Gawd dammit Swampy, how can you not know every car that’s ever been made, call yourself a petrolhead???
I’d be ashamed, now go and whip yourself 365 times whilst chanting the words “Daytona, Daytona, Daytona” each time haha.
Jeebus guys calm down on him, so he doesn’t know a car or two!!!!
There’s enough st going on in this world without our superiority complex’s getting in the way.
We’re all PH’ers here, let’s build each other up not knock ourselves down.
I have personally now enrolled on a self flagellation course at the alter of Ferrari. I’d be ashamed, now go and whip yourself 365 times whilst chanting the words “Daytona, Daytona, Daytona” each time haha.

Hows your hangry wife, has she told you to "get off your phone and get the AA here!" yet?
My eldest son Oscar was, last night, on about trading his Fiesta ST in for a 500 595 Abarth, which is a daft idea as he is an apprentice and cant really afford to run the Ford and then change it as well, its a daft idea but my wife, who has had 2 original 500s and has tried the modern ones thinks he would hate it as too small and she didnt like driving them when we went to Mangoletsi's.
I do think its not a great idea currently as the Ford is fairly similar in a lot of ways, being similar power, FWD, sporty, quite small etc and better the devil you know etc, plus, with the best will in the world it always costs to change cars.
However, I couldn't agree on that point that he would hate it and they arent fun, apparently saying "Theres a bloke locally who goes on Pistonheads who has a large fleet of supercars and classics, and one of his favourite cars is his Fiat 500 Abarth something or other", was not a helpful comment in that context !
Anyway, good luck with the broken car.

What went pop Pete? With my Clio I'm used to a lot of iffy noises and electrical dramas, just curious what the symptom was that plonked you at the side of the road... did it just conk out?
No problem if you would rather not say, just curious.
I bet the passers by assumed you were in a kit car! Did anyone pull over to offer assistance? I probably would have if I was driving past.

It died like Tommy Cooper, just like that, just like that. No problem if you would rather not say, just curious.

I had my brother behind me in my other Lusso as my back up car.
No, no one gave a st, they all just kept on about their business. Don’t blame them though really.
I’m in a trackie top, scruffy jeans and some dirty stty Nike’s. Probably thought I’d robbed it and the tracker had kicked in haha
Such a shame your day ended so soon - but that is a stunning car.
And the Daytona looks pretty good too (what am I saying, it looks fantastic)!
My all time favourite has to be the 275 GTB/4 though!
I just hope you and Mrs Pete were OK.
Going off-topic my Dad bought a 2 year old Fiat 125 from a bomb-site dealer in Balham in 1972. But the other side of the road there was a showroom with a J-plate Daytona for sale at £5,950 and I later found out he had more than enough stashed away to afford it. Then in 1975 he had a cerebral haemorrhage and was never able to stand up again - if only he had enjoyed the Daytona, however briefly!
I got his Fiat 125 in 1977 and used to drive him around in it, but it was never quite the same as when it was his.
Then many years later in 2006 I went to the Royal Albert Hall for an Eric Clapton concert, but I never saw it as I had a TIA in the gents - everyone thought I was off my face, but I couldn't even stand up. I was scared sh*tless as I knew how my Dad lived his last 13 years. Thankfully there was a good medical team and it ended up being just a blip.
But events like that do change your perspective!
Anyway this is a great thread, so I hope you allow us to keep living the dream vicariously!

Maybe as it was used for racing the Lusso might have had an electric fuel pump fitted rather than mechanical as they were originally - if so it needs to be on at all times and not just for starting. Sounds like a fuel flow issue to me
It does have an electric fuel pump fitted and it is on at all the times you’re correct. It’s definitely is a fuel flow problem, I’m thinking it has a lazy fuel pump and it needs a new one. Mr Tidy said:

Bloody hell your Dad sounded like a true fighter, sorry to hear about his haemorrhage. And sorry to hear about your ‘blip’ too. Are you better now?And the Daytona looks pretty good too (what am I saying, it looks fantastic)!

They were still an expensive car in 1972 though!!!! You could buy a 3 bed house for that. I’m sure he enjoyed his Fiat 125 though, probably more than he would have that Daytona. Trust me, I love my Fiat more than my Ferrari’s. Less headache haha.
Thanks for sharing your memories buddy.
Cheers

Thanks, it was a pretty grim time for our family but you just have to deal with it at the end of the day. They were still an expensive car in 1972 though!!!! You could buy a 3 bed house for that. I've had no issues since my blip, so count myself lucky every day!
But it has changed my approach to life, so when I got the chance to retire early I did - I just wish he had.
And he did enjoy his Fiat, just not enough. I did more miles with it than he did.
You're right though, he would never have felt comfortable driving a Ferrari!
Anyway, I'll look forward to the next instalment of your adventures - they are always a great read!
