Hey Guys!

My first Reader's Cars thread, and my first hot hatch too! I've always been massively into cars and it's part of my career as well. I maybe haven't had particularly PH cars in the past, cars worth noting being a Rover 25 which I tarted up going down the OEM+ route, a couple of Audis (an A4 and 3 litre A6), and a Saab 9-3. I have also owned an MX5 though so maybe that goes some way to making up for it! Currently though I'm rolling around in a 1.0 Peugeot 108 - It was a money saving exercise, and it served that purpose well. However I cant wait to get back into something with a bit more go.

Anyway, at the end of May I test drove and put in an order for a Hyundai i30 N Performance. I've had a keen interest in this car since before it was launched and have avidly read and watched a multitude of reviews about the car. The test drive was just awesome, the dealer was quite insistent that I put it in N Mode and take it for a proper thrash. Everything from the acceleration, the sound, right down to the little flashing shift lights on the dash gave the car a sense of fun and occasion that normally a Hyundai has absolutely no right to have. I was completely sold.

So, the car is pretty well loaded anyway, I have specified Micron Grey paintwork, and added the only option being the 'Winter Pack' which adds heated seats and steering wheel.

The car was originally September bound, but has arrived early. I will be collecting on Tuesday this coming week! I was given the option of them holding the car until September, but I'm not really bothered by the new plates, the car is being registered on my private plate anyway. As a bonus I have 3 weeks off work in August so it'll be nice to get out and enjoy the car.

I do have a couple of minor plans when I collect the vehicle which are as follows :-

- Replace dealer plates with my gel resin plates and black surrounds
- Debadge bootlid apart from the 'H' and the 'N' - It's far too cluttered as standard
- Fit Heko Wind Deflectors
- Fit Silver interior trimming / Carbon Wrap part of fascia - This is something that is just a trial to start with to see how it looks, I'd quite like just give the dash/doorcards a minor lift just by breaking up the finishes a little.
- Swap out OEM Cone filter for Pipercross Replacement (yet to arrive)
- Obligatory PH Smiley (yet to arrive)

Properly excited for Tuesday. I'll update with pictures once I have collected the car.

Nice one!
It will be great to hear of your experiences with the H N130.

I think it has a lot of PH intrigued but maybe still unsure.

Plenty of pics too please.

I'll be really keen to hear what you think of it. I really like these

You're not too far from me - would it be incredibly cheeky to see your car for myself sometime? boxedin

Please god don’t carbon wrap bits of interior. There’s nothing in the world to make an interior worse looking than that.

That said, I’m a massive fan of these and need one badly. It’ll be interesting to see what the ownership of one is like.

I don't see why not. I'm sure I'll be free sometime in August.

Haha, I wasn't intending to go mad with the stuff, its just one panel on the dash and thats it. Don't get me wrong the interior is acceptable as it is, but I just think it needs something to try and break up the sea of elephant's arse effect black plastic!

I have an off cut of some from work, which is decent stuff and not cheap, just to see what it looks like so I don't waste money buying it and it turns out I don't like it, or it doesn't hide the plastic grain enough.

Could be worse. I could be putting some such crap like 'Because Hyundai' down the side of the windscreen :P

I'd probably look to getting some replacement trim and having it hydro dipped if you want a carbon effect. It tends to come out much, much better than wrap which I don't really ever having seen look decent if I'm honest.

Intrigued about these- seen a couple on the road and they're pretty nice looking things.

Absolutely love the idea of these - a real "blue collar" hot hatch, and they sound fantastic (one lives near me).

Not sure on the carbon stuff - goes against my perception of it - but would love one of these. Looked into one actually and was told that they are having some problems, VW-esque, with the new worldwide emissions testing scheme.

That's all sorted now. I believe they have been able to register 2019MY cars for the last week or so, of which mine is one. I don't know what the co2 figures are (nor do I particularly care), but the car is now fitted with a GPF. It doesn't however seem to effect the performance or noise.

It's here!

I've been busy doing my bits and pieces, and of course out driving it. Some will be pleased to hear I've now decided against the carbon wrap, having seen the dash for myself again.

I'm off to the welsh coast this weekend. I'll take my proper camera, so there'll be more pics to follow biggrin

I dont know if you are asking what it is or if it has one!

Yes its fitted with a GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) to meet new emissions regs. I can assure its done nothing to the sound though! As good as I remember from the test drive.

I went through carwow and got just under 10% off list + options. Finance was also at 4.9% which I don't think they are offering at the moment, I just caught the end of that when I ordered end of May.

I went through carwow too when I picked mine up at the end of May. Think you have got pretty much the same deal as me. Basically test drove at local dealer, activated carwow to look for deals, picked up a white one with winter pack that had just been delivered to the showroom a week later. Actually would have preferred Red or Grey but didn't want to wait 6 months for one! So took the white which I am pleased with. The red lips on the front and rear spoilers really look good against the white.

It's great! I love mine. Totally normal hatchback if you want it to be with 40mpg on a steady trip on the motorway with cruise control or it can be totally crazy with so much noise that you would think you were driving a different car.

It's hard not to drive in N mode everywhere just because of the noise!! It becomes very addictive! Im 2,250 miles into mine now and it just gets better and better. It makes you want to go out and drive it. I must admit there are times when I just sit and look out of the window at it and think 'where shall we go just for the fun of it'!

It's a great everyday car too. Don't be put off using the different modes (Apart from ECO, it doesn't really save you any fuel after testing it on a decent run both ways!) 5 Doors and large boot although the strut brace bar in the boot does make it a little awkward if you wanted to put the rear seats down flat, although it can be removed with a bit of spanner work. I've been on a couple of 80 mile each way round trips and by using normal mode along dual carriage way and A roads managed an average of 42.4mpg for the trip. It doesn't lose any of the feel but obviously in N mode its much a tighter feel and with the touch of a button on the steering wheel, N mode can be accessed for overtaking, or whatever you feel like. Rev matching is a nice feature too although sometimes people look at you as though you can't actually drive when changing down gears!

I spend most of my time in N Custom. Sooo many settings but mine is full N apart from suspension which is in normal mode. N mode suspension for a decent period of time on these roads will have you at the dentist to replace the shaken out fillings, its very hard! On a smooth track I would say N mode suspension would be fine but any other surface it would need to be Custom setting for me.

Just a little insight into my ownership over the last 2 months, I am sure you will enjoy it, they really are a good bit of kit. Does everything you need a modern hatchback to do.

Nice smile I've seen a couple of reviews that have been critical of the handling in the wet (or lack of) probably due to the tyres, any input on that?

I haven't driven it in the wet yet. I doubt I'll be testing its limits in the wet either!

So nice! And I can't believe I'm saying that about a Hyundai smile

I'm test driving one next weekend, possibly replacing my good ol mk5 gti.

I've tried the Gold R so far and will also try the Civic Type R, did you try any of those and if so what made you go for the N?

It's all subjective at the end of the day. A mate of mine has the Golf R, which I've driven, but it does nothing for me. Its so.....bland?

As for the Civic...I have eyes!
