BMW M140 (at last!)

If you don't have the WiFi prep package, you should be able to add the antenna and then enable Carplay with an FSC code, is that what you meant by retrofit? I'd steer away of the interface boxes if you have this particular capability.
I'm on ID6 with WiFi prep, so I could buy Carplay with an one-off payment to BMW through the connected services, have you checked if this is available for yours?
I can’t add it via the Connected Drive store so need to get a Wi-fi antenna fitted and CarPlay codes in. A chap in Sutton Coldfield was recommended by Sytner (he does a bit of work for them). He said to avoid the lung in boxes too because they can brick them heat unit if BMW run an update. Think that’s per year with BMW! Robbing bds.
It's a one-off, the clue is in the "unlimited". I would never recommend a subscription like that. Also, from the desktop website:
Looks like the u-turned late last year

Had CarPlay retrofitted this morning - it really didn’t take very long at all. The chap had already asked for my VIN to obtain the relevant FSC code to enable it, he popped in a WiFi arial and it was up and running in about 25 minutes.
Connectivity and usability of my amazon music app is much better via CarPlay and more akin to Deezer with the data connection. It sounds better too than via Bluetooth, not as good as previous but loads better than Bluetooth which sounded cack.
I was supposed to be doing the NC500 in a few weeks time but a broken wrist courtesy of crashing my mountain bike last week has put an end to that. I’m thinking about doing a solo trip in September once my cast is off.

How much did it cost to have it fitted - might be tempted to have it done in my F30 335d
£150 inc the Wi-fi arial which is better value than £179 every year for thee cars data connection. So far I’ve been really pleased with it and should have spec’d it from day one. I'm tempted for that !

Finally got round to getting the underbody brace fitted, I ended up having to get a garage to do it because access under the car isn’t great and I’ve got a broken wrist. That was annoying because it’s a really easy job.
Driving back, the car did feel better; stiffer and a bit tighter. It’s not night and day, but there’s a subtle difference especially under hard acceleration with a bit less squirm. I’m at the half way point in wearing a cast, so hopefully I can go for a good drive in a few weeks to see if there is a proper benefit.
I am able to drive, I did check with my insurers who were pretty relaxed with my car being an auto.

Don't do it on your own. Much more fun with somebody else to bounce off, especially if you're playing silly buggers!
I had heard it was mega busy at the moment but it really wasn't this weekend, much quieter than the same time last year.
I'd like to do it clockwise next year but Bennett is already talking about an Alps trip!
And a pic to make you feel st for not making it.

Since fitting my lowering springs I’ve had a few issues with the alignment. The first place cane highly recommended by a friend who’s really happy with what they dud to his 125i. The car felt goof to drive with their fast road geo but the steering wheel was on the piss slightly....I went back for times and each time it went from the left, to the right etc. I got cheesed off so took it to Sytner for a KDS which is where it went tits up....
The wheel was still on the piss but not so bad but it felt a bit off. Loosing the will to live with it I booked the car in with Centre Gravity who are just down the road from me. They’re very, very well regarded amongst Porsche owners so I thought what the hell. It’s expensive but they appear to have done a good job. Even in the wet the car feels much less lively.
They also uncovered a few issues....the BMWZ tech hadn’t done up various bits like track rods. The guys at CG we’re able to undo them with their fingers! The car was generally all over the place...
Before
After
The car had dropped pretty much the same, with each opposing wheel being within 1mm of the other. With my very unscientific approach of shoving a finger between the tyre and wheel arch it seemed like the rears hadn’t dropped the same, but the below shows that they have.
Looks like my rear tyres will need changing before too long. I’ll chuck on another pair of PSS’s and then next time I’ll change all four to PS4’s (maybe).

Inspired by PistonHeads Rise and Drive series of videos, I thought that I’d sneak out early to go for a drive. It wasn’t quite as early as I’d have liked because I was happy in bed and the human alarm clock (my five year olds slept in. I was still out of the door by 7:30am though.
I headed out and went cross country to Matlock via a bit of a Derby. I young lad in an Aygo glued himself to my rear bumper through some 30 roads. He didn’t stay there for long once we hit the A38 dual carriageway! It took him ages to catch up, but he gave me a thumbs up and put his hazards on as he passed when I turned off.
I then headed over to Matlock and up a road called Via Gella Road which was nice and empty other than the odd cyclist and a few guys on sport bikes. There was a biker cafe at the bottom of the road so I knew I was probably in a good spot. Friend who also had an M140i recommended the road and it didn’t disappoint.
I then followed some amazing roads over to Ashbourne. These were equally as good with some lovely views so I pulled over to take some photos.
I then cruised over to Ashbourne and found a cafe for breakfast. The drive back home was along some good roads but the dawdlers and Sunday drivers were out so it was a steady cruise home. Will definitely be doing this little drive again in a few weeks with a mate in his 125i, but I’ll make a point of going earlier.
The car feels so much better after a proper alignment, it really does feel transformed especially in conjunction with the subtle drop and the underbody brace. It was nice to just drive it for the sake of it and it made me appreciate it a lot more.
I’ve tracked down a cheap set of side foils so they’ll be getting fitted in the next few weeks and I’ve found the M Performance sill extensions which will follow.
