Really interesting and insightful read Kewy, thanks! Especially as I'm currently looking into getting a Type R, either CL7, FD2 or poss even a DC5, as at least that has four seats if not four doors.

I was surprised how little there is on tinternet about owner experiences with CL7, but then I guess this is still quite a rare car on these shores. Whereabouts are you on the South coast, would love to take a closer look at your car over the coming weeks if that's possible? I travel from Devon to Sussex every couple of months. Look fwd to reading the next installment!

Ah exciting times! An FD2 may well be the next car I go for (purely because I can't think of anything else I'd want to replace this with!).

Guess your choice on the K20 depends on what you need it for. If you don't need 5 doors and/or space and the added practicality then go for a DC5, out of the box it will out perform the Accord with ease. With a number of choice mods you can sort the Accord out though.

Obv the FD2 is on another level of budget compared to the other two, if I could afford that then I don't think I'd be considering the others.

I'm in Portsmouth mate, always happy to help!

Not so much as an update on the car. However, I just booked a channel crossing to Calais and a first nights accommodation in Baden-Baden (The Black Forest) for the middle of May (5 weeks time).

Plan is to drive down the The Black Forest, do a day or two driving round there, then south to a friends in Zurich, couple of days doing some of the Swiss mountain passes – the ones that are open in May at least.

Then to head further south, across northern Italy and up to western Austria over the course of a few days before heading home.

Excited is an understatement! Just need to make sure everything is tip-top on the car over the next few weeks so its ready to go.

Watch this space! (I'll probably create a separate thread for the road trip actually, but I'll link to it from here).

All i got to say is, Awesome euro R mate. I have been trying to figure out what i want to replace my 650I with once i have sold it, as its really not suitable for the family etc. I was thinking about getting a 8th generation accord, with the 2.4, then i remember i always wanted an accord type R years ago and i remembered the Euro R. Been having a good look around for one and found your thread and i am sold. Love the looks, styling and how no will no what it is.

Haha cheers! Keep me posted on whether you end up going down the CL7 route, don't think you'd be disappointed.

The Black Forest and Swiss Mountains should be good - Really need to organise a Euro trip myself at some point, but I've been saying the same thing for years!

It's only been a week, but the last few pics make me miss my CL9 - Unfortunately, it's currently sat on the drive looking sorry for itself after developing a rather loud suspected bottom end knock.

Don't know whether it's worth fixing, replacing the engine or look out for another CL9/Euro R...

Not much to update on the car. Fresh oil and filter last week, just needs a good clean now for the trip. Starting that by getting the car up on a ramp in my lunch today and giving the exhaust a good polish.

Wen't out over the weekend on what was probably the last jolly before the trip. Back road run through to Salisbury to the Wilton Wake Up meet at Wilton House. Stayed until the end so I could get this shot biggrin

We got there nice and early and were waved into the main courtyard which took me by surprise! Accord felt a bit 'underdressed' surrounded by the McLarens, Ferraris, Lambos and GT3s but was fun none the less.

Yeh I've been planning this for the best part of a year now, and dreaming about doing it for several years. Hopefully it lives up to expectations! If you want to follow the trip I'll be posting on my Instagram – @skewy smile

Sorry to hear about the Accord! Good opportunity to drop a K20 or a K20/K24 frank in there? :P

Thanks! biggrin

I already know of a black one (referenced in the beginning of my thread), and have heard rumours of a white one, both floating around Southampton.

So bonus points if you manage to spot one of those :P

I had and loved my PFL CH1 ATR, such a good chassis and the engine was a joy.

Really like yours, nice one.

Brief update from me whilst I enjoy my Monday morning cuppa at work coffee Lots has happened since the last post.

First of all, Euro trip. At 3am on the 11th May I left me house to go pick my mate up and head for Dover. What followed was 8 days of the most scenic, challenging, enduring, spirited driving I've ever done. I'm going to start a thread of its own for this trip later this week, which I will post a link to here. So I'm not going to go into too much detail now. But the car chewed up and spat out every single road we gave it. The general route we took was:

Dover > Calais > Belgium > Luxembourg > Germany > Black Forest > Switzerland(Zurich) > Italy(Livigno) > Lake Garda > Dolomites > Austria > Germany > Nurburgring > Home.

Mileage – 2600miles
Top speed – 155mph
Fuel cost – roughly £600

I'll go into much more detail in the dedicated thread, but it won't be the last adventure for the Accord that's for sure. Already looking at doing the Pyranees next year smile

The problem with seeing so many exciting places, and inevitably taking a lot of photos and videos of those exciting places, is that you then have to find time to sit down and organise/process the images and video. Which I am yet to do. But I will drip feed content to my Instagram and here as and when its ready. In the meantime here are just a couple of bits taken on my phone to give a taster of the trip:

Car all vignette'd up before we left – I can't bring myself to remove these even now I'm back!

Piss stop and rolly break at Lake Schlusee in the south of the Black Forest.

Post Autobahn bug massacre.

Pulled up on the SS242 in the Dolomites close to Val Gardena.

The obligatory Nordschleife shot.

Front tyre condition after tackling two mountain ranges and 9 countries hehe.

Heres a link to two very excited lads on their first time on the autobahn – https://youtu.be/YZKgMDwXt8E

As I say, plenty more content to come from that trip and I'll do a full write up in due course, but safe to say it was everything I expected and more. The Accord is so split personality, from the 10 hour cruise down there – often cruising at 110-120mph on the Autoroutes – to then screaming round hairpins and winding through valleys in the mountains.

It took a good week to get over the blues from that trip, not looking at a map over a continental breakfast with a day of exploring ahead of you is pretty depressing after a week long adventure. Luckily there was something to look forward to in the form of JDM Combe a couple of weeks after, which happened last weekend.

It's important that I mention here, that my tyres, and brakes were close to non existent by this point. I was fully prepared for a slow drive up to Combe, parking in the public car park and a casual mooch around the show and watching some track time. It didn't really pan out how I'd imagined…

Now remember Dave from the beginning of this thread? He was the guy with the black CL7 that I discovered parked outside my house before buying mine, and subsequently took me for a drive and told me all I need to know about the car before I purchased. Well me and Dave have kept in touch, and for nearly three years now we've been talking about meeting up and going for a drive or to take some photos. A few days before JDM Combe I'd mentioned it to Dave, he was available and up for the trip, result! Dave knew the roads between Hampshire and Combe better than us, so he took the lead. It turns out Dave is mental.

What followed was 2 hours of two CL7s, an S2K (my buddy Rich) and a 370z (Rich's GF Emma) – flying through the country side passing cars at every available chance and making as much noise as possible. My brakes and tyres had more work to do yet!

Stop off somewhere on the trip.

Ying Yang.

We safely arrived at Caste Combe, parked over the road in the field in the public parking and walked over to the show. My brakes and tyres had survived the drive up there and thats a result in itself. Time to soak up the sun and take in some Japanese goodness. No exaggeration, we'd been at the show less that ten minutes when a guy approaches us with a couple of track time slots he couldn't use as his car didn't pass the sound checks… £20 a session rather than the £40 they were asking for on the day. OH FFS GO ON THEN!

Just a quick reminder that the last time I was track was at JDM Combe the same time a year previous. The result of that experience was broken driveshafts and 8 months of hell trying to diagnose and fix the issue. I would be avoiding the curbs at all cost today! The benefit of that experience is that in the process of diagnosing and fixing my judder, the Accord had been treated to a bit of an overhaul and was in a much better state this time round. Modifications since the last Combe session included:

Fresh driveshafts
New LCAs with bushes
New drop-links
New Lower BJs
New ARB bushes
Fatter RARB
Refurbed calipers
Braided lines
Fresh brake fluid
OEM wheels back on with GY Eagle F1's all round (last year I had some T1R's on there).

And I can safely say that these changes didn't go unnoticed. Tyres alone made for a much more enjoyable experience, barely any screech and where you pointed it went. Understeer was non-existent, when the traction broke occasionally, it was more a progressive 4 wheel drift which a slight lift off the throttle and steering adjustment would counter, then foot to the floor and it would dig in again. Even with tyres looking like the picture above, it held it's own and even did a bit of overtaking this time! wink

For anyone who's interested, here's a video of the session – https://youtu.be/vbX5Z99HsJg
(My second ever time on track, go easy on me! Commentary courtesy of my co-pilot Dave biglaugh)

The brakes cooked to the point of becoming dangerous after about 5 laps, and I took the car in shortly after the video stops. But I knew that was coming. It was a success and was great to be able to see what difference the past year and hard work had made.

Here's a couple of photos from the session:

With brakes well and truly buggered now, I took a gentle drive home and now have a short list of TLC jobs to do in the next couple of weeks. Going to start with a decent set of pads (PBS maybe?) as I feel it was just the crappy Brembo pads in their that let me down on track. If this doesn't solve things then discs and/or possible bigger brakes will be in the pipeline.

I'm now on my third cup of tea and if you're still reading, thanks! I better get on with some work rolleyes

Sorry for the the lack of posts. I can confirm that the CL7 does have some hidden ISOFIX points and I now have a new member of the family to make use of them. Little boy born middle of July, he went on his first run out in the Honda the day before yesterday (albeit just to the shops) biggrin

Haha, I've learnt to look at this as a hobby as opposed to a utility, and an expensive hobby at that! Been up that way several times over the last couple of years for Mimms, unfortunately with Rockingham now closed Mimms will no longer be held there frown I'm well overdue a trip to MK for a skate though so may plan a trip up there in the not to distant future smile

Congrats on the new addition, I dare say the Accord is actually quite practical! I made do with the EP3 and my daughter is now 4 and loves being in the front!

Thanks BF!

I did have a minor panic moment when it appeared that it didn't have ISOFIX points, they were in fact just further along hidden behind the seat backs. This does however mean that the childseat base is more towards the middle of the back bench meaning the middle seat becomes redundant, and therefore it's currently a 4 seater as opposed to 5 – interesting little fact for anyone who may be in a similar position one day smile

Back to race car chat rolleyes I'm just about to book a track day at Snetterton on the 10th Sept biggrin

I noticed that on mine. It took me a while to mentally get over the creases the kiddy seat makes on the back seat bench!
