The dealer was so quick to come on here before and defend his position- wonder if he'll be so quick to defend this error?...
It might not be his error, it could be finance company. To be fair he did return my call and advise he'll sort tomorrow.

I fear that isn’t the issue. Buying the cheapest available car, unseen and having them delivered to you may be it. That and not learning from experience...

Did they pay the 2k in the end?

Few hundred under, but still more than I was offered by others, such as this joker.

Travelling costs. fk off!

I had that when selling a car and also when selling a high chair. People automatically taking money off as they have to travel. hehe

Well this was an interesting read.

What are you going to replace it with, or do you still have the Volvo?

There were loads. I advertised it at £2000 and had people offering £1300 without even asking questions. I figured £200 off what I was asking was worth it for not having to deal with these people, plus no comeback either.

Lost £1200 quid tho, and still no goodwill from the dealer towards the rad which is probably my biggest annoyance with the whole thing. A bit of goodwill would have made me feel much better about everything.

Kept the Volvo thankfully. Shall not be changing cars for sometime after this mess.

It’s been an interesting read, I’ll give you that. I’ve come to the same conclusion as you about cars and am sticking with my current one for the foreseeable now.

If it makes you feel better, my story:

Flew up to Manchester from Exeter to buy one of the more expensive Clio 197s on the market. Positive test drive, cash handed over. Drive home down the motorway, gearbox is fked. So that’s why we didn’t do any NSL roads. Bought from a dealer I’m taking to small claims. Currently £1,500 down.

To cheer myself up I bought a Megane R26, the car I sold to buy the Clio. It’s engine blew up in 4 days of ownership. Prev. owner had to know. Now stripping that for parts to recover my losses.

Like you, prior to that, I’d had a good run of buying and selling for minimal cost.

Chin up, chalk it down to experience, and enjoy your current Volvo.

Another Subaru "bought blind from Scotland" disaster tale to cheer you up, Simon.

Looked for an Outback for weeks and weeks that wasn't knackered and finally found one... In Glasgow. The photos looked good, a 55 plate with 80k, full history and described by the dealer as immaculate, I took a punt on it and had it delivered to Shropshire. Strong money at a bit under £3k, but looked worth it.

On arrival it was running on 2, the tyres were practically slicks, the interior was covered in tiny claw marks, left hand head gasket was weeping and the clutch was shagged, not to mention the corrosion that had gripped the entire underside.

Lots of welding and painting, five Vredesteins, both head gaskets, plugs and leads, oil and filters, cambelt and water pump, clutch kit and DMF (ouch) and new interior bits and pieces later it was pretty much as it should have been as described by the dealer (who wouldn't talk to me when I made representations to him)

Three weeks after declaring myself reasonably satisfied that all was now well, a disabled teenager in a motability scheme BMW on hand controls that he should never have been allowed anywhere near ran into me on a lane near our house and pretty much destroyed the front end.

Got two grand and a 50:50 from the insurance company, leaving us around four grand down on the experience.

Never again...

... apart from when I replaced it with an unseen H6 from a dodgy dealer in Manchester...

Two years on it's still going strong.

You lose some, you win some.

I think that’s it, Simon has taken a lot of stick in this thread for how things panned out, but we’ve all done it!

And if you haven’t, you’ve probably only ever walked in to your nearest VAG garage and signed the PCP papers...

Reading that story above makes me feel better, thanks! Speaking of rust, I never did look under it but did find some more whilst changing the mirror. I'm not sure what you do to them up there, but I really didn't expect it to be that bad.

I'm glad. I still shudder when I think about it! Mine had lived in Aberdeen for most of its life, high winds and a salty environment don't do any favours to any car. Maybe I should recount the tale of the Alfasud I bought from Aberystwyth... Or not. I'll probably weep.

Careful! I took some stick for suggesting something similar a while back hehe

Wait, you accepted "a few hundred under £2k" but you wouldn't accept £1500, which is "a few hundred under £2k" to get rid of it...?
