Well I for one, am looking forward to you making an epic journey in it. I’m quite exited about being able to see it in the metal.
Having said that, we’ve been talking about a Cornish holiday after the Boris bans, so maybe I’ll see it flying past smile

Thanks. Yes, I'm pretty excited at the prospect of finally getting to enjoy the thing on the road. There are some great videos in prospect too! I'm also hoping to do a european road trip that'll include the Nurburgring and Spa eventually.

Well the throttle pedal is still proving to be a bit of a pain in the arse so I have had to strip out the floor mounted pedal box and replace the numerous plastic bushes and return spring. Quite how they can justify nigh on £30 for a tiny bit of plastic is beyond me but hopefully it'll do the trick? I'm also putting a new return spring on the bulkhead although I don't want the pedal to be too stiff.

The new washer on the oil pressure sender appears to have cured the leak. I hope so anyway, as the timing chain covers are notorious for leaking if the gaskets aren't 100% perfect, or so I am told anyway. Replacing those will mean stripping out a lot stuff to do the job again but I don't want any leaks having spent out refreshing the M44.

Under the title of ''annoyingly expensive and aggravating jobs that I'm trying to put off for now'' is the need for a new ignition switch and a boot lock. Ideally I'd like new but they're bloody expensive and even if I can find used, I run the risk of them being as knackered as the ones I have. I must admit, I would like the idea of new locks but I was thinking of using a quick release steering wheel, as I did on my old E30 M3. I figured it would be harder to pinch if you couldn't steer the thing.

I've also been looking at potential road trips next year. I'd really love to take the 02 down into Spain or Italy. When I was a mere 22 year old I took my '62 Zephyr 6 Executive (4 speed manual column change) to the Costa Brava. It never broke down once and people were amazed to see that I'd taken it all that way. laugh It was such an adventure and I have great memories of that time and my ex who went with me.

My '62 Zephyr.

I want to disguise the chequer plate foot rest by painting it black too. I hate chequer plate in cars for some reason.

The 02 back in Greece.

I'm still undecided about the spotlights but realistically the stock headlights are abysmal so need all the help they can get.

I need to sort insurance soon, as my old insurers didn't like the engine swap.

It's a temp' throttle pedal, or at least the flat bit is as i'm waiting on the new rubber pedal itself, which is floor hinged with a slot and roller bush on the rear.

This isn't from my car but you get the idea...

You had me worried for a second. I really should read things properly before looking at pictures.

Always found some Osram Silver bulbs improve old BMW's lights.
May not compare to the additional lights you have planned for foggy winter lanes, but cheap temp fix until decision made?

Like many others I am looking forward to you running it through its paces on the road.

So the pedal on the left (with the holes in it and really dodgy looking welds) is the clutch!

Unless these have a mirrored pedal layout

Sorry but I just don't get the point you're trying to make? As it says above, that pedal (yes it is just tacked on as it'll be coming off when the new pedal finally arrives and that small plate isn't structural) is the accelerator and all 3 pedals are floor hinged. The first picture is just upsidedown.

I'm blind. Didn't catch the upside down pic! Now I see biggrin

Forgot that they loved a floor-hinged pedal, that was one thing that made my E36 feel mega slow to go anywhere was the reluctance of the pedal to be in any way sporty.

I must admit the floor hinged pedal thing was one of the reasons I particularly wanted a LHD car. It reminds me of early Porsche but I appreciate they can be an acquired taste and take a bit of getting used too. smile

The throttle pedal is a bit of a pain, as it has a slot on the rear and a roller on the piece that comes through the floor. The pedal push fits on to a pair of pips on the floor itself and whilst I'm sure they worked fine in 1972 they're way past their best today. I might just fit a Group A pedal like I had in my E30 M3? What I really want it someone who good with fabricating stuff from aluminium. It's only the throttle pedal that's delaying a proper first drive. frown

Managed to snag myself a more shallow boss for the steering wheel today. I have a couple of choices but want to fit one with a larger diameter of around 360mm or thereabouts. I've never been a fan of smaller steering wheels on 02's and they just feel way more nimble and responsive with a larger wheel fitted. It also gives me a good excuse to head over and see how the throttle pedal repair is coming along. smile

Well the steering wheel issue still isn't sorted but hopefully I will have the 02 back home any day now. The throttle pedal needs to go back in and I need to sort the garage floor out, as well as get rid of some of the crud taking up space. It's not exactly huge in there anyway so space is at a premium.

It's a long shot but if anyone has a steering wheel (aftermarket and 15 inch minimum) and a rear cage, please drop me a line.

One of the benefits of buying a left hooker is bits like this can be more likely to crop up...

Unfortunately you've jumped the gun there as I've not bought anything. These pics are from the chap on FaceBook who's having them fabricated in the coming months and the car itself is still in the workshop it's been in for the past 18 months.

If I remember correctly, it was your choice before the problem with the engine, to do a M44 swap, so I am not the one responsible for the 18 months in the shop.
From my side I did what I have to do. Just a reminder since you do not answer my messages, that you may say anything you want, but before that you have to settle things out.
