Toyota BB - rare JDM box on wheels
Discussion
I usually have a decent eye for this stuff, must be the product designer side! So, tentatively, trust me I have photoshopped them on in some down time in work and the results were good
Also on the weekend I took the plunge and set about removing the old nasty 2 part sun strip from the inside of the windscreen...
Ever start a job and instantly regret it? I peeled the film off and it left a layer of adhesive ghosted across the entire width of the windscreen! cue 2 hours with a rag andf a bottle of snowboard base cleaner (citrus oil basically), scrubbing it all off.
All off now (satisfying), and ready for a much neater replacement. I am probably going to head over to the local window tinting place and get them to do a sun strip in the same dark tint to match the factory windows on the back of the car.
Driving with no sunstrip is challenging at this time of year with windows that the popemobile would be proud of!! The fold down visors leave some huge gaps!!

New wheel day on saturday, closely followed by "breakfast and boxes" meet on Sunday, a good weekend all round.
Very pleased with the new wheels, more in line with the look i'm going for with the car long term. I went with Nexen Nblue HDs in the end, seem a pretty decent budget tyre so far.
Good drive down to Andover and the Too Fast Too Filling cafe, for Breakfast and Boxes meet on the sunday. Cube's outnumbering the bBs 2 to 1, but still a good showing all round.

Treated the bB with a little facelift before show season. Much needed Sun strip fittes, crazy how much curve there is in the windscreen for a square car.
Also had the grill powdercoated black to break up the wall of silver at the front of the car, really pleased with the result.
Roll on Japfest!

The bB had it's first show this weekend gone... despite feeling utterly sick with a chest infection I was detirmined to soldier on and make the day. Very glad we did, as usual Japfest SIlverstone didn't disappoint, and seems to get biigger year on year.
Didn't get lost or sunburnt this year, which was also a major plus!
Obligatory entry shot, with my enthusiastic OH riding shotgun. bB was a pleasure to road trip in as usual, and seemed to generate some interest and quizzical looks... thinking of getting a giant sticker on it somewhere... "IT'S NOT A NISSAN CUBE"
JDMCombe next, and i've got some parts coming over from Japan for it, watch this space.

How have I only just discovered this thread!
Car is awesome mate, and like where you're going with it. Could definitely do with dropping slightly for a slightly more aggressive look.
I'm going to be looking for a daily in a year or so, so the accord can become a summer/weekend car. You've got me looking at these for the price and practicality!
Maybe see you at JDMCombe if you're still planning on going?
p.s. the beard is also awesome.

Yep I'll be at Combe
Fully recommend a bB, it's a great little car, actually got my eye on picking up a second one for the missus when she gets her UK licence.
BCracing do a set of coilovers for them, so that's on the wishlist, they look brilliant lowered.
Originally I was looking at the Toyota Blade Master G (3.0 V6 Auto in a hatchback if you've not seen them). Spoke to TGT though and a I'd be looking at around £6k for a fresh landed one, which a bit over my budget for a daily.Fully recommend a bB, it's a great little car, actually got my eye on picking up a second one for the missus when she gets her UK licence.

Under £3k for one of these seems a no brainer, plus double up as a bit of a van and a camper as you say. Love it.
Get on it mate, you won't regret it. Look for the "Toyota BB UK" FB group, thats where i bought mine, and some nice ones come up for sale at decent money. There's a nice purple one on ebay at the moment, but it's a good grand overpriced.
They are good for 150bhp on standard internals if you get bored and want to supercharge it, same kit as the Yaris T sport. Would be fairly quick as it weighs the same as a mk2 mx5.

Something pretty and JDM cropped up, and I just couldn't resist.
HKS Hiper SS back box. Brand new in the original box with all the original certificates. A relative steal at £250, and pretty rare in it's own right.
Should be getting fitted in a week or so, but for now it's sat in the living room looking shiny!

I don't, it's supplied as just the backbox ... I've spoken to another couple of owners that say it's a nice and easy straight fit onto the OEM mid pipe though using the existing clamp, and presumably has been designed as such. Going to hand it over to my tame mechanic next week to get it fitted up.
Ordered a fresh V-band clamp and gasket from Toyota in case the exisitng ones disintergrate, ordered today, arriving tomorrow... it's handy that it shares so many parts with the Yaris!

150bhp. Crikey. That would be lively. What about the gearbox? I've got visions of an intricate, delicate, watch-like thing being shredded...They are good for 150bhp on standard internals if you get bored and want to supercharge it, same kit as the Yaris T sport. Ran the bB over to my local Honda specialist and generally helpful chaps, Dream Automotive, yesterday lunchtime to have the backbox fitted.
Couldn't have been easier, nothing was siezed, and it was a 10 minute job to fit. It was just as well in the end that I sourced a new exhaust clamp/gasket and bolts as the old ones did break on removal... not too surprising on a 20 year old car with the original exhaust.
Very very pleased with the fitment, may as well be OEM, the backbox sits perfectly and there was no adjustment needed, I guess that's where your money goes when spending on big name JDM stuff like HKS.
Sounds great too- nice and quiet on idle, with a pleasant rising burble once you put your foot down. I haven't done any carriageway driving yet, but I can't see it being droney at all. Pretty much suits the car perfectly, mid-sport sound without being obnoxious or "too much" for the little car.
Coilovers next I think, although that may need to wait until next year.
