They do seem to like eating them, I went to the Halfords coated for fog and rain ones, haven't blown since and they're very good in drizzle and fog!!!

Thanks Bobberoo99 I'll have a look at them. That's 3 headlight bulbs in 9 months, at least it's only bulbs it eats and nothing expensive lol.

Well it appears to have done the usual Mk2 Focus trick with the dashboard. No lights on that shouldn't be or weren't already but all the gauges have started overreading. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Fear not, for there is an easy fix!

Each time you start the car they will drop down a little, so unless you really need an accurate speedo just ignore it. If you need an accurate speedo you could start the car multiple times for 30 seconds or so.

Another option is a dash check. Press and hold reset button on the indicator stalk, keep holding it in. Turn the ignition on, but don't start. When the dash says test you can release the button. Pressing the button scrolls through the options.

What rear brakes do you have? Drum or disk?

I've now reset the gauges, the rev counter still overreads a bit but can live with that

Give it a couple of starts, the gauge will come down.

Thanks for the info on your brakes, I have a set up of rear brake shoes going free for anyone who wants them, plus some touch up paint for that light blue colour.

If you want anything off a similar trim car please shout, mine is going to the car park in the sky soon.

Thanks Peanut Gallery. Sorry to hear about yours. What are you replacing it with?

No worries, I find as with anything you know when the time comes to say goodbye. It has cost me very little to keep going, the odd £500 MOT and a couple of tyres.
It now has :-
Engine oil eating engine, and cooked cat converter,
Cambelt roulette,
Clutch on its last legs,
AC "needs a re-gas" and is noisy,
Steering leaks and is noisy,
Rust taking serious hold - welcome to Scotland!
Front suspension gone - again,
Rear brakes warped - again,
Exhaust gone - again,
Wheel bearing gone - again,
Starter motor temperamental,
Bodywork and paint getting very tatty - thanks city drivers using it as a bump-stop.
As well as now being too small for us. I think the time has come!

We are in the need of 2 rear facing child seats with a tall lanky person driving, so thinking S-Max, or Verso, or Galaxy, or Outlander. Underwhelmed by the Zafira, plus the wife can only drive certain cars, and I DO NOT want anything French.

S Max is a good shout, one of my colleagues used to have one and loved it.

Car booked in at the garage for a service and cambelt replacement at the end of August. Running fine. As its going to be off the road for 2-3 days I'm torn between buying a cheapie to tide me over or hiring a car.

My car is for sale! (though it would have to be transported down to you, that wheel bearing is getting louder)

If you can find a rust free cheapy, go for it! - the whole issue of hire cars etc when you could buy your own car and do whatever you want!
