£27k for a hopefully sorted V10 saloon of the likes we’ll never see again doesn’t sound too bad, especially when you look at what you could buy if you went new and safe.

Exactly as above really. It's a hell of a lot more than a second hand M5, but yours is probably mechanically the best you can get. That's got to be worth it, especially if you're going to keep it for the forseeable. Drive and enjoy smile

This is true, but I guess there are aspects of others I miss. I am considering getting a turbocharged car in the new year to satisfy my want of getting back into a car with a turbo. I'll be running it alongside the M5, though I will also be putting it up for sale as well.

I just get bored. Truth be told if I could go back to when it failed (I'd like to go back to before then and use someone else for the bearings), I'd choose not to fix the car and just sell it for what ever I could get and buy something else a bit cheaper.

Anyway, car news. We have a failure!!!!!

Passenger side xenon bulb was starting to show signs of failure. Noticed it on Thursday. 2 Osram Night Breakers Unlimited bulbs bought and delivered yesterday. Headlights out to replace and we now have 2 new bulbs working as they should.

Also fitted LED indicator bulbs while I had the headlights out.

Absolutely nothing of any interest to report. Car is still running.

I need to replace the sunroof seal still. Going to the German Vs Jap meet on Saturday. If anyone spots me feel free to say hello.

To be fair I’ve never heard of that failure - what a PItA but as you say it’s on the chin and will not be mega bucks thankfully.

You deserve a good long run of luck that’s for sure.

It was a failure of the brake reaction bushes, which seems to be more common.

wavey hi TAD, long time no speak, the lowered ride height looks great thumbup

Figure is pretty reasonable in the context of what new mundane tripe you could pick up for that money (or even double that...) and none of it would have the same noise.

Plus with that amount of repairs etc. you must at least feel pretty confident abusing it, sorry, making the most of it hehe

I found the Powerflex bushes to be of poor longevity on my E46 models. Two sets fitted to different cars got get baggy and worn out. They were both fitted with the Powerflex lube but were un-serviceable after 30-40,000 miles.

It's in Cobham, 9am to 11:30am iirc.

Now then James - how's MK treating you? Yeah it definitely needed lowering!

Yeah I guess it's not all bad, though the money I have in it would have got me a low miles F10 M5 with a warranty, which would be needed seeing as they seem to be starting to go wrong now.

I do have a level of confidence in it, but I also still have that niggle at the back of my mind. Engine is warrantied anyway so if anything does go wrong then I should be OK, as long as it wasn't my stupidity that caused it to go wrong! hehe

I've generally been OK with Powerflex bushes. I think the design wasn't very good which is why they've been replaced. Reminds me, I need to contact them about replacing them.

Great thread - well done on keeping something so exotic running, despite the cost!

FYI the sunroof seal is a super easy job, if you follow what others have done by removing the old, putting the new one in place and then removing the sticky backing. Means you can position it really accurately. The difference in wind noise on my E61 was night and day, before I couldn't drive with the cover open, after it was never shut.

Wow what a car but what a thread.... just read start to finish.

I wasn't aware of this no warning others of shoddy garages rule, so will be extra careful and look for positive recommendations rather than "no bad reviews" in future when looking for AMG indys.

So as a previous E55K owner is the M5 special enough to warrant all the pain? wink

The German vs Jap meet looks like a good one to put in my calendar for another month too

I always keep coming back to these when thinking about changing my car. And I’m back looking at them now. So many horror stories though!

Do you think, with hindsight, and I know it’s probably difficult but putting aside the debacle with the original engine work issues. Would you still recommend one? Or is the pain of ownership still too great even after the engine issues were sorted?

The prices for these are very low these days. I can’t help but wonder if that’s quite telling....

But I really would like a v10.

Cheers! It's an on-going cost as well, but V10 ownership isn't cheap!

Maybe I am being stupid but not sure what you mean about the seal. I was going to mark the join on the roof (masking tape), make sure the new one is the correct size (my seal has shrunk a bit) and then remove the old, clean the old residue off the car and then apply new seal. If there is a better way then I am all ears

Yeah there are naming and shaming rules, which is a bit of a shame really as we should, as car enthusiasts, be able to look for one another. I used MSL for my E55, Acid is a decent guy.

I think the M5 is the better drivers car, though the E55K was faster in a straight line. The sound of the V10 makes a huge difference though.

I believe they are monthly. They have a face-ache group if you're on there. I am planning to go to Caffeine and Machine on Saturday afternoon all being well also.

There are a lot of horror stories, but you only ever hear of the bad. There are plenty of happy stories as well. It is a car you need to do your due diligence on before buying, and even then expect problems!

I'd still recommend one yes. It is a special car, more special than the M5's that replaced it. It is a buyers market, hence why prices are low. The F10 is heading in the same way. In fact I am certain that next summer you will be able to jump out of an E60 straight into an F10 and not pay any more money.

That caught my eye as I often go to the Classic Car meets at the Black Swan pub a mile or so further along Old Lane (KT11 1NG) on the 2nd Sunday of the month.

I've done a quick Google and from what I found it looks like the Jap v German meet is at the Black Swan on the first Sunday of each month, not Saturday. But then I don't use social media, so I may have got it wrong. rolleyes

But I'd like to find out as it sounds like a good event for a serial BMW owner!

You are correct, it usually is the first Sunday, but Trax is this Sunday so the meet has been moved so as not to clash.

Went to German vs Jap Breakfast Charity meet in Surrey on Saturday morning. Went with a mate in his E92 M3 and two other guys (F80 M4 and E92 M3). Got some pics while there.

And some edited pics to bring out the blue in the Silverstone Blue II paintwork

After this meet I went home and then went to Caffeine & Machine near Stratford upon Avon in the afternoon and met up with some old friends.

This is his Porsche 911. It is different and I quite like it because of that.

My car parked in the field.

It was a good but long day out! Car performed perfectly, managed to use a tank of petrol to cover less than 200 miles hehe

I had been giving serious consideration to selling the car, despite the financial bath I would take on it, but the bit of attention it got on Saturday, and how much my mate with the Silverstone Blue II M3 loved it had a positive affect on me and has given me some food for thought on what I should do with it. Keep it and make it more the car I want, or sell it and get something else..... I am more on the keep it side at the moment.

Ok, I fancy a 911 Turbo (997) next, can you buy a ropey one and get it all sorted out at vast expense and then flog it to me at the going rate ? biggrin

What I am trying to say is, keep it, enjoy it for a while and get some enjoyment out of all that heartache, agro and money it has cost you, in the meantime prices shouldnt get any worse, possibly even increase, especially for a well sorted example where the pain has already been gone through.

Just try not to keep spending and spending, unless you are really thinking long term.

When would you like to take delivery of the 911 Turbo?
