Thanks, someone at work the other day said they prefer my Focus to a Fusion that they recently bought. Now a month and 1200 miles in and so far no problems with it.

Evening all, the oil and filter has now been changed and another airhose for the turbo is on its way as the one on the car has been bodged at some point.

Another job to do now ASAP, the bonnet release catch has broken. Seems to be a common fault with MK2 Focuses (or should the plural be Foci?

With the help of one of my workmates I managed to get the bonnet open earlier, setting the car alarm off in the process lol. The lock for the bonnet is knackered so a new one has been ordered and will be fitted as soon as it arrives.

Today the Focus has done its first long run in my ownership, a 250 odd mile round trip up to Shildon and Barnard Castle. Here's a picture of it resting at Egglestone Abbey earlier.

Thanks funkyrobot. No, I haven't yet managed to trace the cause of the EML. How's your friends one running? I've done about 1600 miles so far in this one in 5 1/2 weeks.

Which engine has his got? Fords generally are easy to live with. One of my workmates has a Mk2 Focus on a 57 reg and really likes it, he gave me a gearknob out of a Mk2.5 that's now on this one and looks nicer IMO than the original one.

I can imagine it would be in February. Mine has the Sony stereo, much nicer than the Ford one, though I know Sony has been designing Ford stereos for the last 20+ years

I've been wondering if the EML is related to the hose, the new one has now arrived so I'll fit it when I have a bit of spare time.

Just to add I have a 56 reg petrol Focus (not an estate) in the same colour, now pushing 160k miles.

The bonnet latch did give in, fortunately for me at the garage, so I did the honourable thing and asked them to fix it, I have heard stories of people just smashing their way in. It is needed as mine likes a frequent drink of oil.
Which engine has yours got? I've heard stories of people smashing their way in too, fortunately we managed to get the grill out without breaking anything although as I say the alarm went off, just as well everyone ignores them we must have looked really dodgy lol.

Quite a few people have said that the 1.8tdci engines are bulletproof. I believe it is one of the last lower timing chain ones from what a friend who works at a garage has told me.

Hi, mines the petrol 1.6 NA non variable timing engine. (the variable timing engines have a rather large lump on the valve covers.)

I would not recommend the engine for power (it could definitely do with some more go) but I would say am impressed with the abuse the engine puts up with - stone cold engine, full throttle manoeuvrers by SWMBO, once warmed up the rev limiter is abused by me.

One thing I would add, the (nicely heated) windscreen washer jets leak when it rains, and this fills up the area around the plugs with water, causing grief. (I bought some silicone to fix this problem 4 years ago, the silicone is probably dry in the tube now.)

When changing headlight bulbs (an annual job for me) it is very easy to just pull the entire unit forward, change the bulb, and slide the entire unit back again.
Glad to hear yours is going well. I was surprised just how much easier changing headlight bulbs is on the Focus compared to the Fiesta I had before. SWMBO hasn't driven the Focus yet (the engine is too big for her laugh)

They put a it a belt in oil? Hardly seems sensible to me. Mine is June 07 registered so will be one of the last with the chain. Thanks for the link.

Ford seem to have changed the Etis site as well, it's only limited information without signing in. Any Ford salesmen able to get me a build date for it please?

Just under 2000 miles added so far. Hopefully the EML will be getting investigated this week by one of my workmates with his laptop. The other job to do soon is get the front tyres changed before the bad weather sets in. They are legal but will need doing soon.

SWMBO had the chance to drive it over the weekend due to her Corsa being VOR but won't as it's too big apparently

First update of 2019, not much to report really. Now approaching 3000 miles since purchase. I'll be getting the front tyres changed this month, just looking round at the moment for prices. I'd prefer Avons again as they were usually what I put on the Fiesta.
