Looks like a new car!
I’ve never driven a CC, are they like a regular Passat to drive? I’m beginning to look ahead to my next motorway beater in a year or two’s time. Something quiet and refined with a decent seat for 3-4 hour journeys is my criteria.
I test drove one a year or so ago and it was a nice car, didn't feel as comfortable to drive as the Mondeo I tested on the same day / same roads. The suspension was a lot harsher. On the other hand it was a nicer place to sit.I’ve never driven a CC, are they like a regular Passat to drive? I’m beginning to look ahead to my next motorway beater in a year or two’s time. But for an extra 4k you could have got a much better conditioned newer example with lower miles and no fking about?
This isn't man maths, it's monkey maths.
As you have zero idea what I paid for the CC it is money well spent on having as car in exactly the condition I want. I know the history of everything single mile it has done and i'll get at least another 100k miles out of it and it will still be in great condition....This isn't man maths, it's monkey maths.
makes perfect man sense to me.... and maybe I didn't like the newer version... not all facelifts are better....

For me I prefer the Sports mode, I can't stand a wallowy car (not that this is in any shape, size or form a sports car hahaha)... this suits my needs perfectly PorkRind said:
Its not tidying up, its going for a budget car to save money, then spending the money you'd have spent on the s5 keeping it running. Odd man maths.
That's the thing with man maths, they only make sense to the man who is doing the math...I have no need to justify it to anyone....
I enjoy my cars, i enjoy working on them...
And i still have my money to spend on my S5, I'm just thankfully now not putting stupid miles on it, that's what the CC is for and I'm putting in the condition i want

The Passat looks mint. Still didn't get the bit about the S5. I thought the point was that it's a practical everyday car..albeit near to the top of the range. I get why you might not use an R8 or a 911 everyday but I thought that was the A5 range's raison d"etre. I was loaned an RS5 for a week and found it to be very comfortable and useable but not over exciting. It looked great but felt. well..a bit ordinary.
Live and let live. Life’s too short, in my opinion. You can do whatever you want to a car (or bike, or boat etc). If you can afford it and it brings a little happiness, then go for it. By posting such a build you are always open to opinions, but as long as the comments are respectful, then I say no problem. Looking forward to updates!

I suppose if you do keep the car for another 100k miles a 4 grand respray isn't too outrageous but I reckon it's 50/50 as to whether that engine can make it past 200,000 without a rebuild.
In my experience these engines can go on for long miles, there's been a couple in the family that are over 250k with no internal work... Just regular servicing and not ignoring issues....My father has a Bora with the earlier version of this engine has nearly 270k and is still used daily....
However, if the engine develops a fault, it'll be fixed... No drama or fuss

I don't expect everyone to "get it"....
What does come across from this conversation is the the OP seems to thoroughly enjoy the actual process of refurbishing the car to his personal specification.
For that reason I can understand why he has done it even if it is not a choice I would make (preferring the option of buying a better car in the fist place).
So it doesn't really matter that it doesn't make financial sense to me - the OP is having fun and that is what counts for him!
