I understand your point, but I am looking at a further £1200 + VAT bill if it isn't the rod bearings, and that is if the company who did the original work get me booked in. I've been contacting them for 5 days now and I am no closer to it being booked in. After this I also have an electrical fault to try and sort that only happened after the rod bearings were done. I am losing my patience with the whole saga.
What do they say each day you ring to ask for a date? Just curious to know what the excuse/delay is each time you ring them.MDMA . said:

Thanks guys. All messages are stored, he can't delete them. I am sending a letter on Friday. He isn't even bothering to read my messages now. I just want it sorting in a timely manner. If that's a month then fine, so long as it gets booked in. I am following the recommendations given by consumer advice to make sure I am in the right. I really really want to avoid that, but if I have to then I will.

He never answers his phone, only seems to want to speak to me via messages on Facebook.
st. Go round to the garage premesis in person. He / she doesn’t sound like an M car specialist - what other cars did he have in when he originally did the work?
This MIGHT turn into a small claims court incident.

Have you got breakdown cover? I’d be getting the car moved to his workshop and then going myself and refusing to leave until he schedules the inspection.
It broke down 200 miles from home. I had it recovered to my house, I aren't able to have it sent to his, other than paying for it, which once again I have offered to do, even today. TheAngryDog said:

How many miles after the fix did the breakdown happen?Open mind too it might not be related.... who knows

The money you have spent is sunk - no idea why you Mod’d It TBH that’s needless and detracts from the car /likely damaging items resale value alone as it’s a niche car and then a niche on a niche.
Regardless you say it’s £1.2k+ now likely but that will get it sorted. Bonkers not to but your call.
Hope it works out for you bud.
Intentional or not, it's not for me to say, but it does often seem that you are trying for an argument. There's better ways of saying the same thing that sound a lot less condescending and knobbish. Regardless you say it’s £1.2k+ now likely but that will get it sorted. Bonkers not to but your call.

I've followed this thread from the start OP and it's really unfortunate all of the problems you've had. I am a bit of a believer that you tend to either get a lemon or for the most part the car is reliable. Sadly for you it would seem you have got the first option!
Maybe now is the time to get it fixed and cut your losses. Good luck whatever path you chose.

All the issues with the car stem from the rod bearing work. Until then the car was 100%. I've followed this thread from the start OP and it's really unfortunate all of the problems you've had. The failure happened after less than 1800 miles. If it's bearings then it could be a faulty one. If it's Vanos pump then it's just unfortunate. Bearings are covered by warranty. Pump isn't, and I have no issue paying if it's the pump. I should not need to pay if it's the bearings.
I cannot afford to fix it myself if it's the bearings. A new crank is several thousand pounds and a refurbished engine is £4495 from a company I have never heard of before. Neither are an affordable option currently.

One thing for sure though is if £ is tight currently and it needs £ to rectify - then it can wait on your drive until such point is reached. The failure happened after less than 1800 miles. The warranty you mention are you 100% sure they will cover the bearings ?

Completely got your difficulty. Similar situation with the Renault. They have a tendency to eat clutches and they require a cambelt every 5 years or 60k ish. Both of these cost 1500 quid and I'm not in a position to spend that. Hence the decision to sell up and buy something that is more within my means .

Yes, I have a 2 year warranty on the work carried out by the company. They supplied and fitted all work. It isn't a 3rd party warranty, it's a warranty provided by the garage.
You do realise if a company goes pop or elects to fold 1,000year warrants is about as useful and valuable as used toilet paperWelshbeef said:

Have dealt with this type of stuff in the past, matter of fact have dealt with opening and closing garage businesses, so might be able to point you in the right direction.

I can afford to run it just fine, but unexpected bills after laying out a lot of money makes it a little difficult when I need to spend my money elsewhere. The house is currently needing me to spend money on it and we remortgage early next year so cannot really afford to take on much more debt sadly. Shame for you with your car, I've been there before. Ran sheds for a few years before getting back into more expensive cars after saving up for a while. Mx5 is a fun choice though so I am sure you will enjoy it!
