The black roof does look good. I hope you will be washing it carefully yourself and not risking the local hand wash !
Looking forward to see pics of it on the new springs.
Ps. Apologies for the New Beetle thread derail
I wouldn't even send the works vans to the local wash so no worries there...
No meed to apologise for any thread drift lol

got her back home safe and sound.... chuffed is an understatement.....

I never took an image of the interior after it was cleaned, sadly no before, it looked disgusting, truly grimy and unloved....

there was a thick slimy grime all over everything and the carpets had that sticky just died in feel.... (shudders....)

Now I can start tweaking more....

I think the wheels will look even better once I've got rid of the gap in the arches.....

Looks like a new car!

I’ve never driven a CC, are they like a regular Passat to drive? I’m beginning to look ahead to my next motorway beater in a year or two’s time. Something quiet and refined with a decent seat for 3-4 hour journeys is my criteria.
As I have had a normal 2014 Passat i'd like to say I have good authority on how they compare.... the longer wheelbase coupled with the magnetic suspension actually makes it feel more refine, a lot.....
The more rakish windscreen makes it feel more sporty (I can't think of the word I want to use)
It is physically bigger so takes up more space....

My only criticism is that it's seats are no where near as good as my S5's, it doesn't hug the shoulders as well as i'd like but still makes for effortless miles on the motorways, the factory touchscreen satnav, phone prep etc are superb, although I do need to do a software update on this along with new maps....

One weird thing which was never an option on the UK versions was the push to talk for speech dialogue on the hands free, simple coding change courtesy of VCDS and it all works as it should.... it's there, just not turned on.

I am trying to sort out the codings so that I don't have to press the brake pedal every time I want to release the handbrake, I know it is possible as I've turned it off on every Audi I've had with the electric handbrake, I've just not worked out the coding yet....

Have you checked out the condition of the brake piston seals? I've just had a rather large bill for two new rear calipers after the seals failed, allowing water to ingress, rusting and seizing the pistons.
did the rear brakes about 20 minutes after getting it home, first thing looked at was the condition of the pistons....

But for an extra 4k you could have got a much better conditioned newer example with lower miles and no fking about?

This isn't man maths, it's monkey maths.
As you have zero idea what I paid for the CC it is money well spent on having as car in exactly the condition I want. I know the history of everything single mile it has done and i'll get at least another 100k miles out of it and it will still be in great condition....

makes perfect man sense to me.... and maybe I didn't like the newer version... not all facelifts are better....

I test drove one a year or so ago and it was a nice car, didn't feel as comfortable to drive as the Mondeo I tested on the same day / same roads. The suspension was a lot harsher. On the other hand it was a nicer place to sit.
For me I prefer the Sports mode, I can't stand a wallowy car (not that this is in any shape, size or form a sports car hahaha)... this suits my needs perfectly smile

Its not tidying up, its going for a budget car to save money, then spending the money you'd have spent on the s5 keeping it running. Odd man maths.
That's the thing with man maths, they only make sense to the man who is doing the math...
I have no need to justify it to anyone....
I enjoy my cars, i enjoy working on them...

And i still have my money to spend on my S5, I'm just thankfully now not putting stupid miles on it, that's what the CC is for and I'm putting in the condition i want

I suppose if you do keep the car for another 100k miles a 4 grand respray isn't too outrageous but I reckon it's 50/50 as to whether that engine can make it past 200,000 without a rebuild.
In my experience these engines can go on for long miles, there's been a couple in the family that are over 250k with no internal work... Just regular servicing and not ignoring issues....
My father has a Bora with the earlier version of this engine has nearly 270k and is still used daily....

However, if the engine develops a fault, it'll be fixed... No drama or fuss

Live and let live. Life’s too short, in my opinion. You can do whatever you want to a car (or bike, or boat etc). If you can afford it and it brings a little happiness, then go for it. By posting such a build you are always open to opinions, but as long as the comments are respectful, then I say no problem. Looking forward to updates!

Exactly, i post because i like to share.... Comments are welcomed, criticism is welcomed as long as it's constructive....

I don't expect everyone to "get it"....

What does come across from this conversation is the the OP seems to thoroughly enjoy the actual process of refurbishing the car to his personal specification.

For that reason I can understand why he has done it even if it is not a choice I would make (preferring the option of buying a better car in the fist place).

So it doesn't really matter that it doesn't make financial sense to me - the OP is having fun and that is what counts for him!
since when has it being financially sensible ever made sense lol....

fun with a capital FFFth

Black / dark wheels do look a bit "Corsa Ltd Edition" v
laugh

Such a lovely wheel design which you now can't see due to the colour. They'll also look bigger and the car will look lower if they're a brighter colour.
The good thing is I can change the colour as and when I like... it costs me nothing as I have the facilities to strip and redo them through work, car is off the road for 2 days max....
I like the darker colour wheels as I don't always get to clean the car every weekend and it hides the brake dust a little

Technically they are not black, they are a dark chrome but then i'm being pedantic smile lol

so today I had a couple of hours to change a couple of detail bits, those who have been paying attention will know I hate things not right....

I'd previously bought the new lower dash trim panel as the soft touch coating around the key slot had worn off

now I could have stripped and redone it but for the price of a brand new panel it wasn't worth the effort...

much much better....
as on other cars I don't like the yellow interior lights so again good old Trup's came up with the goods....
Number plate lights, boot light, glove box and interior dome lights all done

old nasty

old versus new

I'm just waiting on the reverse lights to arrive and all done, sadly the car wasn't specc'ed with puddle lights or footwell lights, so that'll be a project for another day.

and I had to buy yet another set of number plates as some daft sod decided to treat the car to a private plate, I won't say who...!!!

VW and age related so hopefully won't scream "knobhead" hahaha

Well with the Satnav maps being 6 years out of date i went on the hunt for a genuine SD update...
Good old Ebay came up good, found a very helpful guy who was incredibly helpful who sold me one of these

Installing the card results in this

Installing is about 2 hours, that'll be completed on the drive into work tomorrow....

I just ordered one of these for my CC also, but I won't be home till nearer Christmas to use it

Can you report back what you get with it, does it include speed camera locations etc, postcode 5 or 6 digit etc, anything other than just new maps?

Cars looking great, fantastic daily car and ticks lot of boxes, expect to keep mine a while
Well the full postcode input is already possible on the RNS315 so that won't change. I'll advise on if anything else comes with the update.
I'm just happy to have updated maps so i'm not driving through fields or in the middle of a pond any more..!!!

Well the ABS issue got sorted today, despite a false start with an incorrectly supplied ABS sensor.
There are 2 types, 1 for ESP equipped and 1 for non ESP....
Guess what type I got supplied first.....!!!

but once the correct one fitted all's good on that front, I don't have any codes stored now in any module...

I had also got a wheel bearing, just incase the sensor ring on the back was the cause, good job that wasn't the issue as some muppet in the cars past has rounded the spline drive bolt head so that wasn't coming undone today, i'll weld a socket to it in the week and replace the bolt, will probably stick the wheel bearing on as in there and it's done then....

Bloody hate cowboy mechanics....!!!
