Bring that Beat back... 1991 Honda Beat
Discussion
And the Beat goes on....
A lot of work has been going into the rear cover, pictures below show the buck/template from which a carbon fibre mould will be taken and then subsequently the final product made from the mould in carbon fibre.
The speed hump now has a mould in carbon fibre, the inside which you cannot see is smooth for the final products.
At the front of the car Peter has been working on the battery tray location nice and low down and made a aluminium air deflector to direct air into the new dual core rad.
Engine work has begun, crank is in, piston rings on, valves and springs now in the head and piston waiting to go in.
Rear 3 quarter view and some pics of the aero screen and side screen mock ups/templates in cardboard.
Hopefully engine will be rebuilt fairly soon and car can go fully into paint.

Peter has been busy, part of his reason for him taking this project on was to try out new stuff and learn new skills. We now have a proper fibreglass mould for the rear cover.
These may seem quite simple and straight forward parts to make but a ton of work has gone into them and now he can make the actual FG or CF parts to fit the car from these.
Engine wise we getting there too, below pic can just about see piston one at top dead centre.

Make sure you have the intake and exhaust springs in the right places. A friend had his rebuilt and as they're very similar they were mixed up. He's been getting valve bounce at the top end, which will hopefully be fixed now he's found and resolved the issue.
Thanks, is that the red Beat that sees a bit of track action? We had similar dilemma so I ordered one exhaust valve spring from Japan so we could be sure.
Hi Rocket. I'm just checking in to say that I'm loving this project which I just came across last night and have caught up with it. These little gems weren't on my radar and though the bdisation of the vehicle is partial abhorrent to my older self, it appeals strongly to the creativity of my youth when I customised a Mini with a dearly departed mechanic friend. I would do it again and the excitement and uniqueness of this project will put a smile on yours and everyone else's faces when out on the road. Bon chance!
Cheers for the positive comments chaps, I think it will be a bit of fun when it's done and should hopefully put a smile on a few faces when it's out and about.
The shooting brake! Everything about it shouts no to me, all that extra weight high up but good on the owner for having a go and it looks like a proper job.

More progress on the rear cover, we have one now in fibreglass and a test fit with seat in place to see where to trim etc.
Test fitting the strut braces
Removed the top mounted dash speakers, which leave handy drain holes in the dash...
Interior trim cut and test fitted for aeroscreen
