One of me old mates who does up radial and Merlin engines very very cluey bloke donated the spark plug covers that fit under the exhaust pipes and shield the plugs, I’ve only seen one on a mustang once very hard to find but look very good on, stripped paint of rocker covers looks better

Looking good, and some hard-core craftsmanship and love being brought to bear.

Was this car from Perth?
If so saw it started in 2010 - pretty frightening!
The owner (TE) had got the Meteor (tank version of Merlin, 27 litres of V12 goodness) engine as a NOS item, had been wrapped in wax.

Incredible work.

You casually reference doing things that take skills and talent that most of us can only dream of with this project!

That's a fantastic project, great to see it coming together via the magic of PH in a short few days!

Definitely prefer the stripped heads with red lettering to match the oil filler, that's brilliant.

Are you going to paint the body?

Twin carbs per 3 cyls? So, 4 carbs a side?

Only way I can see it working, but probably wrong

I think the carbs just feed into a common plenum chamber between the cylinder heads rather than into specific cylinders.

Lufbramatt is spot on,,,,,long plenum,,,the carbs are all Holley 2 barrel 94s, and more is always better looking, Ray Jones who built the manifold was a bit of a legend in the boat world in the 50s through to 90s, the manifold I’ve got was on this boat in pics ,the boat was named Merlin it gyrocoptic because of the toque the engine made, killing the driver he got trapped in the hull nasty end, all the carbs have had the accelerator pumps disconnected so I’m guessing that’s the reason, so I’m thinking it will go from idle circuit straight to power valve wich won’t matter to me the toque should cover it, will find out on the test day..

Rays the one in the white overhauls, he was mates with my mate who bought that engine years ago, they both where racing Merlin powered hydroplanes against each other, I pit crew on mates (Aussie connection) Merlin hydroplane and discovered the manifold and carbs on a shelf one day in his shed so he sold it to me. . Picture mates boat we raced in May, the only Merlin powered hydro in Australia still racing..

Amazing project. Does the engine have an aviation history or was it crate supplied for racing boats by rolls?

Meteors aren’t aircraft engines, this one was in centurion tank the reason for me using this engine is the crankshaft rotates the same way as your car engine which is anti clockwise looking at the back of the motor or sitting in the drivers seat, Merlin’s are aircraft engines about two feet longer because of the large snail shaped supercharger and the crankshaft rotates clockwise looking at rear of engine, so you have to reverse the rotation with another gearbox to make it work, also a merlin now are 50 thousand dollars plus and a meteor over here are from 5 to15 thousand and are less complicated to run and maintain, I know of 9 meteors in sheds in my town and about 12 Merlin’s as well..and sheds full of spare parts...
