Well just tucked up in bed coming back to this thread after reading last night…….jeez, a lot of action and not so much about cars.
I’ve been in Dubai 10yrs now and whilst I won’t wade into the debate too deeply but as a proud Yorkshireman, I love home and during my time here, I love it here too. It’s treated me and my family (wife & 2 boys, 3 & 8) very well. We live a modest life and have humble friends. Despite the glitz, glamour and fakeness there is still a decent lifestyle to be had and the beauty of the desert, the coast (and winter weather) is great.
No, it’s far from perfect. There’s questionable things that happen (or have happened in the past). Some things in the press are completely blown out of proportion (because it sells) yet other things are probably true. No right or wrong in what people think but we all have a choice and it’s the one you take which matters.
We will leave before too long, but I’ll look back with fondness. All the friends we’ve made, the cultural diversity our kids have enjoyed & their friends, the career progression it’s helped us achieved, the places we’ve traveled and the way we (and any expat) were treated during situations like covid put other expat populated cities to shame.
I forgot the most important thing……cars! Pete you’ll be in your element! Even with my humble lifestyle, I’ve enjoyed some mega cars (by my standards not yours) and some which wouldn’t easily be as possible elsewhere……oh and cheap fuel.
All this said, I love the UK and although I’m deeply aware of challenges back home too. Nowhere is perfect, but wherever you are, if you’ve got your family and health then you’re doing pretty good.
Pete, I’m well connected out here. If you need any advice, shout up. I work in education so pretty well placed to advise on schools (when you get to that stage). You can’t go far wrong though, some amazing places out here.
Massively appreciate the help, especially with the schooling. So expect a message soon haha. I have quite a few friends over there and they have some crazy cars. So when I get over there it looks like the competition will be on. Hopefully you’ll still be there when I get there and we can have a beer or water. Pete, how will you relationship with ferrari continue. Given in both your collections you've bought a lot of ferrari's how is that going to work in Dubai?
Just thinking given how much money is there and Ferraris clients in Dubai where would you stand in terms of special cars, car launches and allocations?
Also is your Singer relationship non existent now? I can't imagine they are too fond with A. blasting their hand built car as a Friday car on Pistonheads B. selling it
p.s. how many 695 Tribuno are for sale in Dubai?
Pretty decent still as I’ll be racing the U.K. challenge series with the 488 and I’ll do the Middle East series in the 296 challenge next year. Just thinking given how much money is there and Ferraris clients in Dubai where would you stand in terms of special cars, car launches and allocations?

Yeah I’m not really that fussed about the Singer relationship, really nice people who work there but the car just didn’t work for me.
Not sure about the 695 situation over there haha

I don’t think I have posted on this thread, but I have often read it in absolute awe of jot on the cars but the Man.
Pete if you are half as decent as it appears from your deluge of good deeds, then thank you.
You don’t me or anyone fighting morons for you, but Feck it I’m doing it anyway.
If you want to criticise him for his current decisions then read through the whole thread.
Read about his charity work.
Read about his kindness to strangers on the internet who have rides in dream cars thanks to him.
Have a look at yourself, if you still think he’s a prick and you’re so much better then thank you for being such a great person yourself, but maybe take a mark or two off for being nasty to a stranger for no real reason.
Other than that get the fk out, yes we have free speech and yes you can say what you want but don’t be the prick who makes this all stop. No one will thank you for it.
Lets get back to being nice, lets get back to being supportive, let’s get back to what PH used to be.
That'd be the charity work where now the position is 'if you want health care, pay for it yourself instead of getting it for free' as per his last response to me?Pete if you are half as decent as it appears from your deluge of good deeds, then thank you.

I'm not 'being nasty' and I get this thread is all about fellating Pete, but to say that Dubai is 'more equal' than here is bks.

People do pay their fair share over there, you want medical help, you pay the doctors and the hospitals, you want to use any of their devices, you pay. Nothing is free, so yeah……everyone pays their fair share. How hard is that to understand.
Except they don't 'pay their fair share'. They die if they can't afford to 'pay their fair share'. Edited by Sway on Thursday 6th July 17:37
Let the car talk commence
Hey everyone
Long time no talk, yes my IG has gone. Just too busy with work and trying this ‘no social media’ thing.
It’s going well, I’ve spent more time on myself and my family and business. Lost 2 stone, got myself settled in the Middle East (still here for a while though), opened a new office in South Africa, opening one in Ethiopia and possibly Bali too. Spending a lot of time on the race track instead of the road.
So to stop any rumours about the DLS, me and Beardy filmed my collection of the DLS last year but it didn’t go too well. He posted it ages ago and I asked him to take it down as it painted singer in a bad light. As someone mentioned before, if is a ‘prototype’ style car so what did I expect!
I had a fair few problems with the car to start with but Singer sorted it all out and delivered me a great car. I decided to sell the car as I was moving to the UAE and rhd cars over there don’t really work out that well. I asked them to convert it for me but that was a no go. Anyways I sold it and yes I made a fair bit of money on the overs.
So it was all good and quiet and then SHMEE dropped that recent video, next thing I know I had a message from Singer asking me to take it down. I didn’t realise it was up and then I spoke to Beardy to take it down. He didn’t understand why Singer would get so pissy, as they have to take the rough with the smooth. To be fair I agree with that, it can’t all be one sided.
Anywayssssssss, he took it down, Singer thanked me, we got talking and next thing you know I have a DLS Turbo on order as of yesterday haha. This time it’ll be lhd and will come with me to Dubai and Oman.
I’m here for any questions if you’d like to know more about the DLS or what my plans are with my cars.
Cheers
Pete

You sound a lot happier Pete and that's a good thing. Here's hoping everything goes well for you in the future.
Thanks RATATTAK, I am happier. It’s nice to be in the sun. I’m never stressed anymore and I find solace in the littlest things. I do still have my 695 Biposto, which I’m sure you’ll be glad to know. Can’t part with that at all. That’s going in my bedroom of my new house as an art piece. Hope you’re well too buddy. Cupid-stunt said:
You defo sound more relaxed and in a better place.
What's the plans out there?
Thanks Cupid, yeah I definitely am. My idea is just to race more in the Middle East challenge series and maybe some of the Asia series. Still doing the U.K. challenge series but because I’ll only be allowed back in the U.K. for 16 working days in my first year I’ll have to watch how many races I’m going to do (can’t be arsed with battling with HMRC). What's the plans out there?
And yeah, just live out the rest of my days relaxing, working, racing and travelling.
I won’t have a base over here after September this year, can’t really be in Dubai from June to End of August as it’s just too hot. However after that I’ll be gone for good and then I’ll just spend the Dubai summers in Bali or South Africa with the odd trip back to the U.K. for my races.
Here’s the last race I did at Spa with me looking like a gay power ranger in all my get up.

That outfit suits you .....
Hope all goes well with hte internaitonal life and race series.
Assume the business in UK is being well looked after?
If you don't have a perm base, I take it you are not amassing a collection of cars? Dubai has some serious metal so there would be much temptation after pocketing the proceeds from the Singer .....
Thanks, it’s much better than my gimp suit I have. Saying that I was 107kg when this was taken, I’m now around the 90kg mark so will need a new suit for this season, otherwise I’ll look like some teenager going for his first job interview who’s lent his fathers shirt haha. Hope all goes well with hte internaitonal life and race series.

I am getting a fair few cars whilst I’m in Dubai but it’s not what you’d expect.
My Purosange is currently sat at Stratstone Manchester waiting to be picked up alongside my 296 GTB and my soon to be delivered 296 GTS, 812 Competizione and SF90 XX.
I’m trying to work with Ferrari to see if I can do a swap and get them swapped at Ferrari Dubai. We will see.
But my day to day drive over there will be a GMC Yukon Denali. Love them, they’re so oversized it’s stupid.

Nice to see you back.
What got sold and what got kept in the end?
I sold the 430 Scud, 575M, Singer DLS and the Bentayga. What got sold and what got kept in the end?
However I replaced the Bentayga with another Bentayga, bought a Network Q winning Mini, bought the New Zealand winning Burns/Reid Subaru, and got a DB5 to replace the one that was stolen years ago.
Sooooooooo, not really doing to great to be honest haha

Why the change of mind on the DLS, I recall you saying you were a bit "underwhelmed" by the first one ?
This is true but it would have also been better if it worked properly and I had more time with the car, getting the next one in lhd will help a lot more with time spent in it. ThomW said:
No idea. A Lusso is around £1.5m, so given the extent of the work done on this I’d say £2m minimum. But does originality count with these? Is it devalued because of the mods?
I’ve spent quite a bit more than £500k getting her back to how she originally was. This is how she was from factory, it raced like this during the 60’s-90’s (lots of photos of it on the web from back in the day). I have just brought her back to how she originally was, the only difference I’ve done is added wider wheels from the GTO, the GTO gearbox (NOT CHEAP!!!!), and upgraded her to a 3.3 just like the 330 LMB. All of this can be easily reversed. Oh and I’ve taken out the plexiglass and added in real glass so I can take her out on the road and park up and leave her without stressing about someone breaking in and driving away.
Besides, I’ve decided I’m keeping all my classics now and they’ll be coming over to join me in Dubai. There’s a decent classic car culture here and this would just sent people crazy.

Great stuff. How is the car collection out there coming along pete?
I’m just working on launching my 2MC brand out there, bringing R5 rally cars to the Arab market plus helping Al Tayer Ferrari getting their classic Ferrari owners together to enjoy them a bit more especially around Yas and Dubai. Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
