They were supplied as fitting BMW and look like E21/E30 thread from eye. If you're passing ARM anytime feel free to take a look.

On route to Bristol airport I managed to pick up the 6” Minilite and am really chuffed with them.

Bagged some 205 Avon in an effort to make sure I can maximise potential grip.

I’ve got all 4 Cibié sorted now too.

Beautiful car OP, I like how you're mixing modern with original. I'm looking forward to seeing the end result!

It just my opinion, but I think that the Cibes distract from the clean look of the front....

I think I would have gone with OEM lights ( but as you say they are very hard to find ) and possibly fit some modern LED H4 bulbs in them: I did this in a Fiat Punto Sporting which had H4s, and they were amazing bulbs ( although perhaps a bit controversial unless they are set up correctly!)

I think there is a company that advertises in the Classic Car mags that specialises in retro fitting modern lighting in older cars.. that may help you.

Apologies if this seems a a bit critical but it's just a personal opinion !

Great thread and following with interest.

A friend has a 1602 : it's a Colorado Orange (?) round tail light model that is running, but is all original as he does not like to modify his cars !

I take your point (and I’m totally fine with differing opinions) but my aim has always to build an 02 version of my old E30 M3. The light pod I fitted to that certainly divided opinion but I loved it. It also made night time driving way more fun and certainly safer. I live down in Cornwall and the lanes can be super dark. I really like the classic rally look too.

I think you may have needed an extra battery to power those lights on the M3....!!

They worked perfectly. All I did was make sure the alternator was in good order (along with the battery) and they’d been properly installed with their own circuit as opposed to just being spliced into the main beams or something.

I have just looked and I see that Cibie now do LED spotlights, which would be a far lower load on the alt/battery - ideal for an old car if the styling is still suitable.

To be honest I only really want period lights and the old Oscar are just about perfect.

The LSD arrived today. smile

I need to send the casing off to be powder coated and there's a mod to be done to the aperture before the new unit can go in.

I nabbed a set of front struts to ship off to Gaz for the conversion to coilovers. As a result I can now sell the Bilstein set-up my 02 has been running till now.

The final thing I need are some front brake callipers and I'm hoping there are some turbo spec' 4 pots coming my way. The best thing about those are that they'll fit beneath my 13'' rims and despite their meagre size 02 brakes are pretty good when you have them working properly.

Cam cover turned out OK and just needs the coating removed from the top of the lines.

The transformation from scabby OE suspension to fully adjustable, shiny and new has begun.

Meanwhile, I'm having to work from home and to try and keep automotive day dreaming to a minimum. smile

Despite C-19 my coilovers are coming along nicely...

After machining the spindles...

Just searching for some E21 trailing arms to add rear disc brakes but also as I'm thinking they should be considerably stronger? The alternative is that I could box the OE arms instead?

Looks stunning mate! Always had a soft spot for these, and old Beemers in general really. I used to have an E30 318iS with the twin cam M42 (yes, I do regret selling it), completely OEM engine wise but ran so smooth, and with the 4.10 LSD it went surprisingly well.

Looking forward to more updates !

I had a 318is that I gave to my late step son Jim. We both loved that car and as you say, the M42 is a cracking engine. I also had one in my old E21 track car, with a dogleg box and 4:1 LSD. It used to pound around Brands Hatch all day and never missed a beat. So much fun. smile

My M20 flywheel and starter arrived today as well. smile The flywheel needs a little machining so I may as well lose a little more weight from it at the same time. I'm about to go online shopping for a new clutch although a stock E30 325 one should be fine as the M44 won't be that much more than an M20 325 makes and the 02 is significantly lighter.

I think we are just about there with regard to parts now. The adjustable front top mounts are in the post and although I want to upgrade the brakes there's no urgency as the stock ones are pretty good, so long as everything is working as it should. I may as well upgrade the pads to something like Hawk though?

Weather like todays sunshine really makes me miss having the 02 on the drive. I can't wait for it to be finished and ready to use.

Glad you enjoyed it. I like forum as a way of documenting car builds and there are a few on PH that have inspired me over the years.

In between working from home I'm trying not to get too distracted looking for alloy brake reservoirs and strut braces! smile

Or old school race car liveries...

Or other 02's with just the perfect ride height...

Or thinking back to this time last year when mine was still in one bit...

Finally made some progress with the fuel rail on the ITB thanks to making use of the Z3 that I robbed for it's engine. Everything was spaced perfectly and there is just some final fettling needed now. The good thing is everything is OE BMW so decent quality. I just need to sort the fuel line and the vacuum hose for the servo. Overall though, I'm pretty happy with how it's all starting to look. Once everything comes back out and is powder coated it should look pretty sweet.

Ideally I'd like the block like this eventually.

Keeping an eye on the future, I managed to secure a genuine Matter roll cage. I'm thinking I'll most likely go with the ''pig cheek'' arch kit then also.
