I have an optimate and leave that plugged in whenever not in use.
I went to start my 370Z yesterday after 2 weeks sat in the garage and it struggled to start(it has been fine over the summer though). So I put my battery conditioner on yesterday because with the lower temps and poorer weather I can't see me using it that much.

Plus I don't want to go to it when I do want to use it and it not start. I always used an optimate on my Cerbera as well. thumbup

So 2 weeks ago, I was driving to work and the car 'failed to proceed'....

Driving normally the car cut-out and then coasted to a halt with all the lights on the dash. It wouldn't start (starter motor would turn). I was by the side of the road for 30 mins and just as I was about to call for recovery, it started again (but with CEL on). Thoughts ? I'm hoping its the CPS...but it may be something transmission related maybe ?

So it's in the Car Hospital now for that and the following list to be looked at. BTW - Si, I gave Avantgarde another go

1) The 'Failure to proceed' issue
2) A 'G' Service (Which is an 'A'' plus time related bits)
3) Leak from the Rocker Covers
4) A suddenly developed whine from the front of the engine, I think it's a belt-tensioner pully bearing gone bad (am desperately hoping it's not the alternator !)
5) Replacing the C Pillar facings finally...

Roll up for the sweepstake ! Place your bets on how much that little lot will cost !

I reckon I'll be walking away with a bill for well over a grand...

It was the Crank Position Sensor that caused the failure to proceed (thankfully).
So they're doing the Rocker Cover leak and while there changing the plugs (x16).
Repair the sump leak
Needs new pads on the rear (80% worn)
The CPS replacement
Filters, Fluids etc

Approx £1500 quid.

Hey ho....at least it'll be in rude health for when it goes to Infinity for the X-Pipe next year !

Well, that escalated....

[url]

To be fair, a lot of it was 'well while you're there' thinking...For example, when they told me they had to take the engine out to fix the sump I told them 'while you're there you may as well do the engine mounts' which was lucky as after they took the engine out one of the mounts fell off ! eek

As they had to take the coils off to do the rocker covers, may as well do the spark plugs...

And as they had to take the front axle off, they replaced the control arms while they were there.

Seems the car has K&N filters on it, so they were only cleaned rather than replaced...

So I now have a car that has had everything that's needed to be done, done. It's had tranmission fluid, plugs, leaks fixed, CPS replaced, engine mounts, pads etc etc. Hopefully the next service will be a cheapy !

Drives lovely now I must admit !

At least you got the wheel alignment done for free! hehe

That is a meaty bill for sure but at least it has given you some piece of mind that the car is in fine fettle now.

It is heart breaking mate for sure and I'd be on the floor with a bill like that. frown

I was looking at how much more expensive things are on the full fat AMG cars from your invoice. I recently had the rear pads and sensors changed on the GLC350d and I managed to get them done for £103.

Love it! Will be a massive hoot. Is it not a black series then?
There never was a Black Series SLK but you can buy the little badges on Ebay.
To be honest & with two fingers up to those who get all huffy about such things I'd keep the badge after all the car IS black & it is very 'special' looking.
Just don't become an AMG snob as many owners are, as you will discover on the UK SLK Forum & at shows. Worse DO NOT buy a black AMG logo anorak or peaked cap.
Only just catching up on this thread but I'd counter by saying it was the first thing I noticed and I immediately thought, bullst. So hopefully the OP did remove it.

Ooh.... Not nice. Hope it goes perfectly after all that!

Mine passed 70,000 miles a couple of days ago. Nothing to report at the moment luckily.

WWYD ? I'm hesitant to get rid of the secondary cats due to potential Mot issues..

I did resonator and secondary cat removal on my old '55. No issues come MOT time.

100% worth it.

Mine has had the secondary cats removed, but has passed a few MoTs since without issues.

First one under my ownership due next month, so hopefully will be ok.
