small corner of the red flash missing, so a brand new badge ordered and fitted.

Whilst talking to the Parts guy i mentioned that my main MMI knob was peeling, he said there was a repair kit available, which i replied was for the joystick option on the later MMI. He confirmed that, which wouldn't work on mine, to which he then stated that the knob isn't available on it's own "you have to buy the complete panel, at £740".
Bit of digging through ETOS and found the version of knob i needed and duly ordered... £29 is a bit better than £740...!!!

Hopefully over the weekend i can get some time to fit the brake lines and have a good clean under the arches, with getting the liners out etc...

I don't suppose you know the best way to buy a new gear knob do you? The metal coating is starting to lift on mine.

Not the cheapest option but from a dealer... It guarantees it's perfect

Or have a look on Ebay, either UK or Germany.
Either new or used...

I picked up a virtually new gearknob for the other half's A3 recently

Took advantage of the Bank Holiday weekend and threw a bit of snow foam over it. If I get a minute during the week I might wash it again and clay the front end to get rid of a few bits of contaminate that seem to have clung on.

Doesn't look bad for over 10 year old though.

It is quite therapeutic doing the claying, but getting rid of the swirls is a nightmare.....
They do look good despite their age but Audi's rarely age IMHO

I had the pleasure of an early Saturday morning wash session before the sun got overhead to bake everything on
