Turns out it's the gearbox mounting not a spring, just under £150 to replace

Apparently the mounting is called a dog bone gearbox mount, presumably it is the shape of a dog bone

Wouldn't happen to be the one at the rear of the gearbox would it? What size engine is yours?
Yeah I think it was the one at the back of the gearbox. Mines the 1.8tdci

Apparently it was hanging by a thread. At least it's sorted now so hopefully can start piling the miles on again. Working in Scarborough today, it's the longest run the car has had all year due to the lockdowns

Gave the Focus a much needed wash and tidy out inside earlier on, looks nicer when it's clean.

First long run of the year yesterday, a 400 mile round trip to Northumberland to see family. Clicked over 210k on the run up.

Was talking to my neighbour yesterday, he took his old A3 up to 286k, it was written off when someone rear ended him on the M27!!!
Good to hear your Focus is still going strong!!!
Thanks Bobbers I intend to keep it running for as long as possible, its a good dependable car. I hope Peanut and your Focus are both ok

MOT booked for the 24th along with an oil and filter change. Also reached 211112 miles today, no picture as I was doing 70 on the A63 at the time

That's some good going, well done!

Fingers crossed for mot, but I don't think you will need it, just might have to clear the warning light on the dash less than a drive cycle before mot.

I'm a you youngun now, managed to miss 73333.7 miles, but they are climbing on nicely!
Thanks. Fortunately being an 07 reg diesel the EML is advisory only. Haven't done as many miles so far this year as I would normally have done through January through to March being written off, however I have a few long trips planned for the summer.

MOT failed, needs a new n/s/f suspension arm. Not too bad considering the age and mileage of the car

Thanks I'll see what the garage say. Could explain why the steering wobbled at high speed, I had wondered if there was a problem with a tyre or wheel.

I think the clutch is on the way out as its biting very high and won't stall if the pedal is lifted with it in gear and the engine running. Anyone any idea roughly how much a replacement clutch will be? There's no sign of it slipping

Depends entirely on where you go Eyersey, first Focus cost us £845 for DMF, clutch and slave cylinder, i went to a specialist who only does clutches and gearboxes for the one in Rio the Rioja Racing slug and that was £685 for the same, and they used LUK comps!!!
Thanks Bobberoo

Focus is in for new tyres today. I am at a crossroads though, do I pay out to get the clutch done with a view to keeping it 2-3 more years or bite the bullet and upgrade now?

The clutch isn't slipping yet but I suspect won't last much longer.

I hear you, I kept doing one more repair thinking that was the last and I had a sorted Focus. And one more repair. And one more repair. And one more thing to live with.

However, you seem to have a sorted rest of a car, and not much in the way of rust.

Do you enjoy driving it? - Engaging to drive?

Although I really enjoy driving the much newer S-Max, it just gets the job done, the steering is just smooth, the engine pulls, but you just feel sort of dis-connected.
I do enjoy the car, it drives really nicely and there isn't much else wrong with it that I am aware of, just a slight oil and coolant leak which could be coming from anywhere so just something to keep an eye on at the moment. I have been advised on another forum I am on to get the clutch done as it would be a shame to see a good car die for want of a clutch.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The garage are preparing me a quote for the clutch so I'll make a decision when they give me it.

I should have a quote for the clutch by Monday. Having given the matter a lot of careful thought I am more likely to be sticking with the Focus than not.

Garage has quoted £623 including VAT, labour etc which isn't too bad considering. Surprisingly according to their supplier it has a solid flywheel not a DMF.
