L835JCF will be taken away by the assessors tomorrow. Likely to be its last day with me. Will await the report. I'd rather not break the car myself to be honest. I think I'll prefer to remember it at its best, as per this photo. Happy memories.

I saved it from the scrapyard, I figure it saved me in return.

Thanks for the interest, thoughts and appreciation everyone. This thread has been a comfort over the last few days. I suspect they'll be another Audi thread in a few months time.

All the best, drive safe out there.

Cheers,

Drew.

Such a shame.

But out of the classic cars to have a crash in it was probably one of the safer ones.

Very sorry to see your news, but equally glad that you were OK. Fingers crossed that the other driver gets their collar felt for this....

The Audi 80 went this morning. Sad end for a great car, but I'm grateful to be alive. Thanks and fondly remembered L835JCF.

Cheers,

Drew.

Sad news, I am glad you're OK. I see it as a positive Procon 10 still worked. It could have been a different accident in which Procon 10 would've been of greater benefit with regard to occupant safety.

The Lotus badge on the MX-5 made me smile.

With regard to comparisons with the MX-5, a PHer recently had an M25 shunt with a truck in one:

Genuinely gutted for you and the car but glad everyone is safe and sound.

It had it's last run as a showcar in the VW dealer and was treated very well by yourself, it'll be thankful as you were to it when it protected you.

Shame to see an 80 go but glad it did it's job with aplomb.

Wow - glad they walked away ok too and the Mx-5 did its thing keeping them safe. I do think the ProCon Ten is a clever idea, in someways better than the steering wheel airbag anyway.

The badge is actually an 'Eunos' badge crafted in the Lotus colours, though the little green machine is often talked about as 'the Lotus' by the not so cognescenti. Everyone round here with their leased/HP modern motors assumes it some exotic classic car wink

My Mk1 Mx-5/Roadster has its own Reader's Car thread over here > https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Cheers,

Drew.

Ah, the ProCon 10 going off will write it off permanently as it rips the mounting points.

At least it had one last 'tour of duty' and created some memories for you and your dad!

Gutted to see it end this way, but that day out at the dealers made it all worthwhile. My immaculate Audi S2 Avant met a similarly annoying end, the bloke who bought it broke it for parts a few months after buying it off me, there was nothing wrong with it but in parts they were worth more at the time.
This was the day I sold it, very rare in Pearl Blue frown
Somewhere I have an annoying photo of it as a bare shell

Think of it this way, your S2 saved the lives of other S2’s, like a sort of heart donor. Gone as a hero.

While I may have previously come across as dismissive of your efforts, it's undeniable that you put considerable time and energy into this project.

A great shame to see it end like this.

Just seen the update on this via your TT one.

Remember reading it earlier in the year and greatly enjoying. So sorry to hear how it ended but glad you’re ok. Hopefully the other driver will get done for leaving the scene of an accident.

As a kid in 1984 (ish?) I went to the 80 launch, I did have a pin somewhere I was given to commemorate it, so had a soft spot for them.

Best wishes for the TT.

Thanks everyone!

Insurance called to confirm the car was indeed written off (Cat C). Payout was good though. I had written them a letter about the car, with pictures and so on, but was surprised to hear I would get a payment of £1,950 for it.

So, despite all the drama, I didn't end up out of pocket.

No news from the police yet - will chase them up next week.

Cheers,

Drew.
