Time for another update .

I got round to finally getting a full Geo set up done on the car that i have been planing on for some time and got this all done with Balance Motorsport in Henfield West Sussex .

The front can be adjusted but the rear is a fixed beam so there is no adjustment you can do but i am running fixed camber plates at the rear .

The setting i have gone for are below

Front camber - 3.01

Rear camber fixed but should be around - 2.00

Front toe 0.01

This will give me a good base to start from and i can look to adjust the settings to suit in the future .

Next track day is all booked for the 28/09/20 at Thruxton .

It will be my first time here and will be good to see how the car and me get on as the last track day was on the very tight low speed Lydden Hill .

Looking forward to it and will report back on how we got on .

Going on from the Geo set up i have been back up to Balance motorsport to have the car weighed and fully corner weighted .

First up was how much the car weighs .

The official weight of the car from Ford is 1,163 Kg .

The car has had the rear seats removed but that is about it and is running a half roll cage , lots of bracing and a few more thing that will add a bit of weight .

The car was weighed with a full tank of fuel and 20 Kg in the drivers seat .

The car now weighs 1,225 Kg so taking out the 20 Kg from the driver seat the car is only 42 Kg heavier with all the extra bits the car is running so im happy with that .

Below are the settings the car is now running and the corner weights .

Looking forward to seeing how the car feels with the new Geo settings and the corner weighting .

If I may know, what is the cost of that sort of geo and corner weighting set up? Looks interesting.

I'm intrigued to see how you feel it on circuit.

Update on tyres this time as after my front left AR1 tyre let go at Lydden hill i have got this replaced with a new unit on the front left .

New left front AR1 .

The right front is coming to the end of its life but should still be ok for one more track day .

So below is the report form the track day at Thruxton that I did on Monday .

The track is only around 70 miles from where I live so it was not too much of a slog getting there .

Having not driven Thruxton before I was excited to give this track a go mindful that it is the UKs fastest track .

We got there and did the singing on and noise testing and then went out for some sighting laps .

Then it was time to set the car up for a dry setup .

Coilovers set to 15 clicks hard front and 5 clicks hard at the rear and then 25 PSI on the front AR1 tyres and 23 PSI on the rears and installing the cold air fee headlight and front number plate removal .

Going out for my first session I was a bit all at sea as I did not know the track and as the temps were 6 or 7 degrees I was having problems getting heat in to the tyres so below are some very slow laps from session 1 .

Session 1.1
https://youtu.be/UPRCfa98cpw

Session 1.2
https://youtu.be/20N1g0UCyNw

Session 1.2
https://youtu.be/Nf3xZTtZ__8

Session 1 rear view
https://youtu.be/4xzgAI_m0CU

My first thought were my god this track is fast .

After a quick cool down I set off for session 2 and picked up the pace a bit more but still holding back and learning the track and also needing a few laps to get some heat in the tyres .

Session 2.1
https://youtu.be/JhgiUnbBhFY

Session 2.2
https://youtu.be/yypjh9YJ5a0

Session 2.3
https://youtu.be/6CE8QpjKrAY

Session 2 rear view
https://youtu.be/0XsexIZwI_k

Session 2 was cut short due to a red flag as a BMW hit the barrier just before Club corner very hard .

Another cool down and then out for session 3 before lunch .

I was getting a bit quicker and was following an S2000 that seemed to know his way around so this was a good help to learn some lines .

Session 3.1
https://youtu.be/BfyYAvkhN_o

Session 3.2

Session 3.3
https://youtu.be/a5bD0xT4JtM

Session 3.4
https://youtu.be/ZB5Vr5CV7Bs

Session 3 rear view
https://youtu.be/QcD3kJ4565Y

Then it was time to break for lunch .

After Lunch it was a quick check of the car and brakes and oil were all good but the front right AR1 tyre was looking like it was getting near to the end of its life .

Then off out for session 4 .

Session 4.1
https://youtu.be/1gmMsrrFEVU

Session 4.2
https://youtu.be/wSLHlpFL8tU

Session 4 rear view
https://youtu.be/kT05qJbVKb0

The Front Right AR1 tyre was not looking that happy so I thought I would do one more quick session and then call it a day .

Session 5 was my best and I had some fun with a BMW 650i that was peddling pretty quick .

Session 5.1
https://youtu.be/qCYBIxEmzXE

Session 5.2
https://youtu.be/5eNJgRyWgfs

Session 5 rear view
https://youtu.be/RK9SiClLtUQ

We called it a day packed up and headed off home .

Below is a review of the day , me and the car .

The track at Thruxton is very fast and there is not a lot of room for error as you are doing some big speeds the whole way round and could have a very big shunt if you overdo it or something fails on the car .

This was my 8th track day and my first time at Thruxton and for the first few sessions I was very slow building up some confidence but by the end of the day I was going a respectable pace but no were nerve what the car is capable of I think as I was still short shifting and braking too much so still lots of improvement from me to be had .

The car was again faultless and gives much confidence in its feeling as it is very neutral with very little over steer or under steer .
The pace the car has is still amazing but I was not using all of the power and if anything a little less torque may be beneficial .

I will look to give the car a good once over at the weekend and check brakes oil etc. .

The front right AR1 has had enough I think but has done 4 full track days and a Nurburgring trip so has done well .

A few pictures of the day .

And a few drive by videos

Forgot to add that a lovely new blue alpine 110 came ever so close to hitting the wall at club corner but I don't think I was recording when this happened.

I gave the car a check over after Thruxton at the weekend to see where we are at with things .

Front brakes discs have some normal heat crazing and front pads still have a good bit of pad left do about 40 - 50 % worn .

Rear disc are fine and pads are getting a bit low but should still be ok for a few more track days .

All other parts oil , coolant and brake fluid are all fine .

The last thing to check over was the oil catch cans and the crank case one has very oil in it and the PVC only had the below in it after a couple of track days .

I will look to get one more track day booked up and then call it a day for this year .

On Tuesday I when to Goodwood for my last track day of the year and as it is just 10 miles from where I live it was nice and close .

It is a track that has been on my list for some time but it was all ways sold out .

Looking at the weather forecast it was going to be a wet day with little chance of the rain letting off any time throughout the day so as I was going on my own and without a support car to lug around all the gear I left the AR1 tyres and all the other bits back at home .

After singing on I had a good look around and knew it was going to be fun in the wet .

A few pics of a very wet Goodwood .

Then Noise testing ( 82 DB ) and a few sighting laps .

I set the car up for a wet track with the coilovers set to full soft and the RARB set to full soft .

I decided to run my wet set up MPS4 tyres and left the traction fully on .

Then it was off out for session 1

As ever I all ways seem to get a red flag on my first session for some reason .
This time it was an old classic that had broken down .

After the re start I took things easy to find out where the grip was and how the car felt on the very wet track .

Session 1.1
https://youtu.be/7cKBksX2CU8

Session 1.2
https://youtu.be/hd-CqXwJcPQ

Session 1.3
https://youtu.be/nrWmJhe6YR0

Session 1.1 rear view
https://youtu.be/OifJEXm7rdA

Session 1.2 rear view
https://youtu.be/77u6M7q3EGk

The car felt very good and planted and the only problem was trying to get the power down so a lot of short shifting and part throttle was needed to try and find some traction .

After a cool down it was on to session 2 and the car was feeling really good in the wet so I was able to push on a bit more but still not going too mad .

Session 2.1
https://youtu.be/bsgL18vyXtw

Session 2.2
https://youtu.be/gQnHK6RBGDg

Session 2 rear view
https://youtu.be/t6Hv3RDTCKk

Then after another cool down session 3 but the track was getting even wetter so I was still not pushing too hard but the car was still going around at an ok pace .

Session 3.1
https://youtu.be/3B5SO_e3dlU

Session 3.2
https://youtu.be/RQmDWsKOJvA

Session 3 rear view
https://youtu.be/hvcJFINWiKQ

Then it was a break for lunch and the food that was included with the track day was very good .

The track re opened at 1.30 so after checking the car I set out for another session .

Session 4.1
https://youtu.be/pQV4U0YC0UI

Session 4.2
https://youtu.be/urVhJOj8Bsk

Session 4 rear view
https://youtu.be/O8Dch6Qthb0

After another cool down I was planning on doing a couple more 15 min sessions but after another red flag ( a VX220 was in the barrier ) the track was closed and would not reopen until around 3.20 PM and the end time for the track day was 4.00 PM so after heading back to the pits I packed up and called it a day .

Session 5
https://youtu.be/D9P4Fq4CJ7c

And to finish a quick fly by vid of a GT3 RS

https://youtu.be/_WnGoczWvnI

What a great track Goodwood is and it was good fun to do my first full wet track day and feeling how the car is in the wet .

The setup of the car is very friendly and with the MPS4 tyres gave a lot of confidence to be able to push on at an ok pace .

That will do me for the year so the car will be packed up in the garage until next year but i have had 4 very fun days at Bedford , Lydden Hill , Thruxton and Goodwood .

I still have a few more parts to fit over the winter and a few plans ongoing to improve the car but it is such a great little fun thing and I’m having fun improving the car and improving my skills a little bit every track day .

With the car all packed away in the garage until next year i have given the car a good check over as i do after all my track day and all is good bar the rear brake pads .

The front Pagid RLS29 pads are still only about 50 % worn so will still be good for next year .

The rear PBS PRO race are looking a little low and are about 80 % worn so i will need to look in to getting them change over the winter .

Quick question about an earlier issue you had where the intercooler hose came off, how easy was it to re-attach without bumper off? Can you actually get access to the hoses through the underside?

I kind of half expected it to happen after I fitted my Pro Alloy.

Hi Alex yes it is very easy from under the car and there is room to take the hoses off with out removing the bumper .

As with everything space is limited but still not too hard .

Absolutely love this build, must be amazing on track. Unfortunately my ST is my only car and therefore I can't justify turning it into a full-on track car ( as much as I want to).

I'm just getting into my stage 3 project and I'm going for a fast road spec with an X47-R and hopefully 330ish bhp : )

Thanks mate it is good fun and has been fun building the car up to the spec it's now ( got a few new upgrades to do over the winter )

With regards to the x47-r I ran a x47 turbo on the car for a few years and it was great and the car made 305 bhp and 319 lbft and I now run the t/t s80 large turbo at low boost .

A lsd is a must if your running anywhere near 270-300 bhp so I would look in to that as well .

Let me know if you need any info on anything as I will be happy to help .
