I would love to know whether that induction system actually adds any power? Rolling Road?

My friend had the DMS chip..it was night and day over the standard car. DMS had alot of press coverage at the time also saying it was was a must have conversion.

Hope you are not trsting the garage who ovefilled the oil to do any further work?
I'll get a power run done after the bearings have been done, don't want to spin a shell on the rollers. I'll have the remap on by then.

They do supposedly make a difference but who knows?

They actually put less in than was needed to try and avoid this. They have said they will take the excess oil out for me. I've used the garage for years and this is the first time I've had a small issue like this so it won't stop me using them tbh. They always do more than they charge me for so I am happy to keep using them. Garages make mistakes sometimes.

Op - who are you using to service? I'm from your neck of the woods and can highly recommend DMWorx. Looked after an M3 and 650i for me over 6 years. Great service, no hassle and reasonably priced. In Stoke Mandeville.

Ah - there you go! Least you know you're in good hands. Lovely M5 btw, good luck with it and I shall look out for you when I'm in Aylesbury. If you see some idiot giving you a thumbs up as you drive past it may well be me

Very easy car to overfill with oil. You have no choice but to place your trust in the dashboard warning system which I found to be a pathological liar. Tells you it needs a litre of oil, then when you do that, it tells you it's overfilled. Why the fk they couldn't just put a bloody dipstick in is beyond me.

Yeah, used them with both of my old M5's.

Thanks, I like it, wasn't sure if I would and then I got in it biggrin I don't drive around Aylesbury too much but I'll keep an eye out for a mad man hehe

Yep, it is a very poor system. I believe the way to do it is to put half in and then see how the land lies.

Since I bought the car I have been plagued with an SOS call system failure. I was told it was because the subscription had expired but I didn't want to spend 100 plus quid to find out. A guy from the E60/E61 FB group gave up some of his time this evening and coded it out for me. At the time he disabled the windows opening with the key to help with that issue of it being stealable. A top guy and now I have a much better idea of how to code things.

Update time.

Fitted an iPod module on Wednesday night so I now have iPod music in the car as I haven't looked at the diversity antenna yet.

Took the car to Paris for a weekend away with the wife and it behaved great. Racked up 633 miles at around 21mpg (calculated) which isn't bad considering I was pressing on at times. I did spend over £200 in petrol though hehe

Had an issue with catching the bumper in an underground petrol station, the driveways are just not wide enough for cars like mine so I need to get that repaired annoyingly. Also caught the passenger front alloy on a kerb at a toll station trying to get close enough for the wife to get a ticket out of the machine (she has short arms lol), so that is something else to do.

I also aren't sure if it is giving the full 500bhp in P500S, it feels very similar to P400. Need to look at that.

Apparently it has only used 0.1 litre of oil for the whole trip as well which is good.

It is at the indy today having new drop links, thrust arm bushes, lower arm bushes, new rear brake pads and coolant temp sensor fitted today.

Many monies lighter, but I now have new pads, new drop links, new bushes in the thrust arms and lower front arms. Car drives much better. New tyres to fit at the weekend (Goodyear Asymmetric 2's) and then rod bearings the weekend after. I'll have spent nearly £3k on it since buying it but you have to pay to play.

Trip computer and iPod pics from trip to Paris.

Sorry to hear about the bumper & wheel.

I did similar ipod conversion on mine back in December. It’s one of the few things where the car shows it’s age imo, as it’s still a bit clunky searching for tracks when you’ve got a gazillion albums on it, but hey-ho, still better than cds.

Your power thing - I don’t think there’s meant to be much (if any difference) at low rpm, but try accelerating at say 40mph in 5th, and press the power button on/off. To me there’s an instant ‘surge’ on, ‘flat’ off when on constant throttle - i.e. it’s noticeable. If you’re not feeling/seeing it then maybe there’s something up - might be it’s just been mapped to be in 500 mode all the time? (the first thing I typically do after starting is press the power button anyway - why drive in 400 mode when you can have 500? wink ). As far as I could tell, 400 mode doesn’t bring any fuel economy benefit anyway!

Lovely car chap, sadly probably won't ever see another like it produced. Enjoy it while we still have the option.

Also 21mpg sounds very reasonable considering the car, I'm getting 22 from my renault which is a bit sickening for a 2.0 hatchback. Hoping a remap will help this a bit.

Cheers, not much I can do about it just get it sorted at some point and chalk it down to experience!

Yeah it isn't the best! It is a shame that the Denison BT kit is so expensive. It is over £500 and at the moment I have more important things to spend the money on for something that would just be a luxury. As you say, better than CD's and also because it is a genuine BMW module the sound quality is fine.

I think it may be mapped to 500 all the time, but not 100% sure. I need to find some time to take it out for a blast, but I only picked it back up from the Indy's at around half 7 last night and then had to go get some shopping. I am going to read the codes off in INPA this week to see what if any are stored.

I should leave it in 500 all the time as well, I just didn't because I wasn't sure about the fuel lol.

Cheers! Yes it is a shame, which is one of the reasons why I bought it. I'll move to twin turbo's at some point as never owned anything with 2 turbo's before, only 1.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised. It still drains the tank quick enough and still cost me a lot of money in petrol but you have to pay to play. I am sure a remap will help, always did on my previous turbo charged cars. Are you going to take it to RS?

I just picked up one just like it last week! Excited, and still getting used to it, playing with modes etc. Also didn't pay a great deal for it, so a few bits need doing, for example no sound currently, and slight vibration at motorway speed I need to get to the bottom of.

Great to see someone else loving theirs! Mine's similar spec but without the tvs in the back, just the one on idrive in front (not that I can hear it). Also could do with replacing the M5 badge as it's faded.

19mpg so far, so about what I'd expect. There seemed to be a conversation about mine here in 2013, having googled the number plate.

Hi Dave,

I am glad you're enjoying it. If you're on Facebook then join the E60/E61 Owners Club and M5 Owners Club pages, could be helpful with the sound issue. The vibration is probably to do with wheels / centre donut (guibo I think) on the prop shaft).
Does your front screen work with TV / DVD? Mine doesn't have the TV option and didn't play the DVD I tried.

Have you put the VIN into a decoder yet? It'll tell you all of the options it had from the factory.

Enjoy! Start a thread on it so we can see your progress smile

Hi, thanks for the reply! I found a couple of groups on facebook, but the M5 one seems to be American and just seems to have pictures of peoples' cars but no real information. I found an E60/61 one which was better, but not sure if it's the same one you mention.

Good idea about the thread, I'll hopefully start one tomorrow.

Yeah tv works on front screen. Where would I find a VIN decoder? Sounds interesting.
