Thanks everyone
As an update I’ve also spoke to James today and he’s going to be sourcing a 250 GTO gearbox and clutch plus the actual open gate shifter, plus 250 GTO blue comp seats. I’ve also asked to repaint the car in triple layer yellow to match my Speciale Aperta and Pista Spider, plus it’ll have the tricoloure stripe. The interior will be changed to black leather too as yellow paint with crema leather would just look wrong.
Who makes the engines Pete? Is it a brand new Ferrari engine built to that cars spec? I assume so. And how much power does it make? 275?As an update I’ve also spoke to James today and he’s going to be sourcing a 250 GTO gearbox and clutch plus the actual open gate shifter, plus 250 GTO blue comp seats. What an incredible project. Given their expertise and the fact there aren’t too many other people that could undertake that work I think that labour rate is really pretty good. £150k on a brand new race spec engine in a period Ferrari doesn’t actually sound too ridiculous....I’d have guessed more. From what I understand it’s pretty common now to take out the original....worth too much to the value of the car to risk racing.

You can't just drop in the biggest / most powerful Ferrari ^^^^^ engine into a classic racer and expect to be accepted
at period race meets.
I assume that's what the F40 engine post is about.
No you can’t, it has to be period correct, I’m dropping in an engine from a 1960’s Ferrari 330 LMB with a 250 GTO gearbox and clutch. And as someone previously said, most classic racers don’t use their original engine in fear of blowing it up under too much stress. at period race meets.
I assume that's what the F40 engine post is about.

What a fantastic project to undertake. When will you start racing Pete ? Goodwood etc ??
And there was me feeling all smug because I fitted a new coil to my car yesterday, and the old one is in perfect working order !!
Haha Andy I can imagine you going nuts whilst fitting that and finding out the original one was perfect. And there was me feeling all smug because I fitted a new coil to my car yesterday, and the old one is in perfect working order !!

Yep, change is good and I think it’ll look really nice, and if I don’t like then I can always just get it painted back to green. Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
