Chris
hehe

I’m ignoring that one for now! Hey, it’s fun and I’ve enjoyed it so far so can’t /won’t complain. It’s fundamentally pretty cheap to actually run.

Agreed - looks like a great trip! I admire you doing it in that weather, especially in a white car laugh

Cheers both....I was glad that I washed it the morning we left! hehe

If I hadn’t booked the time off work, I think I would have chickened out. My car was pretty grotty when I got back but luckily I’m sad enough to quite enjoy cleaning cars so it was clean enough again. Pre-winter detail tomorrow if the weather is nice as forecast.

Still dying to decide what to do about tyres...

A pair of MPSS are £300 but have dubious wet / cold weather performance. I can buy a set of Good Year Asymmetric 5’s for £415 and ten get £80 of Amazon vouchers back plus I might be able to sell the two front tyres on eBay.

What about the PS4? They're going to go on mine at some point for that all-year-round performance as well as the alleged benefits with regards to comfort and noise.

I'm a really big fan of them too. I've got them on my 370Z and I've just put them on the fronts of my Cooper S. A great all round tyre I reckon. thumbup

The original plan was to swap to PS4’s next time around because all four tyres would need doing at the same time because I’m fundamentally too tight to bin tyres with over 5mm of tread.

A full set of PS4’s are £488 whereas the Asymmetric 5’s are £407 with an £80 Amazon voucher, so effectively £327 for all four so slightly more than a pair of rear MPSS’s. The Good Years seem to review pretty well.

That's a significant difference to be fair. Though if you can hang about for a voucher code (currently 10% but I've seen 20% a few times) on BlackCircles, you can get all 4 in PS4 flavour fitted for £390. Currently £445 as they've only got a 10% code up.

I went from MPSS to the Eagles. Similar thought process (IE all year tyres) and couldn't see past the price difference; having used the Eagle range in the past plumped for them. I've been really impressed with them, much better in the wet than the MPSS and nearly as good in the dry.

Thanks for that. Are you on 5’s?

I’m tempted at that kind of cash. The MPSS’s weren’t too bad last year but they’re far from ideal.

I am yes. I actually think that in terms of road feel and initial bite the Eagles are better than even the SS thanks to the firmer sidewall.

I used to run Goodyear Eagle F1(GSD2 and GSD3) years ago on my S14 200SX, and I was a big fan of them. Plus they had a lovely looking tread pattern as well. They are very good tyres for sure.

The weather was Ok today and we had nothing else on, so I nerded out and gave my car a pre-winter clean. A few swirl marks had crept in over the summer so the car got the following

Snowfoamed
Wash
Dry
Decontamination with a Car Pro Trix and Iron X
Washed again
Dried again
Clayed
Polished with Menzerna 2500 and Hex Logic green pad
Polished with Menzerna 3800 and Hec Logic white pad
Wiped down with G Techniq panel wipe
Two coats of Dodo Juice Supernatural
Glass cleaned
Tyres treated

Interior vac’d
Leather cleaned
Alcantara trim cleaned
Glass / screens cleaned

I’m bloody knackered! hehe Most of the swirls are gone, but there are a few deeper scratches that I’ll tackle in the spring when I have a bit more time.

It looks well though.

I love your attention to detail when you clean your cars. Hats off to you. thumbup

I've never even used the 2 bucket method to wash a car...nevermind the lengths you go too! biggrin

Cheers Lee.

To be honest I’ve found it a slippery slope ever since reading bits in detailing sections of other forums. It’s a a bit sad but I quite enjoy the process.

Apparently CostCo had a deal on PS4 recently, not sure if that's still on or not but worth a look. My Megane has PS4S' at the moment but I'll be changing for PS4 when the time comes as they're much better all weather tyre from my experience.

Hats off on the cleaning effort too – I bought a clay kit a couple of years ago but have still never used it!

I had intended to change all four tyres to Asymmetric 5’s but Blackcircles had a flash discount code on Michelin tyres which swung it back to the Pilot Super Sports. In all fairness they were largely fine last winter and brand new ones have proved to be fine so far.

I also ended up buying the full carbon interior, it’ll no doubt divide opinions but I like it and it matches the other bits. Was easy enough to fit, although the door handles were little buggers to remove.

Agreed, and seeing American Head Charge on the iDrive display gave me a nice wave of early-mid noughties nostalgia.

Cheers both.

I’d totally forgotten about that album but work up singing Just so you Know in my head today so added it to Amazon Music.
