Someone on the Fiesta ST FB group has put a tuned 2.0 Zetec Turbo in and is running over 450 bhp, it managed a 6 and a bit second 100 to 200 kmh time, that's up there with some of the more spicy supercar offerings, didn't mention 0-60 mph though....

I think though, the younger chaps want massive peak numbers, but track stuff is different, less is sometimes more and the car is fast enough, other factors come to the fore rather than pub numbers.
Yes this is very true with regards to the younger owners ( im 39 so that puts me in the older owners for this type of car ) that they are only after peak BHP and crackle maps .

Peter at TRS said it was nice to have a customer that wanted the car to drive nice and listen to advise from the tuner and was not too bothered about how many cool points he could show off to his mates about how much BHP he was running smile

I really can't decide what to do with my mk7 ST

mods are:

cp2
quickshift
motor mount
mp215 induction
3" exhaust system
stage 1 intercooler
crossover pipe

I'd like more power, have a maximum budget of £2k and looking for 300hp

ideally would like to do it cheaply as possible
I think you could pick up a second hand hybrid X47 turbo for around £ 900 and then the mapping at around £ 500 - 600 , large intercooler £ 500 ish so just about in the £ 2000 budget .

Other things like a bigger radiator , better brakes and LSD need to be thought about as well so will up the cost .

I found that the CP2 was great for the road and as great as the X47 and 305 BHP was it was a touch wasted on the road .

Looking at your graph it looks like you have a spike of torque from 2700 RPM to 3700 RPM so do you have to feed in second or do you shift up early in second .

The car has been back on the dyno again and this time running the medium boost map .

The medium boost map is running 1.6 BAR of boost .

The results from the dyno power run in medium boost .

347 BHP and 289 LB/FT .

Again very happy with the numbers and again i have had the torque limited to help out with traction .

I will see how i get on with the low boost map on track first and can then run this medium set up if i want to .

Yeah, think CP2 is really pretty good, and is about as far as you can go on the standard turbo so you get a better version of the standard car, hybrid/bigger turbos turn it into something different entirely.

It smooths out, i.e. you lose that balloon of torque low down but you also lose that running out of puff feeling up higher in the revs.

Its not a win/win situation, well it mostly is but it does lose something in the change, but it turns them into a bit of an animal, mine is meant to be 300 bhp, certainly feels a lot faster than when it was on CP2E but its not that often you get to use it on the road, it is pretty good though when an M3 driver cant work out why he cant pull away or when, like last night I was getting bullied by some prick in a Merc GLE despite cars in front of me, he expected me to move out of the way of his mighty tank so I accelerated a bit and let him keep pace, then just scuttled off biggrin

2 grand is perhaps tight, but it is doable on SH parts as mentioned, depends how far you want to go, I erred on Collins CP4 as it didnt need the £800 for new injectors like the CP5 and to be fair, its fast enough, but there is always that little doubt that I am in some way missing out....

I dont think you can get more fun/performance for the money than these though, its just knowing when to stop, eh Alan....? biggrin

I should have stopped a long time ago and been a much richer man but as Columbo siad ......... Just one more thing .

As the car was on the Hub dyno for the low and medium power runs i also got another slot to run the high boost map again .

The high boost map is running 1.75 BAR of boost .

The results from the dyno power run in high boost .

357 BHP and 298 LB/FT .

So not that far off what the car pulled at Devil Developments on there Dyno Dynamics rollers .

Next up will be to do a full review of how the track day went at Bedford going through the good the bad and the ugly of the day .

Just to finish off on all of the boost mapping and all of the dyno runs the below is the overlay for the three different dyno runs done on the Dynomite hub dyno .

The TRS hand set lets me switch from the three different boost maps in a few seconds by connecting directly to the OBD2 port so this will be handy when on track to make a quick change in the pits if i want to .

Bit of a late update as im a bit behind with this but the review is from my first track day of the year at Bedford on the 20/09/21 .

I wanted to do Bedford as my first track day of the year as i have done this for the past two years and it’s a good place to test the car with the new set up this year .

From last year the changes to the car have been the below .

Weight loss of 226.9 Kg taken out of the car .

New live mapping on the car with three boost / power settings Low 325 BHP , Medium 348 BHP and High 360 BHP .

Improved cooling with a larger track spec oil cooler and new larger radiator .

New semi slick tyre compound .

On the Sunday i did all the normal check on the car and then gave the car a good wash and wax .

Then it was on to packing all the gear in the support car and this time instead of taking my Hyundai I30N the Mrs wanted to take here GT86 .

I am very impressed how much you can fit in the GT86 as i did say we would struggle getting it all in there .

It is around a three-hour driver from where i live to get to Bedford but this was a good test of how the car is on the road and I’m happy to report that it is fine even on longer journeys without being uncomfortable or too loud even without air con and any in built audio .

After we got to Bedford it was on to noise testing and again the car was at 86 DB so no problems with noise .

Then parked up to sign on .

A few random pictures of the circuit .

As the weather was nice and dry it was then on to setting the car up to its dry spec set up .

Next was sighting laps .

Then out for session one .

With all of the changes made to the car over the winter i was excited to see how the car felt on its new set up but was also going to start off nice and slow as i have not driven the car since last November plus the Geo settings may be a bit off and the corner weighting will be all over the place as well as the tyres going down from a 215 section to a 195 section .

Session one was great and i started out running the car in low boost so 325 BHP and 273 LB/FT and the car feels like it has 50 % more in all areas from acceleration to braking and handling / grip .

As the car is only running 2 BHP more than last year and 69 LB/FT less torque the big improvements will be down to the weight reduction of the car and maybe me getting a little better as a driver . The only problem i had was a 370Z that was not too keen on letting me past .

Session 1.1
https://youtu.be/3f9vvu7OJMY

Session 1.2
https://youtu.be/D2FBEvM-82A

Session 1.3
https://youtu.be/Q65H7QIow6Y

I set up a new Go pro in the rear but goosed the settings and it is all way over exposed so i will not bother adding this .

Session 1.1 Rear
https://youtu.be/u8t__dTxo-w

After a little cool down i went back out for session two very happy with how the car was feeling so felt that i could start to push the car a little more .
I again had the boost set on low as the car felt dam quick as it was .

Session 2.1
https://youtu.be/GezEODF1m_c

Session 2.2
https://youtu.be/qNL64XJMEuw

Then it was another cool down and then on to session three and i was happy to push the car and me a little bit more braking a bit later and picking up the power earlier . Also had some fun with a couple of Focus RS cars running a Saber 550 kit so 562 BHP or 450 BHP on low boost but i forgot to ask the owner what power map they were running .

Session 3.1
https://youtu.be/Hg59FxJ_72g

Session 3.2
https://youtu.be/9z7-1Yq3mbc

Session 3.3
https://youtu.be/Ieqxk3FA8Js

Just after the back straight and getting back on the power the engine cut all boost and power but then came back to life and was ok so i nursed the car around the last part of the lap and back in to the pits to see what i could find .

A quick visual check came back ok and there were no warning lights so i plugged in the OBD2 fault code reader to see what i could find .

P0251 that is a generic fuelling fault and could be anything from fuel pump , HPFP , fuel sensor etc .

With this that was the end of the day as i did not have the parts to fix this problem so a shame as i was really enjoying myself and the car was up to this point amazing and very quick .

Doing a little check to the tyres and brakes and all were in good shape with not much wear to them .

It was a good day and i had great fun and feel that I’m getting a little bit better as a driver and at this track and the car feels great with the new upgrades .

Next up will be to look in to the fueling issue to get this sorted .

And to finish off a few pictures of the car on track .

After the track day at Bedford i set about looking into the problem with the fuelling and found that the HPFP was at fault .

I was seeing a pressure drop at the same time as voltage going to the HPFP so this was giving an open circuit .

There is a PCB inside the HPFP after the connector and if this fails this leads to the loss of power / boost as the HPFP sees an open circuit so the ecu goes in to safe mode .

New Bosh HPFP .

As i was changing the HPFP i also got a few other new fuelling parts to change at the same time .

New fuel pressure switch .

New fuel rail .

And some injector cleaner .

All parts in and fitted .

Then after a road test and checking the logs the fuelling problem is now fixed .

Yes I'm in this until the bitter end smile

As i have done all the work in the past month thought I would finish where I got up to as it might help some one in the future .

I will just finish off with the last few updates and then will go through the Goodwood track day .

After fixing the fueling issue with changing out the HPFP and other fueling parts i got round to installing a few new parts on the car .

First up was a new cabin filter .

The old one was looking a little dirty .

Next was to change the headlight lamps for some new Philips racing GT 200 units .

Then it was in to installing a Stealthwerx easy read oil dipstick .

The Ford OEM oil dipstick is not that easy to read .

After I replaced the HPFP I thought I would also look to change the spark plugs and also change out the boost control solenoid as i had already removed parts to gain access to the HPFP .

First up was a new set of NGK Ruthenium spark plugs ( one grade colder ) that you can still only get imported from the USA it looks like .

Then i installed a new Pierburg boost control solenoid .

Fitting was a bit on the tight side but not too bad to gain access to the boost control solenoid .

Last update for the car .

I received my Race box that can act as a speedo , acceleration timer , braking timer and a lap timer .

The kit also comes with a external GPS antenna and is needed if you have a heated front windscreen .

I also get a new OMP helmet and some new Sparco gloves .

That brings all of the build up to date and next i will do a report on how the track day at Goodwood went .

And finally on to the Goodwood track day to end this build thread .

After the track day at Bedford the car was driving very well until I have a fuelling issue that cut the track day short .

I found the problem to be a faulty HPFP so replaced this with a few other parts and after road testing the car was running well again .

I had booked to do Goodwood alone on the 27/10/21 as its just a 15 minutes from where i live so i could just take one car and a few tools wheels etc .

I got there early and found one of the sheds in the corner and then set about setting the car up to a dry set up .

Then had a look round waiting for booking in .

There were some nice cars that were booked on for the day .

Next was noise testing and then some sighting laps .

Goodwood with Open track do 15 minute sessions so you only have a max of ten cars on circuit at one time .

I set the car up to run low boost again, so the car was running 325 BHP and 273 LB/FT .

I also set up my Race box as I wanted to see what lap times i was getting .

Then it was out for session one .

This was my first time at Goodwood in the dry so i did not push too hard and it was more to get to know the track first .

By this point i was really happy with how the car was driving and also myself and was picking up the lines and getting quicker .

I really wanted to see if i could get the car in to the 1.35 minute lap times so set out for session 5 with a mind to push a little harder and brake a little later

I was very happy with the last session and got my 1.35 minute lap time and was going to call it a day but as the weather was still nice i thought i would go out for one last session ( this would prove to not be a good move )

A few photos of the day .

Then it was on to session 6 .

Again the car was driving very well but as this was my last session of the day i was not pushing as hard as before but still going quick enough .

With about 3 minutes to go in the session i came round the Lavent straight through 3rd and in to 4th gear and then was moving over for another car when what i am 99 % sure was the bottom boost hose blowing off distracted me to look at the dash to check for any warning lights and in a sill and costley error took my eyes off the track for a split second but i put two wheels on the grass and that sent the car in to a spin at around 100 + MPH that i could not catch and hit the wall down the Lavent straight .

https://youtu.be/63GqXKLIxyE

This was my first crash on track and a bit of a big one so i got two broken ribs a busted leg and a broken finger to take home with me .

As for the car well lets just say this will not polish out smile

And with that this will bring this build thread to a close .

I have very much enjoyed building the car and driving it on track and have enjoyed talking to everyone on here about the car .

My future plans are to strip the car ( when the ribs heal up ) of any parts and sell them to help fund a new track car project that i will look in to starting in the new year ( after I explain to the Mrs that wasting a load of money on a car then going back on track is a good plan and not dangerous at all ) .
