I'm guessing you found that information out afterwards. It's a shame you can't name the place to warn others.

Ours failed at roughly the same time.
The guy who did the work has basically closed. Just selling his wares of questionable origin on eBay now.

I'd recommend The Swan chippy on Stanley Street if you're still in Southport now smile
Cheers. We are still in Southport so will check them out. Walked past it a few times yesterday I think.
Le Boulevard just before Lord Street is good too (if you want something a little healthier). It's in Cambridge Arcade.
Fingers crossed the M5 works out ok this time round.
I'm on holiday, healthy is next week when I am home laugh.

Are you a Southport local or regular visitor? We went to Spiga last night. Was a little underwhelmed.

Cheers, so do I. At least is has an engine built by the right man now so I have faith in it.
Just in Wigan, but go to Southport quite a bit. Fish and chips on a plate is eating out for me wink some nice places in Formby if you're eating out again tonight. Only a mile or two down the road.

Engine rebuild with gearbox £11140.01
Clutch and flywheel with associated clutch parts £1370.00
Is that the total cost including the first attempt at a fix and the rectification?

I very much doubt that I will get anything back from him. His own car isn't even insured at the moment.

I don't have a problem with people knowing, what I do have a problem with is the way it was demanded. I note that oil change is now very silent on the discussion.

Yay!
Thanks, didn't mean to be rude, just thought it would complete the story.

Have to say, I've spent large sums on my car albeit not on a large failure like this, biggest I think was about 4,500. I guess the more cylinders the bigger the bill (mines a 4 pot).

This is the only car I have ever owned that has had engine failure, and tbh I don't think the engine actually failed.

None of that damage to the oil pump looks "natural" to me.

I think in cases like this, that rule is absolute bs. But understand why it's enforced. Maybe put it up on a blogging site unrelated with oh and email ppl who are interested...

Well done for persevering with it and I hope you manage to get some, if not all your money back.
A friend had this v10 m5 when it first came out, there was a waiting list for it and ended up selling it a few months later for more than he paid for it smile. Frome bypass has never been such a blur 😉

Yeah it is a bit poor, but it is what it is. I will never get my money back or even a penny from the guy, he has no money of his own it seems.

Thanks, hopefully that is it for a while, though I do still need to replace the fuel pumps..

Oddly, I am sure I had posted a reply to this and it seems to have been deleted.....

Totally. The car ran when I sent it to him, if a bit rattly and in limp mode above 2500rpm. That damage would have thrown on the engine oil light. I have video of it running from the day it happened and from him when he was diagnosing it. He really turned out to be a charlatan.

My only grace from this is that I have a well sorted car that should have no issues. I do not own anyone elses problems, only my own rofl

I've now covered around 770 miles in it since I collected it. Drove faultlessly up to Southport yesterday. Chester tomorrow and then Llandudno in Tuesday. Then another oil change at 1200 miles and then I should be good to go!
Well done on sorting your car out. I’m up to 600 miles on my new S65 after a road trip to the Cotswolds. It goes quickly - i have to take it back for a service at 1000 miles - is the run in period different for the S85?

Cheers! Was yours a warranty job?
The s85 standard run in was 1200 miles, same as the s62. I would have thought that the S65 would have been the same.

My builder didn't want the 5w30 in it long term, and as there was going to be bits of st in the oil from a new build it was best to do a change at around 600 miles, then another at 1200 miles.

I know I've already posted my best wishes but have another thumbup

My best mate had one when new and they are such fantastic cars, I loved my CSL but the engine in these is literally something else, the F1 tech that went into it is unreal when you read the official BMW paper on it.

If you can afford to run it for a number of years I guarantee this will be one of the all time classics, never again will you see an engine like that in a saloon car.

Yep, warranty job. That makes sense - though I think mine has got 10W60 in it so have to keep <5.5k for the whole period.

Most kind, thank you! smile.

The V10 sounds glorious when on it. It is addictive. I am hopeful that I can afford to run it rofl

Yeah it is the last of the breed. I respect and covet an F10, but the engine in one of those is not very special, which is disappointing.

10w60 is what BMW will want it on. 10w50 is what my engine builder wants in it as 10w60 is too think for UK use really.

I've never been in an e9x M3 and that is despite a mate of mine owning one. I wonder how different they are to the M5?

Good luck with yours, I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

More than likely. The guy who fked my engine really is an abhorrent insufferable prick.
