I'm with those that say keep it

The M5 is the last of the V10s and a stunning car; just sods law yours has had these niggles!

Get the car fixed; get it back out on the road and thoroughly enjoy it wink

I'm in the get rid camp, the confidence has gone with the car for me. Its a boxed ticked now, move on to something different and less stressful.

I still miss my TVR...but I don't miss the poor reliability and the wallet wilting potential. Cars are to be enjoyed, and if they don't work when you need them to...where is the fun in that imo.

Solenoids have been cleaned with new seals. Tested and are almost at brand new levels of "quality" when tested / bled in Ista which is good.

It's just money.
What price on the inevitable and persistent feeling that something else is going to go wrong and cause more financial strife? Yes, that risk exists with a replacement - but a 'new to OP' car will definitely inspire more confidence if he does his due-diligence when buying.

Life's too short to have a car rule your emotions or your wallet.

I’d get rid, it just doesn’t seem like it’s meant to be. Get out not thinking how much is cost but how much you save by not going further.

Buy something newer, under warranty and just enjoy.

Life’s too short for a hobby to dictate your peace of mind.

My heart says to keep it and give it a chance. My head says sell it. I just don't know if I can live with a Jag at the age of 37 hehe
Got my first Jag aged 19, I am 24 now and still have once, alongside my BMW.

I think I would sell it, it is obvious you don't trust that car. However, I would hate to loose that amount of money in repairs/upgrades, hence why I rarely sell my cars tongue out

You're far too young for a Jag!

OP, I've read the complete thread. I feel for you. You luck has to change now. You've replaced all of the common failure parts. Stick with it, there will be no more NA V10s made by BMW ever. After the current Lambo crop, there'll be no made by anyone. Your M5 is special, and after all your dramas, I remain envious of such a car. smilesmilesmilesmile

I'd ignore the negative Jag comments and drive what you want.

What other big jobs haven't been done on this?

Given things like the rod bearings are sorted I'd be tempted to keep it for a bit longer, it is a V10 after all and an M car, not like you're piling money into an old 745i when a 730d would do the job 90% as well...biggrin

Would you drive it to le mans? South of france? Spain?

If not then get rid.

Cars need to be trusted. I bought my idol, an Aston, it was a bad one so got rid. Currently in a 640d that id drive to Africa without a second thought

Lumps of metal in the oil. Looks like the pump has stripped some teeth. Rest of the strip down this week.

Surely metal in the oil is not a good sign for the rest of the engine? Best of luck Mike!

It depends on where it is found and what is the cause - if the oil pump gears have munched up - then it maybe that the filter has captured any particles before they can do damage elsewhere.

However I agree with the PH'r earlier who commented on oil being contaminated by a worn out shell - that really would need a full strip and clean before rebuild

It wasn't smoking or knocking so it could have dropped to the bottom of the sump. Here is hoping. Cheers.

It's game over.

Vanos pump lost 6 teeth. These bounced around the sump and ended up in the side of the oil pick up pipe. The rest is history.

Car will be broken for spares as I simply do not want to bother with it anymore.

Thread ended.
