I have replaced the diversity antenna already for a new item from BMW. I am unaware of the suppression filter though.
If its in the same place as in my E64 and no reason to think it would not be its behind the drivers side boot trim, one electrical plug either end of it, I know there are a couple of different ones but will look something like the belowAndy665 said:

I seem to remember someone with an E90 M3 that had rubbish radio reception until he replaced the earth straps that had broken on the exhaust back box. Don't know if your car should have them too but it might be worth checking. Very cheap fix if so.
My car does have an aftermarket system - could be the cause - worth investigating. Thanks. The issue is that it doesn't list many radio stations, and when it does, the reception can be patchy.

Ah man, what a joke! As i was reading through that i thought 'i wish more people know about Steve at 'Mr Vanos', glad to learn it went there. I daresay the competition engine builders i help out at are probably the ones who honed your block etc.
Plain sailing from now on, enjoy!
Cheers. I would have sent the car to him originally but the company closer to me were able to do it over a weekend (which they obviously didn't).Plain sailing from now on, enjoy!
The company who honed the block are in London.

I've now covered around 770 miles in it since I collected it. Drove faultlessly up to Southport yesterday. Chester tomorrow and then Llandudno in Tuesday. Then another oil change at 1200 miles and then I should be good to go!
I'd recommend The Swan chippy on Stanley Street if you're still in Southport now TheAngryDog said:

Cheers. We are still in Southport so will check them out. Walked past it a few times yesterday I think. Fingers crossed the M5 works out ok this time round.

Are you a Southport local or regular visitor? We went to Spiga last night. Was a little underwhelmed.
Cheers, so do I. At least is has an engine built by the right man now so I have faith in it.
That's a tale of woe, i'm glad you're out the other side now and can enjoy it.
Other than with routine maintenance, I tend to subscribe to the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" mantra and this story is a good example of why.
I know it's a common weakness with the engine and why you did it, if you didn't it'd probably worry you throughout your ownership, same deal with Porsche IMS bearings.
That first garage sounds like a complete butcher, I hope you can hold them to account.

I'd still have had a big bill if I had have left it and not touched it, possibly larger as someone else's car ended up with an inspection hole in the block, and finding a block to use isn't easy.
Karma is a bh as they say. He doesn't have a pot to piss in, but a ccj and bailiff visit will not please him I am sure.

Somehow I missed the original thread but wow what a story and well done on perseverance.
I understand why name and shame rules are there, but in cases like this it’s a pity as it could very easily save the next man the heartache and expense you’ve experienced.
Looking forward to some “run in now” stories.

It's not a guarantee you'll spin a bearing, for every engine that does that early, there are probably 50 that have made it to 200k miles with no issue. I assume the example you gave with the hole in the block is someone that's driven on with a knocking bottom end and eventually thrown the rod out the side of the block.
I'm glad you're sorted now. With regards to the money, I can imagine it's a sore subject in your house and you'd rather forget but it would be interesting to know.

Exactly. A whole two pages on an expensive repair and no mention of the ultimate costs.

Wrt to other failure, he was sat in traffic in a tunnel when it went boom. He had his bearings done by the same company as me.
Re the cost, it isn't sore, I just don't see what business it is of others to know. Want to buy my car? Sure I'll tell you as the invoice is in the folder, but I think it is rude to ask, especially without saying please.
