Great effort, what is the thinking with the rear buckets? Do tracks even let you take more than 1 passenger?
No, they don't.

But then they would just be there because "light" and "to get everybody to the track". Also I assume "because looks fun".

OP what's the thoughts on ditching the air suspension completely and going over to coils?

I know a lot of the classic RR's that had air we're often converted to coils. I'm in the process of putting my old one back to air and there's a significant amount of weight in the tank, valve block & pump so I can imagine in an L322 there's probably even more weight to be saved as the struts themselves must also weight a fair bit.

A quick google spotted stuff like this

I know that's the sensible option, but I love the idea of turning up at the track in a high riding range rover, grabbing the track wheels and tools out the back... Then 10 minutes with a whiz gun and a laptop later and you have a decked, slick shod track car.

This thread is pretty interesting. Suggests that an S-Type V6 diesel box can be made to fit to the AJV8 (albeit the 4.0) without too much fettling. Obviously that doesn't take account of the 4wd system but hey, who needs 4wd hehe

Thanks for this! Im sure we will look into it at some point!

We want to keep it road legal to take to car shows and just generally enjoy and being able to go out with all 3 of us is a plus. It would also be nice to take some people out for passenger rides and finally, I believe you are aloud rear passengers at the ring….I’m sure we will end up there one day.

Im sure we will go there at some point, but for now air is the cheap and easy option to get the car low. Our challenge is to find a coil set up that’s low (ideally without just cutting springs), X5 front coil overs look like they might fit with minimum modification and would allow us to tune damping and spring rates but we might have to think a little harder about the rear.

Here is some more (and better) photos of the bucket seats & dash. We are really happy with them.

The smaller steering wheel really transforms diving the car, one tiny step towards nimble.....

Would that dashboard pass an MOT?

Excellent thread by the way!

Top job!

Obviously it depends on driver height/visibility and steering column adjustments, but is there anything else you can do to get the seats (and thus driver) lower? Could help with C of G a bit?

Passenger seat could be dropped almost to the floor smile

Having removed most of the dashboard why not the door-panels, complete with speakers with heavy magnets?

Makes a tremendous noise now, and it does look a lot faster as well. Have you worked out how much weight has been shaved off so far? Or have I missed it written down somewhere?

Yes, I was thinking that too!

But if you dropped the passenger seat to the floor I don't think I'd want to be a passenger on track - you wouldn't be able to see out of the windows! eek

This thread is just getting better all the time. thumbup

Hey All!

We haven't had much chance to work on the car this week.

The only thing we have managed to do is to wire up our switch to the air suspension relay. What this now allows us to do, is to kill power to the air suspension system with a simple switch on the dash. This means we can now drive around in access height all day without fear of the car raising as soon as we go over 30mph.

We have also planned a couple of outings with the beast. We are going to take the car to "caffeine and machine" this Friday afternoon, its a really cool place and really recommend a visit if your in the midlands.

Hoping to also take it out on our next track day to mallory park on the 24th on march (not booked yet but we are very likely to go)
