That's not bad! I've just looked up my cambelt bill, that one came to 554.23, but no water pump or aux belt.

I then for a laugh added the rest of the invoices I could find. I know I am missing at least £500 of invoices.
Car bought in 2013, 89k miles, £3k.
Invoices in hand. £7.5k.
Car value now, £100.00

Today's bill is the most expensive I have ever had for any car, saying that though apart from today all it has cost me is 3 headlight bulbs, a wiper blade, 2 tyres, the rear brakes, headlamp adjustment, coolant hose repair and turbo hose so about £1500 in repairs etc in 10 months and 13000 miles, not bad for a 12 year old car with nearly 187k on the clock.

I've got to say mate that's not that bad for a car with that mileage!!!!
I've just changed the brake fluid, aux belt and drivers front wing after it rusted out at the bottom on mine, just approaching 125k now, I thought it had more on it till I checked during the week, it's Mrs Bobbers car so I rarely drive it!!!!

Mrs Eyersey was hoping I would sell the Focus and keep the recently acquired stopgap Matiz, she seems to prefer that car, think she was a bit shocked on learning of yesterday's bill lol.

Focus clicked over 187k earlier, running much better since the service. Where can I get some heat proof paint from for the sump?

Halfords engine paint, it's what I used when I discovered my sump was very flaky, rubbed the rust down to find that the sump was still sound, liberal amounts of Bilt Hamber and two top coats of Halfords engine paint, been fine for the last two years, in answer to your question about our Focus aux belt slipping, I don't know!!! frown I've replaced the tensioner, the idler and the alternator pulley extension assembly and the bugger still insists on slipping under full boost in third, fourth and fifth gears!!! grumpy

Thanks Bobberoo99, I'll get some the next time I'm in Halfords. That's odd about the aux belt on yours.

No problem Eyersey, I'm struggling to find out what is actually driven by the aux belt, Google just throws up loads of rubbish about aux belts and the same diagram that's in the Haynes manual, which shows the configuration but doesn't list what it goes around!! frown

No such thing as a high mileage ford without some bills!

Seems a large bill for the timing belt though if it was just the top one.

My 1.8 mondey just ticked over 120K, think the last 20K has cost be about 2K in repairs laugh

It wasn't just the timing belt that was done, there was the full service, sump etc. that got done as well. That £900+ includes VAT, that was over £100.

I've just done a quick Google and as far as I can tell the aux belt drives the alternator.

And Power Steering Pump, and on some engines the water pump - otherwise this is driven by the timing belt.

The AC is driven by its own separate belt.

On the our car the aux belt goes from the tensioner, under a pulley (this is the one I'm unsure of) over the alternator pulley, down and around the air con pulley, back up over an idler, back down under the crank pulley and up and over an idler on the tensioner.

Sounds quite a complicated route it takes. I wonder if the pulley you are unsure of is to do with the power steering then based on what Peanut Gallery said.

Ok, so I've discovered that the errant pulley is in fact the water pump, this would indicate that it's on it's way out as apparently the noise of the bearing failing can be confused with the belt slipping!! frown

At least you have found out what it was, think my water pump was about £50 plus fitting etc.

Fingers crossed you have a cheap fix Bobberoo99, and may your car give you many more years of service! Now that you mention water pump bearing failing, I should have picked up on that being the cause of noise at higher revs.

Question if you don't mind Eyersey, or anyone.. If you start with some rod knock, how much longer do these engines last?

I've just driven 12 miles and think it's getting worse, but cannot tell really.
(I've filled it with 10/40 oil to give the bearings some help)

Cheers PG, i've had a quote from the garage i always use for £204 supply and fit water pump, it's only 1.5 hrs labour but the coolant and disposal are £40 of that!!!
Hhhhmmm what makes you think it's rod knock? Don't normally hear of these 1.8TDCI's suffering from that, what engin's in yours? They suffer with DMF failure, lower torque mounts going cause horrid vibration, and the drivers side engine mounts collapse, i've done all of these on mine, engine mount and lower torque mount very easy and done on the drive, DMF, clutch, release bearing and master cylinder an eye watering £830!!!!
