The car is still here! Just over a year of ownership at this point. Over 20k miles in now.

I had a horrible noise whilst driving, problem appeared to be a lack of rear diff oil. Not ideal, especially as I’ve had it replaced. Blend motors have decided to give me grief, too. Other than that, it has been going well. Not sure what the future holds, we shall see.

No, it is just missing its ball hitch (it came with it, just no bolts). I'll put it on for some added protection if I can find some bolts.

Loved this thread!

I bought a MY2000 4.6 Autobiography for £850 a few months ago. It's got 192k on it and isn't exactly a show car. A friend and I were going to keep it for a few weeks for a specific trip but I now love it too much to get rid of it. I've overhauled the whole EAS so its perfect again. I've done the front diff, VCU, front wheel bearings and CV joints up front as well as fixed a load of bodywork and electrical gremlins. I might even fix some of the oil leaks one day...

They are a joy to work on though. Everything in easy reach and nothing to complex or hideously expensive to replace!

I'm currently hunting down a car that's been laid up for a couple of years.

I'm going to see it on Tuesday at which time I'll decide if I can swallow a big enough brave pill.

It was laid up due to the air suspension failing and the owner bought a spring conversion kit but hasn't got around to fitting it yet so I can buy with or without the kit. Probably a £300 difference.

I know it's a 4.0 HSE on a 51 plate with 136K on the clock and was in regular use prior to the air suspension giving up.

Any advice welcome.

Oh, I'm quite willing to wield spanners and am hoping my wife will fall in love with it to use as her daily in place of the 2007 Jazz that she doesn't like driving as it's an "old lady's car"

ETA: I believe it has a gas kit fitted and working.

Mmmm that looks like a nice one. Fwiw, I’d stick with air suspension if you can.

I REALLY have to take the dash out and get the matrix o-rings sorted, as the leak is quite bad. That's the next job!
I know you've already done yours but for anyone else in the same boat you don't need to remove the dash to replace the O rings, non-dealers found a way around that level of labour many years ago (mine were replaced in about 2007 without doing the dash)

Here's the procedure

From memory I was billed 3hrs by my local mechanic I seem to recall

As soon as it arrived I ordered a new battery. On the advice of a friend I went with a Hankook MF31-1000 - It's a big bugger (knife for scale)

Used EKA, turned the key and I thought, "what's that noise?" The bugger only started immediately. No churning or anything. yikes

Been stood 2-3 years and fires first turn of the key. Next think I know it's switched over and running on gas.

Mightily impressed.

I’ve just bought this. 4.0 V8. 145k miles but very good service history and everything works or has been repaired so it does. Few niggles like when I put £130 petrol in it, a couple of litres leaked onto the station forecourt. However, great old car and so far, only one week in, I’m enjoying it. My local LR indie who I’ve known for years has told me any P38 purchase is foolish so I’m taking it down there to change his mind. We shall see.
