I'd be tempted to send him an engraved hammer and screwdriver in a glass case and a certificate for incompetence.

He's going to get a letter before action first

that's good to hear Mike
a long and drawn out painful process, and not without some wallet damage either.
does this mean the Accord goes?

A pint to celebrate?

I cannot believe your sang froid, I'd have freaked completely. With that level of composure you'll probably live forever. I just don't accept that modern cars should fail or that manufacturers should be able to walk away from design faults. It's not as if shell bearings are new technology.

If you decide against suing him, I'd be inclined to show the evidence to the police. It sounds like he could be prosecuted for fraud, potentially along with theft.

Why not both? Sounds like he deserves anything he gets. I hate the way people think they can get away with doing what they want and it doesn't matter. It flipping does! I'm having similar problems, although bodywork related rather than mechanically related. It's not cost me quite so much money as OP, but it's just as frustrating. Hopefully, the company I'm dealing with are going to pull through. The owner seems like a decent person and says he wants to put things right. It might end up happily ever after yet!

Thanks Nigel. The Accord went in May, so I don't need to worry about that now.

Yeah I am sure that we could sort something out.

I am absolutely raging inside, but at the same time it is what it is. I am just glad to have the car back at the moment. I agree, modern cars should not have this issue but they do and unfortunately it is just one of the issues of ownership.

He was reported by someone else and nothing came of it.

People shouldn't be allowed to get away with it but they do. It is a sad fact. Look at all of the rogue traders out there who seem to get away with it.

Good luck with your bodywork issue, I hope the company come good for you.

Genuinely astonished looking at this!!!

I used to be a tractor mechanic and would regularly have to finish off what the farmer had started and even they had more mechanical sympathy!!!

Good on you gift sticking with it, I must admit my piss would also probably boil but life’s too short. I learnt a while ago some things are just not worth getting wound up over it does you no good in the end.

Love the car by the way definitely a asset that will started to appreciate soon and you now have a well sorted example.

The level of damage is unbelievable, I would go as far as malicious if it hadn't happened to somebody else at the same time furious

Did you pay him for the work??

Unfortunately, as you say you'll be lucky to get any money back but if you do take him to the high court you might get his hammers taken off him and hopefully see him on TV "if you don't pay we'll take it away"
Scumbags like this will start there business under a sudo name and screw somebody else!!
Maybe you need to get camera, confront him and stick him up on YouTube Instagram, Facebook etc. so we all can know who this is punchpunch

I sold my facelift E60 M5 for about 3 years ago and I've missed it ever since, even after owning cars worth more than double ... am I mad for considering buying another given the costs involved in maintaining them?

As I run my own garage I HATE it when I read stories like this. There are loads of us out there doing a good caring job and then there are a few c##ts like the first garage to touch this one spoiling life for the rest of us. I'm sure it doesn't apply to anyone on here but to so much of the public it just gives them an excuse to think we're all trying to rip them off. Take him to court by all means but I'm afraid it doesn't sound like as though your likely to get any money back and he'll just laugh off a CCJ. If you can get him declared bankrupt that might sting him a bit, that's all I can suggest that doesn't involve violence!
Anyway, rant over I hope you enjoy your car.

Cheers. It really is unbelievable the st that this guy caused me. I hope it does start to appreciate, but there is still plenty of work to do yet. Could do with a front end tidy up and a few bits here and there. I was going to pay my indy to change my springs but I might try and tackle it myself as I am currently on a spending ban laugh

It was malicious. I am the only person who have ended up with this kind of damage. The worst extra damage inflicted on another car was his tank was drained as well. Honestly the naming and shaming policy is rigged on here against the good guy as I should be able to say who screwed me over but alas.

Right now I just want to try and enjoy the car. I have another oil and filter change coming up in a week or so and I need to get the new fuel pumps at around £500 the pair. I still need to sort a wobble from the front end as well which is either tyres or brakes and neither are cheap.

Not if you get the right people to work on them. Until this episode my car hadn't been any more expensive than my old E39's to maintain.

I think it is unfair to tar all garages with the same brush. I was just unlucky in this instance but it is what it is.

I've seen quite a few failed engines and I've NEVER seen a pickup look like that before. That's clearly not occurred without manual intervention.

Preaching to the choir my man. It is absolutely abhorrent how that treated me, especially after not giving him any grief when it failed, other than him being hard to get hold of. It just wasn't necessary.

What a saga - but I have endless love for the E60 M5.
As a Southport chap, I fully approve of your visit. biggrin

If you visit again, Hickory’s Smokehouse, The Firepit or The Potting Shed are my favourite eats - sorry that you had to endure Spiga laugh
