Thanks for that, I’ll get in touch with them.

Re the b12s, they were on autodoc yesterday for £525.60, I’m tempted at that price..

I also want to get into an M car, I’d like an f80 m3 dct. I’m going to hold on for 18 months or so I think though with the new m3/4 coming soon hopefully prices will drop a bit on the older generation f series cars, prices of m140i seem to be staying strong too currently, in fact I’d say they’ve gotten a bit more expensive. A friend of mine is looking to get into an m140i and to find and equivalent of my Car when I bought it we are finding cars about 1k more than I paid approved used.. so I’m just watching the market for now and enjoying mine for what it is.
Your settings don’t allow me to send an email / PM...

I’ll prob do the dampers next spring / summer once they’re on offer again. It’s not a huge amount more than some some B6 dampers.

I was initially thinking that an M2 would be the obvious move (size suits me fine, I love the noise of the N55 and they look fab) but they don’t look particularly good value at the mo. I’ve started looking at M3/4’s instead which look much better value used with a decent selection below £30k. The noise is a bit iffy, but the interior is a big step up from the 1/2 series cars. My thoughts are the same that with the new cars out, hopefully there’ll be a few more coming to get market.

But I’m also thinking that I’ll stick for a while and as you say enjoy the car for what it is (more than fast enough yet not too expensive to run).

Sorry, just changed that so hopefully you’ll be able to do it now.

I don’t feel short changed at all with the car, I enjoy it every time I drive it but find the handling a touch frustrating sometimes, like it is purposely held back from factory which makes me want the real deal..

Cool, sent you his number.

I guess it was held back from the factory to an extent and had to be built to a price point.

Heading off to the Elan Valley shortly. Not entirely sure why I bothered but I washed my car quickly this morning because it was hanging after a wet weekend but will no doubt be hanging after a wet driving trip around Wales....

Camping sport booked, tent etc slung in the car so all ready to go.

I need to get off my arse and sort some rear tyres out. There’s still about 3.5mm of tread left but they seem to be going off the boil, even in the dry mild weather last week I was struggling for traction a bit.

Enjoy! Had really hoped I'd get over that way for a run this year but looking like it probably won't happen until next year now, so I'll enjoy your photos with a hint of envy when you post them up.

Apologies, this is going to be an extremely long post….

Having missed out on the NC500 this summer due to my broken wrist, I decided that a drive out to the Elan Valley would be a suitable alternative. My friend Andy, who I should have done the NC500 with was in too. The only date we were both free was early October. A camping / driving trip to Wales in early October, what could go wrong?

The weather – it turned big time. The weekend previous I was still cleaning cars in shorts and T shirt. This weekend it pissed it down, a theme that would continue into Monday and Tuesday too.

We met at Macdonalds just outside Lichfield because we’d be taking the A5 most of the way. It was absolutely hammering it down and I was starting to wonder what I had let myself in for. As we hit Shrewsbury it brightened up a tad and the roads even dried up. The route into Wales was pretty frustrating because we were held up by lorries, tractors, camper vans and dawdlers. The only thing missing was a slowly driven Honda Jazz.

The A470 into Rhayader gave us a first taste of the local roads; it had a nice flow to it with some lovely scenery to the right. Our campsite was just outside Rhayader. Just as we arrived the rain reappeared with some wind which made setting up the tents fun! It seemed like a nice spot although we couldn’t see much of the scenery with the mist and low clouds.

[url=https://postimg.cc/zbKfSxWL]

And a beading shot just because…

We wondered down to Rhayader for a bite to eat and a few beers. Found a couple of good pubs then walked back in the dark because we’d both forgotten a torch but at least it wasn’t raining….yet. That came in the night and tents are pretty noisy when it’s hammering down. Add in the acorns being lobbed out of the Oak tree behind me in the wind and it wasn’t the best nights sleep I’ve had.

Woke up to wind and rain (there’s a theme here….). One tent carefully packed away.

Picture of my boot from my phone…

Breakfast was binned off because neither of us fancies cooking bacon in said wind. We headed off to the Elan Visitor Centre which presented a couple of opportunities for pictures. We saw a Mk5 R32 and new M135i heading the visitor centre, presumably doing the same as us.

From here we headed around the reservoir stopping at the dams to take pictures when it wasn’t raining too much and take in the scenery. The roads were good too, narrow but not too many people on them.

We then headed around the other side and on our way to Claerwen reservoir. More good roads and fabulous scenery. I’ll let the pictures do the talking. We drove to the top and bottom of the dam; what an incredible piece of engineering.

From here we headed to Devil’s Bridge – the road was absolutely amazing; not very fast, narrow, undulating with a few squirty bits. There were a few kamikaze sheep plus lots of stranding water so I wasn’t pushing hard. I think this is known as the Rhayader Mountain Road. On the way to Devil’s Bridge we stopped at The Arch.

Once we got to Devil’s Bridge we stopped at a café for well needed bacon sandwich. The weather was now pretty st but we carried on to Strata Florida Abbey. The roads there were really good too, slightly faster than the road to Devil’s Bridge. We turned around and did it in reverse. There was even more standing water on the way back but it was still enjoyable.

The Elan Valley and the surrounding areas are stunning and the roads are fun too. I definitely want to go back and do it again because I had lots of fun.

The return leg was pretty dull until I had a massive moment in the M54 when I hit some standing water accelerating off a roundabout. I really thought that I was going to have a massive crash when the rear end snapped to the right and then to the left when I tried to correct it. I end up with the back end swinging across the verge (which was luckily flush). I had a horrible vibration all of the way home so I feared the worst but the rear wheels were full of mud – I’ve power washed it down and it was fine when I took I out. It did st me up a bit if I’m honest. Some new MPSS for the rear will be getting ordered this week! It was totally my fault for accelerating too hard for the conditions, lesson learnt.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

I've been following this thread since you started it, glad you're enjoying your M140i, it looks great in white with those subtle mods.

I absolutely love my M140i and I've never really understood why they seem to attract a lot of criticism.

Cheers on both accounts.

I m really enjoying the car and despite the pull of an M car being strong I’ll be sticking with it for a while yet.

They are flawed but not to the extent ,any in the internet would have you believe. Plus it’s almost become cool to slate them after they were the media darling.

There’s a lot in here who criticise them and the mood changed after a while with the media. I’m happy with mine though.

Really enjoyed the update, thanks matey.

I honestly can't see me ever selling my 2017 M140i auto (with adaptive).
It does everything I want, practical, not too 'shouty', reasonable running costs, yet is plenty fast enough (after a remap) for UK roads.
Oh, it's also FUN !

Glad everything was ok! There a few places on the M54 that seem to get some standing water, which is especially scary in the dark as some genius decided they shouldn't turn the lampposts on anymore. I had to pick up a drunk mate from Shrewsbury a couple of months ago during a stormy night which was a 'fun' experience. hehe

Your M140i looks brilliant. I know they attract some hate sometimes but I've always been a fan of them and I can see why a lot of owners love them.

Mine are coming up to needing replacing too and everyone has been recommending going for PS4's instead as they are better suited to our climate and dealing with shifting water.

Mine feels quick enough stock to be honest. I think they’re fun, and I’ve enjoyed it a fair bit more since taking it out for the sake of it.

I really need to get the hang of multi quoting....

It’s an awful piece of road. The concrete sections are vile and the way it holds water....lesson well and truly learnt!

Thanks for the comments about the car.

It really is, even in the gloom, mist and pissing rain it’s pretty. Will definitely be heading back but will try and tie it in with some sun.

Cheers. It was a lot of fun until I aquaplaned; properly scared me. I’ve had times where water. Has grabbed a wheel and the car has snatched to one side slightly but nothing like that.

Ultimately that’s what I want to run, but the fronts have loads of life left in them (one is newish because I replaced it due to a bulge in the side wall). If I knew that I’d have been paying for three tyres this years, I’d have swapped to PS4’s. When the rears need doing after the next pair, all four will need doing so I’ll make the swap then.

Was bored in a MS Teams meeting today, so thought that I'd tot up what the car has cost me other than buying it...

Half of the costs are me fiddling with it - it certainly adds up over time. eek

Insurance and VED are the next big chunk with actual maintenance not costing too much (will go up when I replace the rear tyres).
