Great to meet you tonight, and many thanks for a speedy deal on the wheels. I do think your 55 looks fantastic on the CH-Rs, and my planned option was to copy you were nothing to come up (which I had felt bad about).

Juice was kind enough to demonstrate the cold start up with the X-pipe modification. My word! That is some thunder! Definitely going to do the same to mine.

I will post a picture once the wheels are refurbed and tyred.

I got mine X piped (resonator and secondary cats removed) but a winter mod will be adding some small silencers back into the system - Whilst at cruising speed there is no drone - It's just a bit too much to live with on a daily basis IMO

My Blower had got really loud recently, like it was grinding....Then the other day completely died. Scanned it with the MBII scanner revealing a 0 voltage fault. So bit the bullet and ordered a new blower motor then summoned up the courage to get stuck in.

Warning, you basically need 3 arms for this !

Remove the under dash cover (torx screws)
Peel back the carpet
Remove the foam insert in the footwell
Remove the under dash cover plugs for the footwell light and 12V power outlet. Then remove cover fully.
Remove the Filter and housing
Unscrew the blower (the torx screws at the back are REALLY fiddly to get to)
Unplug the power (x2)

Comparing the old with the new, its pretty obvious it was FUBAR

Took the regulator off the old one, put it onto the new fan and into the car to test before installing....which was basically reverse of the above.

New blower cost 200 quid, about an hour and a half of my time. God knows what that would have cost at the garage !

That's the 2nd bit of spannering I've done today, after replacing the rear wiper motor on the Jazz....Phew, time for a lie down

We're off to Brockenhurst tomorrow for the weekend and going to Simply Mercedes at Beaulieu on Sunday. So broke out the DAS with some Megs Ultimate Compound.

The car's got some fairly extensive swirls and I was never going to get 100% so opted for some Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine (for it's filling capabilities) and then Poorboys Blackhole over the top.

Cleaned and dressed the leather and gave it a damn good hoover !

Took 5 1/2 hours from initial wash/clay to finish.

Wow that is expensive. I’m normally a major fan of factory wheels but factoring in a £200+ refurb and possibly tyres that looks like a lot!

Edit: Those tyres look old. What does a set of 18” Goodyears cost? £500? I’m with Bannatyne on this one.

You say that, but i've had my eye on a set of wheels on eBay for a few months now, the wheels look like they've been kerbed/buckled then shoved in the back of a garage for 10 years, pulled out and shoved on eBay. The seller is asking £1750, for 4 wheels (no tyres) that require a 'refurb' at the least, worse case they may be buckled and completely unusable. Beggars belief what some idiots think their st is worth - the fact they've not sold after all this time tends to lend weight to the fact the seller is taking the piss.

TBH it isn’t a terrible strategy. Look at everything in your garage that you probably want to keep. List it with a ridiculously high price and let it sit there. eBay doesn’t charge you for it!

So everything was going swimmingly until this weekend, when after a visit to Cheddar for new PS5's on the front I was driving back and then got a 'top up coolant' message on the dash....accompanied by steam behind me - uh oh....

Immediate thought was head gasket but turns out the water pump has shat itself. Phew.

Got on the phone to Mercedes Newcastle and have ordered a new water pump, gasket and while at it a new serpentine belt as I cannot recall when it was last done (and it has to come off for the new pump to be installed) plus a new idler pulley. Will be delivered on thursday.

Checking the service history it's never been done. So after 17 years it's done well imo.

Just glad it's nowt too catastrophic....

That has lasted well as you say. I had the water pump go on our old GLC350d and it was only 4 years old(granted it had done a 100k miles though in fairness).

I was a bit shocked that the water pump only lasted 4 years in honesty, but after doing a bit of digging around they only have a shelf life of around a 100k miles anyway though.

MB Newcastle offer a return/rebuild service. So once the old pump is off and drained I can send it back and they'll credit me £45 quid back.
Seems mad to turn down £45 quid for a little effort so that'll be going back once it's off.
